My Briggs and Riley bags are still with me over 20 years after I bought them. One great thing is that they have no cardboard stiffeners. I had a bottle of shampoo explode in my Baseline checked bag. Called the company for help, was told "just put it in the shower!" can out clean as new.

I have had my Tumi carry on for 14 years, handle broke once and they replaced it at no cost. It has served me well and I travel 3 times a month.

I had two Samsonite polycarobonate cases (29"). Both cracked badly the first time I used them on a flight. I'm done with Samsonite.

I don’t blame you. I stay away from hard shell luggage as a rule unless it truly is legitimate carbon fiber, which let’s be honest, almost nobody makes or buys. The other alternative is specialty cases, but most business travelers don’t need something fully submersible, etc. Thanks for tuning in! Share the fun!

I have a question for you. When Briggs and Riley repaired your luggage for free, did you have to pay shipping fee to UK? Because there are no Briggs and Riley stores where I live. Thank you

It’s a long reply, but lots of good stuff in here. Min Choi, where are you located? I assume outside the UK? In my case I did not have to pay for shipping. I live in the Atlanta, GA 🇺🇸 area and there is an authorized repair facility in Roswell, GA (same metro area). They weren’t sure if they were going to perform the repair or ship it to Briggs & Riley US, but either way I wouldn’t pay for shipping (and I didn’t). If you go to this URL and scroll down to the map. Tick the filter for Repair Centers, but don’t use the search box (it doesn’t work). Use the map to find one closer to you. www.briggs-riley.com/pages/store-locator You should be able to find one that doesn’t require shipping to the UK. I’ve owned multiple Samsonite. Good value. Owned 4 Tumi’s and they are bulletproof. Will never buy anything else. Did have lifetime warranty until Samsonite bought them. I think it is 5 years now. They always fix mine for free.

Have you ever tried Rimowa cases? or any other aluminium cases? I can imagine they get dented and scratched very easily..

I have not, but I know others who have. The dents and scratches are part of the deal. They look at them like battle scars almost. In my opinion, you generally don’t get that luggage to keep it pristine. I’m not a fan of hard luggage because it’s difficult to fit in a car with other people’s luggage. There’s no “give” to it. With the handle sticking out you "feel" like you get more packing space. That may be if it is over 9 inches deep which most airlines only allow for 9 inches total depth including hardware. So maybe the bag depth itself is like 8.5 inches. And the handle is only 0.5 to give you that 9. It is more preferace and how you perceive the usable space. But you don't magically gain more space. Regardless of preferences, a great video.

I have never had an airline claim the outside handle on my Briggs and Riley made it ineligible for carry-on.

I had Samsonite wheel break on the first trip, i didn't even check it! Samsonite is a bad choice, they weren't cheap!

May be worth looking at the TravelPro Platinum Elite or the newer tougher Crew Expert Series. Well above Samsonite and nearer to B&R but half the price.
