I guess he was worried about leaving the surface gauge in the shot for one frame before CAV laserdiscs showed that Harryhausen and Willis O’Brien both left surface gauges, support rods and probably other items in a shot for a single frame and it was undetectable by the human eye when projected at 24 fps. Still, I admire his dedication. I remember reading about this film in the pages of Cinefantastique magazine in the early 90s.

Some great workarounds here! Clever chap.🏆 The 'move the street not the camera' trick is something I have just done with a sewer scene. I cut the pipe in half along its length and ran it on a six-foot track past the camera, and placed my walking hero between the two. 🤫🐁🐁🐁
