I've always had troubles with menstrual cups since I've got a really hight cervix. At some point I got the hang of putting them in, even though I always had to sort of "help" them pop open. Getting them out was horrendous. Every morning and evening I had to squat down, reach in, hold it and push to even get close to a position where I could break its seal and remove it. Through your TikTok I discovered the Lumma high and I've been in love ever since. It's just SO easy to insert and remove for me and I never had any problems with leaks. The fact that I can just pull the string and get it out without any pushing, wiggling or pain is just so relieving as well. So, for anyone with a high cervix who's had problems with cups before: PLEASE give this a shot.

I followed her directions & practiced at the end of my period for like 2 months and so when I was comfortable enough I used the Soft cup & I couldn’t get it out (or so I thought) & freaked out & eventually got it out but it was extremely scary! Well it’s been about 4 months & I want to try a disk now and thanks for sharing your story bc it looks like we went through the same thing (My cervix was very high at the beginning of my period).

I've been a 7-year cup user but I recently found my cup failing me with leaks (esp when I wanted a good night of sleep while on period.) I started trying out the Lumma (M & S) and the first cycle was a struggle to insert it correctly. I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it now (2nd cycle) but I want to say thank you so much for putting out these videos that focus on discs. I find them very helpful in my period journey (e.g. how to deal with them effectively). I'm fascinated at the no leaks for >10 hours - that has literally never happened while I used a cup, I'm so excited! I hope discs will continue to work for me!!

I discovered your channel after having tried to switch from pads to a cup twice unsuccessfully. I discovered that my problem was that my cervix gets so short during my period that cups can't get proper suction, and the bottom sticks out a little. I learned that's also why tampons feel uncomfortable when I wear them. So I took your quiz and this disc was recommended to me and I am impressed! I bought the short version (obviously). Insertion and removal is so easy, and I'm having no leaks! Thank you for the work that you are doing.

I never heard of a menstrual disc until I came across one of your videos. I’ve always thought about using a cup, but never got myself to try because I didn’t want to commit to buying one without knowing it it’s right for me. I also wasn’t sure if I would enjoy the suction part. I bought disposable discs to try it out before buying a reusable one. Luckily, they fit me almost perfectly. While that was great, the fact that I was able to wear it for almost 11 hours with NO LEAKS was absolutely life changing. I usually would change a super plus tampon every 3 hours because I would leak, and also I get nervous wearing tampons thanks to TSS. I decided to buy a high and medium size Lumma disc. I just tried it out a few days ago and I am still in love with how the disc compares to a tampon. If you are on the fence about getting a Lumma disc, or a disc in general, I say go for it!!!
@PeriodNirvana

@@WickedLepz So I have been using this for 7 months now and I would never go back to using tampons. When it auto dumps, it seems like the disc is leaking when you wipe. Don’t worry though, it’s just because it auto dumped so you shouldn’t have to worry! While I can go almost 12 hours without taking it out and cleaning it, I do it more frequently if I am able to. I will say, my first day is always the worst. I like to clean it more frequently that day just because it makes me feel a little better. But it is nowhere near as often as a tampon!

I feel like it’s just staying bunched up inside me because when I remove it, there isn’t much blood in there and it leaks, not horrible but it does leak. I find it very comfortable and have experienced less cramping so I really want this to work out.

Ofcourse discs are ideal for many people but for me it gives mental satisfaction that my cups are more reliable due to suction. Most important thing for me is having that control that my cup will empty only when I want it to and mentally prepared for it to. The whole concept of jabbing the disk above the public bone scares me that I might scratch my insides (although my nails are super short). But obviously discs are great option for many people who hate suction and the more reusable options the better. It's amazing how far we've come. As a teen I felt so bad using plastic pads coming from a conservative country like India where we are only taught to use pads. Reusables are the future.

