@@nomercy8989 They are creating gta 6 with all Rockstar big teams and since gta online takes less of a time than a new game it makes sense. It starts to make sense why gta definitive edition was a thing and why they "seemed to care only for online". Those remasters probably were planned just to release something, and grove street games screwed it up, so they probably had to fix them which made problems for gta 6 development, and all of the remasters were cancelled because of that. It could delay gta 6 even more if they screw up again.

Games are almost too open in some ways these days. I'm playing the remake of mafia 1 right now and actually really like how it's open but a linear story. There's nothing wrong with things being linear (if the writing is up to par). However, I do love having actual impactful choices you can make when things are more linear. The open world trope with games has got a little stale imho. Not to say I dislike it or anything.
@HieronymousLex

@@John-mf6kysuper agree, and it’s rare to find others who feel the same. Games are becoming homogenized and a large open world is part of the formula. Open worlds feel so much less dense because they are by practical constraints

I personally find the 5 year 'era' of Bully - GTA IV - RDR - L.A. Noire (2006-2011), the golden age for Rockstar games. These games were each so original and pioneering in the open-world genre in massively different ways, it really displayed a willingness to innovate and experiment. But to be fair, I look back at that time period in general to be a very fun and optimistic period for gaming.

People seem to forget the real masters behind L.A. Noire, Team Bondi. Rockstar actually had nothing to do with the development of L.A. Noire, they only published it and took all the credit, even on the covers and box art. The only time when Team Bondi is clearly stated is in the opening credits and when you load the game and see the legal terms and logos in a 1940s style cinematic. Since Rockstar games only published it meant Team Bondi outright owned it. Even after Team Bondi closed, the rights are still with Brendan McNamara so Rockstar could never make a sequel. And before anybody mentions the VR version, McNamara and his new company made that.

This is one of those games where what it got right it REALLY got right and still holds up beautifully today, and what it got wrong was obvious back then and glaring today. The story and atmosphere still give me chills, but I rarely play it because I know the plot/clues/questions inside out and the open world is really quite boring... plus the cars and traffic AI kinda suck. These days if I want to revisit it I'll usually just put on a walkthrough video and watch it like I would a TV episode, and if you've read this far then you probably aren't surprised to hear it works insanely well that way. What an amazing and confounding game.

Atleast it tried to do SOMETHING with the social aspects/conversations in a game. Sure we often get good writing but zero innovation in how dialouges work or doing something special with them. LA Noire has this system, the 2 latest Deus Ex has these social "boss" - battles and alpha protocal has an excellent continous flow as examples. None has been replicated but the basic dialouge-choice wheel where you just exhaust options still persists

I started it and was enjoying it for the most part, but one of the KZbinrs I watched back then ruined the ending for me. Total bad form, no spoiler warning, nothing. Took the fun out of playing it. I was low-key mad at that guy for about half a year. Maybe some day I'll revisit it because it didn't seem like a game that took too much time to complete, but man did that suck. I always hoped they would take the tech and use it in GTA or other games in the same way, even if just in limited fashion. Like Lamar saying to Franklin in GTA V "Do I look like I'm lying?" and the prompts coming up all as "DOUBT" would have been a great callback, lol. Maybe we'll see something like that in VI.

If Rockstar want to do a proper remaster, they'll need to remake the face model to modern standard and map the capture performance to a fully rigged face instead of just projecting. That plus new full body motion capture to replace existing animation. Another thing to add is activities to the open world. Let you take time off between cases to explore and do stuff. Go to jazz bar, play games, watch public domain movies, and flesh out Cole's domestic life. Also add in an Assassin's Creed style education tour.

My biggest gripe with this game is that there isn’t enough to do outside of the cases. If we got more to do with Phelps it would have given us a chance to connect more with the him. However, the cases and stories involved were great except the clues and choices that felt arbitrary.

Blame the game director he would scream and insult every developer making everyone quit, they didn't have an animator for long periods of time, this game coming out was a miracle

I’m surprised you were even able to get the game to launch. I bought it on steam and literally had to change game files and download mods to get it running properly.

I think this game looks awesome and the acting is one of the best ever in a video game. You're not playing the remastered version either. It looks great on series x

such a unique game with so much more potential. You Should do Maxpayne 3 next. Also other Rockstar games like the warriers Manhunt and Bully.

Even when It came out some parts of it was meh. City felt empty (but beautiful nevertheless, shooting and driving wasnt good, and finding for clues turned into pixel hunting in later parts of the game. Still. ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER. And an unltimate videogame neo-noir experience.

It's funny that you say it's kinda hand holdy, because that's literally a Rockstar game in an nutshell for story missions. They will never allow player creativity or freedom.

Just playing this again for the first time since it came out. I feel when I was much younger I didn’t quite get it and was god awful at the interrogations but this go around I’m having an absolute ball. Such a fun premise and just overall a ballsy game for rockstar to develop. Way ahead of its time and I wish there were more defective games like it.

I miss when Rockstar used to make different types of games like rdr1, bully, la noire, manhunt, max payne 3 instead of just milking gta online for all its worth.

I recently went back to play it because of the investigation/ interrogations. It wasn’t as good as I remembered. I really wish the interrogations had more freedom instead of an ask this with this in this order or else fail. Liked the concept but not the execution.

I would love a LA Noire 2 or remastering with more exploration of the old LA with more building interiors, better facial expressions, and maybe some new cases.

Something in the 60s to 70s would be cool. I love exploring bygone eras in games. Rockstar knows how to build a world too. I want a grimey 70s NYC (think Taxi Driver 1973). It would he cool if you could choose to lean into a straight and narrow cop vs a dirty corrupt cop too. I am saying this as someone who's never played LA Noire tho. I was just curious how well its held up to time, ive been wanting to play it.

I revisit the game from time to time, because I love noir and I love L.A. It would be amazing to see a remaster with updated tech. But that would probably mean they'd have to pull all the actors back in and reshoot.

This game was ok. Starts off great but quickly gets repetitive. It’s been 11 years since I played it but I do remember it having major flaws. The graphics were amazing though. Every game that was just decent or not well received always gets the retrospective “I was wrong review” a decade later

Okay so luke this isn't really gonna help you but maybe someone else. To get above 60 fps, you have to go into settings and change your resolution and graphics, go into the game, then go back to what you want ie 1920x1080 on ultra , and it'll run smooth.

Studios do still use the tech involved to scan and place faces in games tho, you can see it in some games like rdr2 or tlou2 and other high profile releases today. But it's a lot more efficient now where use a total scan and then also use head rigs that record facial movements during full motion capture performances at the same time rather than doing the va and facial capture and full motion capture separately. It's still advancing as a tech and has been sized down over time to make it work better for ease of production. They use this a lot in movies today too like in marvel stuff or like what they did with avatar.
