Good comparisons between metal and plastic but nothing about payload vs. carrying capacity of the himmi rack.. also, prices of cheap vs. expensive boxes, there's a big difference. I wanted a cheap top box for my himmi but realized it can't support the weight/payload. Some riders said cheaper boxes have failed and fallen off on rough roads. I'm now leaning towards side panniers.. greater weight carrying capability down low.

Absolutely, just have it in a padded sleeve or in a laptop bag to prevent it from banging to the sides.

You would need to add a top rack that can support teh weight of a box. The stock system is too small to support the size of the top box plate