I tried just pinching the rim and inserting it just like that, but i felt like the cup is so deep I have to fold that too. So normally i will fold the "bowl" to the right or left first, once that's folded then I also pinch the rim to insert as shown. The bowl usually doesn't unfold all the way once inside, but it unfolds quite a bit and works still and holds a lot! Super reliable. I do have to say this was the first reusable disk that's has worked for me for about a year, then i switched to Kims Hello Disk. And I love that one too. The tab was a bit tricky for me at first but i figured it our and I love it otherwise! I love both of these disks. I swap back and forth. I'm so glad i found this channel. I am unable to use tampons any longer... One day My body decided they were not gunna work together anymore so I had to find another solution quick and pads weren't going to be a setback goal for me. So I am happy I discovered the discs! Game changer!!!

Just purchased lumma and I’m so happy with it. I tried the disposable flex disc which I loved except I couldn’t get the darn thing out…it was so high up I couldn’t “hook it” to bring it out. Last month I purchased the reusable flex disc which I loved but again I couldn’t reach it and would take 20-30 minutes getting it out …few times I gave up and tried again later. One time I even thought “OMG I’m going to have to go to the doctor to get it out”. So…enter Lumma high with the stem. Easy to insert… and I don’t feel it and I’ve had no leaks since I first started using it. And removal is so easy, I gently tug the stem and out it comes. Very easy. I’m Very happy with Lumma and …I don’t think I’ll use the flex disc again just because of how hard it was for me to remove it.

I'm so interestend in discs. I have already invested in a few cups, trying to find my goldilocks one, and I really don't feel like spending even more money in a (expensive) disc at the moment. But in the future I'll definitely try them out and the Lumma L might be a good candidate for my high cervix! (I just wanted to point out something. Everyone seems to take for granted that removing a cup is going to be mess-free, but it's not always the case. Removing my cup is especially messy: pinching the bottom doesn't work at all, in order to effectively break the seal and remove the cup comfortably I need to refold the cup, which is usually full, to a C-shape and blood goes everywhere. It's not a problem, as I do everything sitting on my toilet with a sink right next to me, but yeah, discs aren't the only ones causing the blood drawer ;D)
@minisevenyt.
@minisevenyt. 3 жыл бұрын
I thought I was the only one who couldn't break the seal by pinching the base! Like, everyone says they do that and the suction just puff, but mine is still there even when I literally squeeze and twist the cup😂 that's why I'm trying to understand if a disc could be more for me... I'll see in the future, as I already bought two cups and spent 40€ 😂 but really I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to have that specific problem. At some point I felt there was something wrong with me 😂

@@eldasala9695 I know right?! We have so much less options (especially in Italy where I live)! Same for period underwear (which I started to use during quarantine and they're amazing). Actually I discovered that a loooot of menstruating people do have problems with suction ecc (suction is just one of the many I have, if I'm being honest 😂) but idk why only successful cup users get to talk about their experience 😂 I mean I'm happy for them obviously but I'd like seeing more people feeling confident in sharing their less enthusiastic experience too! @@minisevenyt. I live in Italy, too! (I'll stick to English just in case someone else agrees with us on the matter). I also am experiencing a few issues with my cup... nothing major, tbh, but still a pain in the butt. Everyone seems to think that if you're having problems with cups, it's because you haven't tried certain tips and tricks, even when you clearly state that yes, you already tried them, and no, they didn't work out. Plus, I was sorely let down by period quizzes, they all pointed me to completely unfitting products. I can't keep buying new options to try out, so I'm settling for a Lunette with cloth pads as backup, but I'm very interested in replacing them with period underwear. What brand do you use? And would you say they're absorbant enough? I've always had a heavy flow, but cups make it brutally heavier, so either I empty my cup every couple of hourse or so, or I need to use heavy duty backup.

