Here is what Aurora said about "Infections Of A Different Kind": "On track eight you say ‘Be god in the shape of a girl’ - what does that line mean to you?" "I was at an airport, it was late, I was alone and my plane was the last one to leave. It was the year before I wrote the song, so 2016, which was a hard year for me because it was quite busy and I was sick all the time - I was in the hospital many many times. So yeah, at the airport… I was on my way home again, I felt a bit out of place, out of my own body, and then I looked at this family. I saw two very tired parents, and then this little girl - she was maybe 3 years old - and she seemed to give them so much joy, even though they were very tired. And she gave me a lot of joy. And then I saw an old couple, leaning over to look at the little girl who was smiling back at them. She seemed to interact with almost everyone at the gate, and make everyone happy. Without even knowing it. And I loved the way happiness and love can be so… simple? Don’t underestimate the power of a child. It was just very magical to see how much it affected everyone and everything. If I was to choose a religion, I would love it if god would be something that you can touch. Something like a little girl, on this earth, and not something that is far away or judges from above, you know?"

I see "It happened quiet," as a story about the death of a woman, pushed through an upstairs window by her lover in a moment of jealous rage. Just like "murder song," it's told from the point of view of the dead woman, like her ghost is giving testemony. Through the first verse I picture a cinematic, super slow motion shot from above as she falls backwards towards the ground outside the window. Her eyes, "blue and hollow" and feathers "falling out of a pillow," floating in the air. "is the earth coloured red, as I land like a flower on the meadow. Love is wild." "Don't you speak over my voice, I will return from the shadows, and I'll bleed in your bed, turn it red, like the ground outside your window. Love is wild."

Aurora uses nature and words synonymous with it as metaphors for other topics in her lyrics. The songs aren't always having nature as the center meaning.. The song 'it happened quiet' is most agreed on being about an abusive relationship turning into a crime of passion. Aurora is a story teller and many of her songs aren't necessarily about her. In this one she's the victim of the crime, falling out the window where she was pushed and how everything was quiet and in slow motion as she fell to her death, "is the earth colored red? As I land". The "silent call" is it her scream? Is it theirs? Then after this her ghost comes back to haunt her killer, "i will return from the shadows, and I'll bleed in your bed, turn it red, like the ground outside your window" Aurora ends with "love is wild" bc love while is beautiful, it can also make people do abhorrent acts in its name.

You’ve quickly become one of my favorite reactors! I absolutely love the way you analyze the lyrics, but also the way you let music speak to you! I can tell that your throughly enjoyed listening to this album, and trust me, Step 2 does not disappoint! AURORA said that step 1 focuses more on the inner part of humans, while step 2 focuses more on the outside of humans. You’ll see how they’re very similar, but yet very different;) AURORA is the only artist that has ever made me cry. When I listen to her music, I feel like I’m either connected to a past life or to my very own soul. She makes music bigger than herself, and it touches me so much. Thank you for this, I cried with you on many occasions hehe💛

I guess something to note too is that Aurora is not often talking from her own point of view. I *think* I remember reading this or from an interview, but my memory is shit. A lot of her music is other people's stories. Hmm what else can I say-- I guess I don't often truly understand the meaning of these songs either because they're kind of heavy, but I love Churchyard the most as an anthem for someone claiming their power back after an abusive situation. And in It Happened Quiet, it almost seems like it's leading up to that when she sings "Don't you speak over my voice, I will return from the shadows". And also singing how love is wild, it seems to be about how a person can mistake abuse for love when it's all they know. Anywhomst, thanks for the reaction. Glad you loved it. Step 2 is beautiful and inspiring. And you've chosen the perfect time to get into Aurora because she's in the midst of a new era's beginning. She just released a song yesterday called Cure For Me that is just as amazing as anything she's done and yet somehow completely different from your expectations of how you think her sound should go. Oh AND it's a gay anthem on top of all that 💕

I've always seen Churchyard as a story of overcoming your fears and not listening to bad people. Like, someone says she belongs in bad places and she'll never get out of there, and then as the song progresses she gets bigger and stronger and is able to leave the "churchyard". That outro sounds to me like shes back to haunt that person who puts her down. Maybe it's her spirit, maybe it is that person's mind feeling remorse. I dont know, but I think it's one of her most intriguing songs
