i think this scene specifically hits hard in my opinion just because of how visceral nami’s desperation is… stabbing her arm without hesitation because she can’t stand the thought of arlong’s mark in her body, and even going as far as to beg luffy for help, which back then wasn’t like her at all, but at that point she recognizes she’s helpless in front of arlongs strength. also, man, the voice acting is top notch. i could close my eyes and it’d still be so hard-hitting because of the emotion in namis voice. i think the only other reaction so emotional and brutal we’ve seen is luffy after marineford.

This scene is just perfection. Everything in this arc leads perfectly to this moment, all of Nami's frustration and heartache, her pain and sorrow. The show really captured that absolutely encapsulating feeling of hopelessness and anger at your own inability to do anything in a situation you have tried so hard to fix. Culminating into Nami physically harming herself due to her frustration and hatred of herself. When she asks for help, it is full of complete and utter exhaustion on her part, which only makes it 1000% times more satisfying when Luffy says he'll help her, that she's not alone and doesn't have to bear all that pressure and weight by herself, that, of course, her friends will help her. This scene in the anime truly defined Luffy as a character as well as the fight that followed. I almost didnt get into One Piece because Luffy was so annoying to me. Hes loud, idiotic, selfish, always demanding, and completely out of the loop. But this made my jaw drop when I saw this. He knows all that about himself. He knows that hes a child both physically and mentally. He knows that he cannot be known for being super smart like Nami or as skilled as Sanji or Zoro. And he accepts that. He cant use a sword, he can't navigate, he can't shoot a slingshot or cannon, he cant cook. On his own, hes useless. All he can do is fight, and he will do a damn good job doing it too. Its amazing to see that he divides the crew to certain job titles despite them all being able to fight, because in the end they are his family. They help him with absolutely everything, so when the time comes that they're emotionally ruined and in need of a hand, he'll place that hat on their head and help them with their problems.

This scene. This scene is where the series goes from being a great series to my favourite fictional story to be created by humanity. The beauty of the emotions and the feelings that are displayed beat even the ones of Enies Lobby. I mean can you even see how it works without music to send in the feelings? José Lima boob size can be changed with surgery in the real world and a little bit more drawing in anime. the change in the character has taken hundreds of episodes worth of character development. In fact I kind of like the way she dresses and how she handles some of the reactions she gets from it because it shows how confident/proud she is in herself and her body.

I wanted to comment on this video due to all the "shipping" highly upvoted comments. I believe that you're not only missing the obvious point of this scene, but you are diminishing it with superficial things like romance. The Straw Hat represents Luffy's treasure. (We shouldn't even need that small flashback to know that, but it's in the manga too, so who am I to argue with Oda). It's the thing he holds most dear, his ambitions and dreams, his promise to a friend and to himself, to be the one truly free person in the world. Nami's treasure are the people of her village (at this point of the story). She sacrificed her own ambitions and wishes for them. She is at her lowest point as the realization that she cannot protect them dawns to her. This scene is the untold pact between Luffy and Nami: "I trust you with my treasure, please trust me with yours". Nothing more, nothing less. It is pure, raw, honest and straightforward (as every single thing Luffy does), and it's what making those tears of yours come up. Please, keep hearts and flowers out of the Greatest Story Ever Told.

We all know the point of this scene. We just think there is a extra subtle layer attached to it, and it's understandable because it comes down to the same point. Which is the high level of trust between Luffy and Nami that only they have. If anything, your explanation broke it even more down and gave the shippers even more hope. You commented all for naught. Because entrusting eachothers treasures, the things that they hold dear the most is not deep or meaningful at all.. Straightforward? not in the slightest. If it was, this scene wasn't going to be so emotional. You're missing an important point aswell. I don't even have to mention the effects of this pact later in the series. Lastly: We're not saying this is love, or that they are in love. We value their bond and trust and we see the potential of further development in it. That is all. That is our choice. The shipping won't stop so you better live with it. Nothing you can do about it.
@21kHzBANK21kHZ8 жыл бұрын
+May Carlin Hem exactly the point. And Jojo "you commented all for naught" get that weird ass Victorian shit out of here. All these things are meaningful but you're pooping on them with your dumbass romance shit. Romantic stories usually imply that there is no greater story told than romance and the highest peak of a relationship is romantic love. By attaching all your shallow single-minded trash to a great story, you disrespect it. In any case, the writer said there will be no romance, so now look who commented for "naught."

@AhsokaTano36BBY8 жыл бұрын
21kHzBANK21kHZ I'm not pooping on anything. You might have some shit in your eyes though since I never said this story was romance focused or heavily romance implied. You're assuming things like a dumbass. I'm well aware of the no romance statement and that was made way over 15 years ago. Or did you missed the part where he said he didn't want to add romance because it's a shounen manga targeted for young boys? Those boys are now parents themselves. (Do you know where I'm getting at with this? Or are you too stupid to make the connection?) OP is popular with people of all ages and both sexes. It is a definite fact that Oda changed and added things in the story with the years. Why are you so sure that Oda won't go with the usual shounen route which is a pairing at the end of the series? Whether there are hints of a romantic ending or not, it is just speculation. So don't act like mr. know it all, because you don't know it all. You too wasted your time trying to act like a smartass.

This whole scene, this moment, really is brilliance. Even without subtitles translating for you, you can perfectly tell what's happening through the animation, direction, and voice acting. @@yaduvarma9854 anime or manga is never going to translate 1 to 1 into a live action, i am just glad it is reasonably good

they did the LA really well, but wasn't as raw as how it was here. if they added the sand throw with the go away, oof mightve hit harder ngl

@@supreme_nova I believe it could have been better if the edits were not so rushed... 12 or 15 episodes instead of 9 would have given them enough time to set up and flush out key moments like Walk to Arlong Park...

This is why I grew to love Luffy so much more than Naruto. Naruto would have listen to each of their own background, gave his talk-no-jutsu about how he can relate because he knows oh so much about pain, blablabla... By not caring to know about their past, Luffy gives everyone a new chance at life. And more importantly he doesn't pretend to know or understand things he didn't go through.

i can relate. chouchou scene wasnt enough. so this scene made me realize luffy is better than naruto. luffy communicate so well with others without even showing a fraction of what talk no jutsu does.

Completely different situations, completely different reasons and outcomes. The fact that *you* brought up Naruto in the first place on a video about One Piece speaks volumes of how much Naruto resides in your head.