@@eldasala9695 uh, KZbin thought it'd be funny not to send me any notifications 😂 For my heavier nights I use two pairs of underwear of a German brand, called Femtis. Their price is quite average (28€ each, but there are cheaper options) and I didn't even have to pay any shipping fees. They hold *a lot*, sometimes I put them on midnight and the following morning I sleep in till 11 A.M without worrying about leaks. Pads don't allow that 😂 I've never slept so peacefully in 12 years while menstruating (I've always had some troubles at night cause, you know, the risk of recreating a murder scene on the bed is pretty high if you aren't careful about how you sleep 😂). During the day I use some cheap period pants that I found on Aliexpress (5 in cotton and 3 in bamboo fiber). I bought them to make a comparison with the expensive ones and even if there is an actual difference... they work great too. They're the perfect compromise if you want to get started with period panties but don't want to spend a crazy amount of money at first. Overall I think I'll definitely stick to them (even if I still use 3-4 organic tampons a month because sometimes I find them more convenient in terms of practicability). Easy to wash, fast to dry (Femtis ones do take a while but as I said I use them only at night so there are, like, two days between each use and they're enough lol), comfy, quite durable (if you follow the instructions they'll last as much as a cup, maybe even longer) and reliable. I've never leaked once - though I have a medium flow, sometimes heavy (in my teen years it was definitely heavier). For me it was the best investment ever! I know other brands that I'd like to try out at some point: modibodi, wuka, flux... The first one is quite popular and has a loooooot of options, in terms of sizes, styles, colours and how much a pair can hold (there are pants that are designed to be worn 24 hours!!! It blows my mind every time I think about it. If you have a reaaally heavy flow they could be your perfect match)

Hi Kim. First I want to say that I really like your channel. :) It’s very informative and helpful. I have two Lummas (and love them), ordered from different websites. One came with the little bag (which I understand is due to the new branding) and the other one is the original version which came with the silicone case. I actually like the case and was wondering whether they have changed this, are there disadvantages of storing the disc in such a case (I know that they generally don’t recommend storing silicone sex toys in the same place because silicone-to-silicone may lead to a chemical reaction that damages the material). Do you have any idea? Sorry if I missed it. Another question: I used to clean my cups once in while with peroxide 3% or soda, or with a special cleanser for menstrual cups. I’m a bit afraid to do this with the Lumma because the material is so thin, some spots are almost kinda transparant. Do you think that it could damage the disc? * Edit nevermind: I’ll probably find the answer to the last question in one of your other videos. 🙈 Thanks a lot for your amazing work!

Is there any difference in feel or slippage/grippiness between the clear silicone and the marbled silicone? The clear looks like the same clear silicone in the femmy cycle cup, which I found very slipery to insert as apposed to the "clearish" silicone of the diva cup which I felt was more "skin texture" by comparison. wow! I'm from Brazil and I didn't know Lumma was from Brazil! I've seen its website but I just thought it was from abroad that sold in Brazil! hahaha I was between getting a Lumma cup or Korui as my first product, but ended up with Korui because of the material and the size seemed very small from Lumma and I was not sure if it would be better getting a 36mm diameter would be too small and would leak, or if it would be the nice, and the capacity is much smaller... Considering getting a Lumma disc if I ever get one (because of sizing options and they have s bundle of their 3 sizes for you to try) but gotta get used to putting products up there first...

First, I would say make sure you have it pushed up all the way above your pubic bone. If you don’t have it tucked above the bone properly, it will leak. If you do have it inserted properly, it could be the wrong size. My cousin was experiencing leaks so she moved up a size and no more leaks. Hope this helps!

The lumma disc has soft membrane inside so when it was placed, will it pop all the way it should or it will bend/change their shape inside? The more firm of the body of disc the more easy to pop up?

I've tried the Lumma S, M and the Nixit. They all autodump when I don't want them to. Just standing up or bending down and it gushes blood. Could it be that I'm not pushing the rim up high enough at my pubic bone? I do push the disc in as far as I can. Do you use a lube or something else to assist in insertion? The Nixit is less smooth to put in than the Lumma in my experience. Thank you for all you do informing us about cups and discs!
@PeriodNirvana
@PeriodNirvana 3 жыл бұрын
The Nixit being less firm (IMO) makes it harder to insert. A lubricant might help with that. If the disc isn't propped in well and high enough that could be a possible explanation for the auto dumping. Usually it's due to the cup being too small or too large but if all the sizes did it...

Yes, it's not like a menstrual cup that uses suction to stay up. You can grab it by the rim and pull down or if it has the string, you can pull it down with the string. Because they don't use suction, it slides out super easy without having to bear down.

