I noticed Lux archival is quite a bit more expensive than pastelmat, is the lux archival worth the extra money?

Thank you for your review. It looks like I'm going shopping. Have to give Lux a crack!!! Pastelmat is my go-to paper and each artist is different so this is going to be interesting.

Thankyou so much for demoing the Lux paper. I can't wait until it's available in Australia so I can try it out. I wonder how it will go with Xrissart's brush technique as I am playing with that method just now. Thanks again.

I just received some samples of Lux and also Uart paper because of the need to do a very large pastel painting, 30” x 60”. I have used a few types, settled on Pastelmat (Duh!) and your demo helped a lot. I’ll be doing my own test, of course, but I’ve only been workin in pastels for 2 years, ANY art for that matter, and I’m booked for pet portraits 3 months out for the past year. I’m excited! Thank you for YOUR test since you have been doing great art for many years as opposed to myself. I started during the pandemic, only a few yearly sketches all my life before that. Thank you again!

Excellent review. It was nice to see one using pastel. How does it compare to Pastelmat for erasing or lifting pastel?

It actually erases amazing well too. Something I didn't think to add to the review.

Thank you for your careful, clear and detailed review. I used to use and swore by Wallis pastel paper, which unfortunately is not available anymore. I did try Pastel Mat, but I did not really like it. Sorry, I can’t remember why. I liked a paper called Pastel Premiere, which I think it’s made in France. I wonder if you have tried that? Also, I have noticed other artists on KZbin seem to love UArt pastel paper. I now have a sampling of UArt and some Lux Archival. I haven’t tried either of them yet, because I am still using out the last of my Wallis paper. But if you have any comments on these,I would love to read them.

Good content, but I had trouble following you when you began to compare without visuals . Sounds like you really like Lux more than Pastelmat and have valid points, I will just have to experiment a bit to see what I like more. I am not sure about the cost though.

@@mattariety955 - They wouldn’t be my first choice for the initial layers. They’re a bit too soft/sticky. When I get towards the end, I’m essentially burnishing so the Prismacolor colors that are lightfast should work there.

I was curious if the white mark showed over the soft blue due to displacement as shown by the dust on the many layers. Being archival is great but how does it compare to other sanded papers like Fishers, Uart or Sennelier pastel card? I agree Pastelmat can be a slower process especially in colored pencils. I love the color vibrancy difference I just wonder how it compared to other sanded papers. Please let me know cause I work between the pastels and colored pencils. Oh and can it take wet washes or underpaintings? I know so many questions. Btw I love your reviews and art! I am testing out a finishing fixative for pastels and a "varnishing" product. I am liking it. Thank you!
@UnmaskArt4 жыл бұрын
Fisher and Uart are sandpaper which is different than sanded paper. One key difference with this paper compared to those two is the uniformity in texture. Works very much the same in most regards however. Yes it can take wet medium washes.

Do you think it would be usable for doing miniature drawings with pastel pencils? I love Pastelmat, but I’d like to be able to get slightly finer lines.

Not significantly less difficult than pastelmat. Having done miniatures on pastelmat, it's more important to have a good sharpener.

And it destroys your sofft tools. It does rip the sponge apart. Terribly. I used super light hand too, and had sponge pieces everywhere. You must have gotten some 'special' pieces of the luxarchival 😂

Only if you have the touch up texture fixative otherwise it's all pretty much a giant waste of money in every sense. Very very dissapointed at how much I spent and can't get the fixative spray mailed to hawaii so it was all worthless. They need to be telling people in big bold letters on these products. Agh
