I am so glad you did not attack my dear white rice. That cooks the fastest than making chapatis all the time. Yes quantity is imp and eating regular Indian food. Sleeping on time, exercise & walks, not stressing out on inane matters, being grateful to God for His Providence & for loving people in our lives is so crucial to good health.

This video brought back fond memories of childhood. My dad used to bring loads of seasonal fruits, example a really bigg jackfruit, we all sat and opened it, and ate while cutting it. Never counted. Like this all local vegs and fruits brought in large quantities. He used to bring the bakery stuff occassionally once a month or so, we all munched happily to our hearts content without calorie count this or that. Mother a great cook, we were spoilt for choice be them deep fried or sweets all home made with ghee and fresh ingredients. We all used to be happy always. The weekly ritual of oil massage and head bath in old fashioned big brass/copper pots called handey water heated using fire wood. Played, studied, walked to school, lived with cousins and friends . My parents are very old, but healthy even today. These are only few of such great memories which brings a lot of smile and a hint of tears too. They are just memory. We can't give that life to our children even if we wish now. This was not village life. Yes. The secret of happiness and long life is simplicity, joy, being true to all sorts of emotions. No fake made up mask on the face. Miss those days a lot.

Thank you Luke for this sensible and much needed narrative!!! I am tired of my desi friends in the US saying Indian food is the culprit - I disagree. Any food can be the culprit if cooked unhealthily and over eaten.

Omg! Thank thank you for this video! This is what I keep telling my children. I have tried to alter my diet several times in the past year and end up feeling worse. When I go back to my punjabi diet, I feel so good. My children have been after me to go gluten free, diary free, etc. I tried it for one year. Finally i had to tell my children to stop advicing me. I am back to my normal diet, controlling my portions, eating at proper time and exercising and i feel so much healthier. And losing weight. Thank you🙏

I started listening to my mom and restarted eating chapathi which was my staple food. And I had not heard your video and my mom kept on telling me to eat what she used to feed me when I was a child. She used to say the same thing - that my body is trained for wheat!! And trust me once I restarted with chapathi, bloating went away n I lost 1kg in a week.

Hi Luke! Great video. One question though: my staple diet didn't make me sick at age 10-15, but did around age 20 let's say. That's when I tried to turn my whole diet around but now at 28 I'm still sick. So I'm just confused whether that staple diet was right for me or not. I would appreciate any input. Thank you!

Sometimes one could get the thought that the Food industry and Hospitals systems are facilitating each other. Hospitals are built like hotels these days and Food and Drugs industry have us hooked on as the only way to survive. how many would listen to this or they would wait until their Dr give the call.

Many like me seniors and certainly younger ones need Luke Coutinho’s diet and overall advice for healthy living . I have a reasonably healthy diet n life style. Quite disciplined . Yet I suffer from IBS and related issues for more than 20 years. Have given up all medication. Useless. But can many afford Luke Coutinho unless they are well heeled and with heavy bank balances? Retired Professionals etc can surely afford only watching the videos which are good but do not really solve health issues. However, they do give guidance and hope ! Is that enough ? Sadly I am American and literally grew up on ding dongs, Ho Ho's, cookies, cakes and soda. I don't rem ever getting fruits or vegetables expect when we visited my grandparents on occasion. I rem seeing plums at the grocery store and asking my mother if she would buy a plum for me and she said she couldn't afford it (that wasn't true) because we were well off. However, she did have enough money to buy 20 cartons of cigarettes. She and my dad were chain smokers. That was my childhood nutrition story.

What do you suggest for westerners raised on processed garbage that we try and call "food"? My entire family is morbidly obese, except me. I was raised on processed everything, sugary cereals, cheap Ramen, kool-aid and soda, etc. I decided to start eating healthier in my early 20s (I'm now 35) before I turned into my fat-family, and I'm very skinny today, and besides brain fog and fatigue, I'm extremely healthy. I can't even eat most processed food without terrible stomach pains. How would someone like me "reset"? And for context, I still eat cookies, processed meats, bread, some soda, some fast food, etc. I'm not a health nut drinking spinach smoothies or anything, but I still want to find what is healthy for me, and for my 10 year old.

A great lifestyle of sleep schedule, mindfulness, exercise, yoga, walking, taking early morning sunshine, mental wellness and so much more is required for a healthy life. Diet surely helps a lot, but it is not the only aspect to be looked at.