There is already blood in your vagina when you insert the cup - either leftover from when you removed it or from your period starting. Blood kind of collects in that little open area in front of your cervix. It’s not enough to “leak,” but it’s enough to show on the cup. And then blood leaks out as soon as you pull on the rim. Surface tension will make it “stick” to the bottom surface of the cup. Does that make sense? Imagine a cup of oil or syrup, if you tip it until it starts pouring, some will pour down the sides and stick. No problem at all - just physics ❤️

I tried using the intimina compact cup and while it is soft it is a bit too long for my low cervix. I had two vaginal birts with big babies. Hi Kim! Kinda a weird question, but i have a vaginal septum, which is a wall that separates my vagina into two (I also have two cervixes and uteri). Bc of this I have to use two tampons (i.e. twice the cost), so I was wondering if you think it would be possible to wear two disks, two cups, or maybe one of each? The septum is very thin and flexible, so I think it would be similar to putting two in side by side in a normal vagina.. Love your channel btw!

I think it could be possible (in my mind) by using two teen or very small starter cups with smaller diameters. Discs... I'm not sure but the smallest disc, Lumma Short, would be my go-to if deciding to try it. A few tiny cup options would be the Organicup Mini, BFree, Saalt Teen, Claripharm Mini, Diva Cup (if your cervixes are high). The Nudie cup in the Small (from europe) is super soft and that to me sounds like a good one because of the squishiness. On thecupchart.com you can sort but diameter for more options! If you decide to try please let me know, you aren't the first to reach out about this so it would be great to hear if it worked out for future inquires!

If you have any friends in the US you could ship to them and have them ship to you as a gift perhaps? Lumma isn't registered with Health Canada so they stopped selling there several months ago. I do this sitting on the toilet or squatting. Once it’s half way in I use my thumb and slide it inside the disc to the back rim that’s inserted. I use my thumb to angle the rim around my cervix. Then I remove my thumb and gently push the cup in the rest of the way by pinching the protruding rim and pushing it in and tucking behind the Pubic bone. I find this helps. So you could use your thumb or finger to angel the rim and push it whatever Way is needed. Just use some coconut oil or water based lube and relax while inserting if it hurts. Hope this helps.

Ziggy does seem to be a bit big for many of the people who try it, myself included. I use the Lumma High and Nixit most often, but also got on well with the Lumma Medium and Cora perfectly fine. Thank you for this! Can anyone who does have an IUD tell me about your experience with the lumma or other discs? I've been using a cup with my IUD for a while and it works just fine, the suction is not an issue, I just always make sure the IUD string is within the cup/doesn't get stuck between the cup and the canal, and that I don't grip the string while breaking the seal/removing. However I am super interested in discs. So, if you tried discs with an IUD, was there any issue with accidentally grabbing the IUD string or with the string getting stuck in a way you don't want it?
@PeriodNirvana

@PeriodNirvana

If anything Lumma and other discs would be less likely to cause any cramping because they are suction free and because of where they sit in the body. Cups can occasionally, if very firm, cause outward pressure (not cramps) or cause cramps if the cup suctions to the cervix.

However I decided to order the Lumma disc because of problems with the cup opening inside of me and the benefits of mess-free sex. So my question is: What is the difference between the disc and a diaphragm and can it be used the opposite way? I mean, I don't really understand the difference between them. I am taking pills for birth control and I would like to use the disc for some extra protection on the days when I am not bleeding too. Is it possible or do I have to buy a diaphragm too?
@PeriodNirvana
@PeriodNirvana 3 жыл бұрын
A diaphragm is fitted by a medical professional and you're also meant to use one with spermicide. Menstrual discs aren't professionally fitted therefore they likely aren't going to be enough protection so it's best not to risk it. You can ask your care provider about a diaphragm. Those can be used for periods, but period discs can't be used for birth control. Hope that helps!

It keeps leaking. The things I noticed when I took it out was: - scenario 1: it wasn't collecting on the bowl part of the disc. Instead, the blood slides to the bottom side of the disc. - scenario 2: it collects some blood, but since the base gets scrunched up inside to much, it already leaks within 2 hours. Do you have any advice that you can recommend for me? I'm personally thinking of buying a medium size instead because I think my cervix got higher, but there might be a troubleshoot for this since I'm really trying to not spend anymore.
