Granting that thought precedes language, it does not follow that language naturally developed “for” thought. If A precedes B, it does not follow that B was developed for A.

@@nbezbradica Lighten up. The claim, "language was created for x" is not really falsifiable. Applying logic to it doesn't help. Chomsky's claim was a sweeping conceptual generalization that only a life-long academic of his ilk can make; permit the speculation quietly and consider it a flexibility that we, the discerning listener, grants to him tentatively, only because we know that he's dedicated an obscene amount of thought to the subject. If we're being strict, ALL fruits & structures resultant of natural selection have no _meaningful_ purpose, beyond survival. It's just a chicken-egg problem.
@leftfootforward4104 ай бұрын
@@nbezbradica the function of something is usually defined in biological terms as the phenomena's most common characteristic use. Given that most, almost all, of the characteristic use of language is not for communication and is, instead, used in the head for musing, pondering, thinking, dwelling, talking to oneself and other thinking processes it is clear language is only partially used for communication. Only a small fraction of it is ever expressed. The expressed portion is also simultaneously tied to thoughts in the head, conscious and unconscious. Secondly, one can communicate with walking, clothes choice, dance, facial expressions, and so on, without ever verbalizing anything.

He has always had a tyrannical, callous side which found full bloom during project Covid-19. His position on 9-11 should have alerted more people to his gatekeeper role decades ago.

Vijay total respect. The Plain of Jars is in Laos, as you know the most heavily bombed country. Thankyou, you are absolutely on point in highlighting Noam's huge contribution. I struggle to say legacy right now

I am sad to hear this. I pray he will find healing peace. He is such an exceptional human being on par with Mandela and Gandhi.
