You do realized that Tall Grass in Horizon is real grass right? They called "Red Fountain Grass". No one else allow to use it? Dinosaurs exists. Robotic Concept exists. And Power Rangers were one of the the first to make Robotic Animals, as well as Dinosaurs Robotics. Wouldn't you say Lara Croft & AC series & Alloy copy each other (depends on who came out first) because they are all Climbing Rock & Scaling Mountains! Also, just because Horizon did something before, doesn't mean anyone else couldn't do it. Also, many "Robotics" game are almost identical to Horizon except they don't have Robotics animal and in a different setting. And Dinosaurs Concepts in Horizon, I could almost say its inspire from Power Rangers who have Large Dino-robots in early era + Jurrasic park. In term of Mutant Powers or something like that... Chinese done "Telekinesis" long before America, flying, transforming into animals... Many of your favorite comic probably took inspiration from Chinese Literature as well... They just hate to admit it, that's all. Heck, even MCU things like Dr. Strange or Ancient One is an absolute copy-cat from Chinese Legends. Including their cloths. Avatar Series, The Last Air Benders, Korra.... all are CHINESE based!!! The entire series, culture, clothes are all Chinese! You think Star Wars & its Sabre is unique? The concept of how a Sabre is made might be slightly Unique but definitely not original. Aloy sexuality nor any other person sexuality was never discussed in Horizon series, nor there are pronouns or other stuff thrown down your throat there. It's a fine game, I enjoy playing it. There are a ton of Chinese knock off lighting fixtures used for theatre and concerts, and some of them are basically identical to the point that you can tell a lighting console that the Chinese fixture is actually the fixture it was copied from, and the console is able to control it exactly like the original as there is no functional difference.

I think it's UK law that has an interesting premise when it comes to stuff like this. It's called something to the effect of "An idiot in a hurry". A person goes into a convenience store looking to buy a Coke, and they see a red can with white text in a similar font. Damages are easy: its missed out licensing fees. The developer is the owner of the copyright. They have the sole discretion how the IP is used with the exception of fair use (which this isn't) . Also we could see trademark stuff here too, which is more applicable if copy right is a bit fuzzy but the product intentionally tries to confuse the consumer and Sony got their trademarks in order.

I'm a big fan of HZD. Ive played it multiple times. HFW too. Despite that I really dig this. I loved Horizon's art style and I'm happy to get more of it. Horizon games are just standard open world action adventure games and this is clearly doing something different by added survival mechanics. Palworld got me into the survival genre so if this is Palworld with a Horizon skin then I'm down. I said from the beginning that Horizon needed a multiplayer Monster Hunter-like spin off and this might be it.

Trade dress only protects the _distinct_ iconic appearance of a product, which is why so many games deliberately get the details of guns wrong to avoid being sued, but it doesn't protect the _concepts_ of a design; so while this clearly rips off Horizon's concept, as long as there isn't a 1:1 copy they can't be sued over the designs of their monsters. It's the same reason why Nintendo couldn't sue over the very-obviously-Pokemon-inspired monsters in Palworld, but are instead suing over patents for game mechanics.

There’s nothing Sony can sue over here. This kind of thing has been happening in movies for decades, as long as they aren’t using robot designs taken directly from Horizon they should be OK. But the question is: Why so closely take from Horizon aesthetically? They’re doing a Breath of the Wild knockoff with survival elements from the look of it, or at least building elements, and they take the post apocalyptic robot dinosaurs from Horizon...OK, I get that part. But why the tribal caveman look for the people, especially one that looks so similar to Horizon? I mean, Fallout is way bigger than Horizon. Seems like it wouldn’t been smart to only take the robo-dinosaurs bit from Horizon, and then take the pulpy post-apocalypse Mad Max aesthetic when it comes to things like what characters wear.

@@jbriggs06 I couldn’t say that Sony would win a lawsuit. But this is far beyond just two games sharing “robot dinosaurs”. Nobody owns robot dinosaurs, yeah, but a company cannot mislead a costumer to buy their products thinking they are a well established trademark/product that they already know. And this is pretty misleading.

The sprinting animation is like 99% the same as the animation from horizon. The only difference is the multiplayer aspect and survival

sony could solve their own problem but having a refund policy that wasn't so anti consumer "people will buy this thinking it's horizon and then we'll miss out on the sales" or hear me out, people could buy it go "oh wait this isn't the game i thought it was" refund it and then buy your game instead

What’s ironic is this might have potential to overshadow Horizon Zero Dawn for all the wrong reasons, mainly due to Sony’s insistence of mandatory PSN. If Sony doesn’t pull their bs soon, they’ll be overtaken by even copycats
