This was a very useful start on how to weld bronze sculptures. The human figures I'm making need to be cast in parts and welded together, so this is helpful start on how to do this.

Very good, man. Luckily no shrinking happened. That can be avoided by uring a big riser which can feed back bronze while cooling down.

I really enjoy your channel and have learned a lot. I can relate to when you said sometimes the price of experience is failure. I am a Bladesmith and want to include some casting in my work, pommels, guards, etc. I have one suggestion for you, get a Foredem tool, it will give you MUCH more control than a Dremel. It has a foot control to control the RPM's and has full torque even at very low RPM's, and a flex shaft and handpiece, great for working on small details. It is costly but should last you for your lifetime. As much as I see you use a Dremel, it would be a wise investment.

Looks really great! About the middle core on thicker pieces, wouldn’t it be possible to use the “vase-method”, pouring in the metal, wait for a minute, and pour out the remaining hot metal?

I just started working with bronze and after my first cast, I'm a bit bummed at how dirty my casting turned out. I'm wondering if you did anything special to the melt in order for your cast to come out so clean. I sandcast instead of investment casting and I assumed it was my copper/tin mix wasn't pure enough.

Scrap metal can be tricky because you aren’t really sure what the alloy is. If it’s copper wire , or pipe though it should be pure. I use silicon bronze for the best castings. I buy it in 15lb bars from Lancaster foundry in Pennsylvania. It’s like 6-7$ a lb. Sometimes you just need to use clean metal to start. I’ve had some metal that just doesn’t cast well and I had to start over with better metal.

You are such an inspiration. I know that I just cant sculpt in wax. I try to use a sculpt software and just print out the patterns and use lost pla method with suspenda slurry fs. I was just thinking what bronze composition do you use.

I’ve been thinking about getting a 3D printer for lost pla but I I’m kind of old fashioned. For things like this I use everdur silicon bronze.

You have much patience. Keep up the good work. I to love the impala. it looks like you conquered the leg and balance. Most Remington and Russell bronzes have another form of keeping all together. A rock or anyway to keep it strong. I have a Remington bronze called Buffalo Horse which is anchored by the horse the buffalo's back hooves and the spear. The bronze you made is only anchored by the back hove. Do you think that it my give if dropped or handled poorly. Love your art. Keep it up . Kevin

Very nice. Epic progress. What is total cost of such casting? Wax, plaster, metal etc.?

Hard to say the total cost. The metal itself is probably $15 worth. The investment powder probably $10 worth. But the welder was over $1,000 the kiln $300 The work space. Sculpting it took over a week molding it several days and several days cleaning up the casting the was edited out. When you factor in all that, it’s hard to say the cost of making it is. It would take an awful lot of these to break even and a lot more to turn a profit.

You need a kiln of some kind. Could be an electric kiln or a wood burning kiln or gas fired kiln. But yes you need a kiln.
