Luigi grab outranges the sides of GnW up-b (which deal 3% and lead to nothing). It's not that bad.

IMO the thing about Luigi, and Luigi players, is that they tend to have extremely good neutral and make sure to maximize the rare times they get a hit. Either through a big combo or good edge play. Luigi’s ACTUAL neutral isn’t great (tho zair is amazing, not ZSS amazing but amazing), good Luigi’s tend to know where to stand to weave in to where they need to be. Luigi thrives on either scrambles where either a trade is good for him bc he can sometimes land another hit after, or simply how good Luigi is at converting spaghetti into a full meal. When the opponent is playing patient or equally as good in neutral while truly taking advantage of Luigi’s linear recovery (sometimes getting hit by a side b can be even better than hitting Luigi bc it stops Luigi w/o knocking Luigi up & giving chance for misfire), that is when it becomes obvious Luigi is actually a mid tier character. Everyone makes mistakes and that is Luigi’s saving grace, because on paper Luigi is not good beyond damage & zair. His fireball is bad, his normals are short & average to slow, his mobility is terrible(Byleth runs faster than him), recovery is bad, down b is incredibly punishable (and also bad for your hands), up b is awful except for a small 2F sweet spot, air dodge is average, side b can actually kill him, etc. However if the Luigi player is good he will out space opponent & if opponent makes a play error he can maximize where he is very good and make a 7-3 matchup into a 5-5. It’s part of why Steve & Kazuya are just better than Luigi, they have Luigi’s X Factor without the as many weak areas. Luigi isn’t good, but he is also very good because people aren’t perfect and a strong Luigi knows how to reveal that. Btw, side b misfire has a worse hurtbox than normal side b. If you are ready for it than it’s easier to clank or beat than the regular version. That’s why GnW easily beat it w/bair. Side b has same hitbox for normal/misfire, but the animation changes and it makes Luigi’s head hurtbox poke out past the hitbox during a misfire, kinda sucks.

it only kills at 55 on light characters, and its kill power is only active for one frame, is incredibly small, and you have to be grounded for max damage. kazuya has dlc bs so its not a very good comparison

⁠@@sagegang6957it’s an out of shield option only on poorly spaced attacks. To see how tightly the spacing is go to training mode and set GnW to 15% then do JUST jab 1, you’re now out of range for up b to hit and if you try it you are the 2nd most minus move in the game after Jiggly puff rest even on HIT. It’s one of the most risky moves in the game with a very very limited scope of strength where it’s good. Kazuya’s up b hits both sides, has horizontal mobility (a single dtilt 2 frame can be enough to kill Luigi at some %s) does same damage in air as on ground, and thanks to the ability to act out of the ending of the move is very safe. It’s overall a better move but there is one limited area Luigi’s is better. Also Kazuya’s electric doesn’t care about rage while there are %s that Luigi loses the ability to combo to up b. Up B is one of the best moves in the game in a singular area and arguably one of the worst moves in the game many other areas. It is just a better version of rest (rest’s only advantage being startup & invincibility but waaaay more unsafe, harder to land hitbox, and can’t be used out of sheild, tho technically a shield drop rest is 12 frames which is faster than Pyra’s up b out of shield.

It’s hard to tell for certain but I would assume rarukun doesn’t cyclone in disadvantage because they’re not as confident in their mashing. The few times they did it offstage they didn’t seem to get any height off of it at least, which does matter if you’re trying to recover or keep the opponent from falling out of it

I really like luigi, i just cant deal with terrible recoveries otherwise I would play him more. I love how you can essentially just mash aerials and do decent damage, its fun lol.

It’s very debatable but I think Elegant’s 3rd at MainStage 2021 is slightly better. Wins on Jake, Light, Chag, and Tweek with losses to Leo and Sparg0 who were #1 and #2 in the world. It’s hard to say for sure who’s better imo. Elegant had better neutral but a lackluster punish game relative to other luigi’s. Rarukun’s disadvantage state also seems worse than elegant’s but he was playing worse matchups against players with 2 more years of experience. TLDR it’s hard to say for sure and elegants gone anyways so who cares

@@kyallon1213 Rarukun's run has wins on Naetoru, Yoshidora, Snow, Doramigi and Asimo, with two losses to Miya. I'd say that the Doramigi, Naetoru, and Snow wins are comparable to how good the wins against Jake and Chag used to be(who both fell off a bit). The double Miya loss is comparable to the Sparg0 and Leo losses. However, the Asimo and Yoshidora wins aren't quite on the level of the Tweek and Light wins. So, overall, I agree with your assessment, Elegant's run at Mainstage was a bit more impressive.
