Well of course! Oda may have said he wasn't going to have any romance between the Straw Hats once upon a time, but his works and the adaptations clearly say otherwise. It's obvious he's helping to build their chemistry for the end when Luffy accomplishes his true dream and he can focus on other things. The chemistry, me and boyfriend kept looking at each other like wow. The weight of Luffy’s words and how Nami instantly felt a bond with him even when she tried to push him away. If you want to view it as platonic that’s fine. But you can’t deny there is chemistry. People like shipping everyone but them together I wonder why. It’s rare to see a beautiful relationship that isn’t sexualize on the big screen and when the lack of sexual tension is felt people want to automatically call it sibling like. In a world where chastity is frowned upon, this is no surprise. There’s more to love than the sexual aspect. Love is about trust and sacrifice. You can’t force love, it either happens or it doesn’t. That’s why I don’t get when people ship Nami with Sanji or Luffy with Hancock. Because it feels forced. Sure they match outwardly (in terms of aesthetic) but when you analyze their relationship as a whole the definition of love become twisted and used for self-gratification.

I personally don't care that much about romance, especially not in the Straw Hats crew. But I do think that they have a great platonic chemistry and it's so heartwarming to watch, in both serious and silly scenes (for example, the one when they bet over the ship and the one where Luffy realizes he actually won the bet). Same goes for the actors in any interview or video I've seen so far. They really did a good job.

I know there's one ancient interview where Oda said there "probably wouldn't be romance in the crew" because he wouldn't depict romance at all since "OP is a manga for boys".But he clearly changed his mind since then because One piece did have romance in Whole Cake Island,and in Dressrosa. There's also Oda joking about the crew being in love with adventure in SBS 34. There is not a single statement from Oda saying that the crew is actually like a family. He once gave them familial roles to show what they would be if they were a family in an SBS, but I'm sure he doesn't actually think Sanji is Nami's brother, or that Franky is Chopper's pervy grandma lol. I've never thought of the crew as "like a family", they're a great group of friends and comrades and that's constantly reinforced by them calling each other "nakama". As for why people think that ship can happen,It's based on how Oda showed their bond in Strong World,a movie he wrote. I'm just gonna copy paste this from a thread I found: A villain kidnaps Nami for her navigational skills. Luffy is beaten by the villain. Nami to save him and the others has no choice but to follow the bad guy and leave a message to Luffy. In the message she says that he can never beat Shiki and that they would risk their lives unnecessarily .. towards the end, however, she whispers: "I'm sure you will come to save me anyway" An ending that Luffy doesn’t hear, and for that he gets angry with Nami. at the end of the film, when the crew talks about Nami's message, Sanji refers to it by saying "what his ears heard was a love message." curiously Nami shortly after says "I addressed those words especially to you Luffy"

I absolutely love them ❤️ Regardless of whether if they end together (in an unconventional way, taking into account their personalities) or not, no one can deny their strong, special bond. It makes me sad seeing people trying to gaslight others with the classic “they are siblings!”. Ok, some see them as such, Oda said this and that… but at the end of the day people don’t religiously follow the canon. It’s not mandatory. If people want to ship LuNami, let them be and and let them enjoy that bit of One Piece in their own terms instead of trying to impose things.

There’s a difference between that and “No, there won’t be romance”. He clearly left an open window. Also, He’s been too long in manga business to know that shounen readers are too dense, so he has to write romance in a way that it’s not obvious but at the same time it’s there so when Lunami is canon no one cannot complain about their development; 2)He says that he is not confident writing romance, and yet he wrote Tesoro and Stella, Tsuru and Kinemon, Señor Pink and Russian, Kyros and Scarlett, Roger and Rouge, Sai and Baby 5, Rayleigh and Shakuyaku, Hogback and Cindry, Sanji and Pudding, Kuma and Ginny… each one of those romances has different approaches and characteristics, but they are greatly written, and finally 3)Oda isn’t so stupid to spoil his own manga, that’s why he said those things years ago. People tend to infantilize Luffy, picturing him as naive and only interested in eating and adventure, and it shows that people doesn’t have reading comprehension at all. Luffy is very aware of his surroundings, he reads the room very well, and he is growing as the story progresses, that means at any point he will be a full adult with full agency. And when that happens, well… people will be surprised. In short, I’m not disappointed at all except at the attitude of people that frontally rejects well-written love stories just because they are immature, or the people that labels Luffy and Nami as siblings because of their own shipping agendas (SaNami and LuHan). The problem with shounen is the genre itself. The editors are constantly making Oda to change some details of his story, just to please the average reader, who is only interested in powerscaling and battles, while One Piece is more than that. Toei is also guilty that people ship SaNami, because most scenes that SaNami present as proof don’t exist in the manga. I think that after Egg Head, Oda will go more serious about Lunami, but in the meantime we have to wait and dodge the stupidity of some fans. Also, LuHan and SaNami shippers are *usually* (not all of them) immature people that 1)Can’t tell the difference between an actual romantic development and a gag, 2)Project themselves into the characters and only see the girls as a trophy, 3)Constantly compare the characters and the dynamics with other mangas when One Piece is not Naruto or Bleach. A lot of male LuHan fans are Hancock simps that cannot comprehend the significance of “agency” and “consent” (Luffy already rejected Hancock twice and he is the kind of guy that is firm in his decisions) and that desire for themselves a complacent, devoted maid as a partner, and a lot of male SaNami shippers see Nami as the prize to win but deep down hate her as a character. Also, the female SaNami shippers project themselves into Nami and have a distorted idea of Sanji’s romantic antics. It’s true that Nami hits Luffy, but it’s a gag and she isn’t the only one who does that. But at the end of the day, they share the most profound bond among the crew. Maybe Strong World is not canon (yet), but it is the blueprint for the final arc, mark my words.

Nami is the first person in his crew he trusted even she betrayed him. Nami sees Luffy as her Hero. Zoro and Nami are the most loyal crew if I think of. Even we say otherwise because of Nami's behavior, she would never betray Luffy whatever the cost. But to ship her with Luffy? Not bad. Nami really likes Luffy, but Luffy is still a Child. But between Boa and Nami, I prefer Nami. I still choose Nami for her compare to Vivi. But Luffy is still not mature enough to think of Personal Feelings.

I know there's one ancient interview where Oda said there "probably wouldn't be romance in the crew" because he wouldn't depict romance at all since "OP is a manga for boys".But he clearly changed his mind since then because One piece did have romance in Whole Cake Island,and in Dressrosa. There's also Oda joking about the crew being in love with adventure in SBS 34. There is not a single statement from Oda saying that the crew is actually like a family. He once gave them familial roles to show what they would be if they were a family in an SBS, but I'm sure he doesn't actually think Sanji is Nami's brother, or that Franky is Chopper's pervy grandma lol. I've never thought of the crew as "like a family", they're a great group of friends and comrades and that's constantly reinforced by them calling each other "nakama". As for why people think that ship can happen,It's based on how Oda showed their bond in Strong World,a movie he wrote. I'm just gonna copy paste this from a thread I found: A villain kidnaps Nami for her navigational skills. Luffy is beaten by the villain. Nami to save him and the others has no choice but to follow the bad guy and leave a message to Luffy. In the message she says that he can never beat Shiki and that they would risk their lives unnecessarily .. towards the end, however, she whispers: "I'm sure you will come to save me anyway" An ending that Luffy doesn’t hear, and for that he gets angry with Nami. at the end of the film, when the crew talks about Nami's message, Sanji refers to it by saying "what his ears heard was a love message." curiously Nami shortly after says "I addressed those words especially to you Luffy"
