Really a luxury fiberglass travel trailer. However, I was dismayed when you opened the small pantry/cabinet, and exposed those wire shelves! And that shelf that you lifted being held by Velcro strips. No! And those pleated shades, instead of mcd shades. C’mon Oliver, for the price you’re asking, you can do better. Thank you.
@mattduncan20315 жыл бұрын
The Oliver is a double-hulled fiberglass shell design (i think the only of it's kind)... meaning there is an outside shell of fiberglass and another inside shell of fiberglass. Insulation, plumbing, electrical, furnace, tanks, water heater, etc are all enclosed between the two shells. This type of design is not easy to build but it allows the heat to circulate between the shells to prevent freezing when the furnace is running. Yes it is more expensive than other travel trailers (comparable or less than AS) but it also takes about 8 weeks to build one. They also have a lifetime warranty on their fiberglass and five year on their aluminum chassis. Only wood is basically in the kitchen galley drawers, so no worries about wood rot from leaks. It is the best quality travel trailer I have ever seen! Customer service is also first-class!

This is a very good, fair review. I liked the style of Airstreams but I loved the marine quality of the Oliver, so I bought the Oliver. Even the steps are heavier gauge than the frames of some other units. This is a lifetime trailer. Mine will go to my daughter when I can no longer travel. It’s not for everyone, but I’m too old to be repairing stuff that falls apart every time I drive down a dirt road. Oliver is the best I could find and it suits my camping style perfectly.

After seeing this video, I'm glad I chose to buy our Lance 2285. It is 4 seasons, with a large slide/dinette that seats 4-6, with a sofa for 2-3 more. 45 gal. wtr,45 gal. blk, and 90 gal. grey. a full queen walk-around bed, Dry bath with large shower, and nice rear kitchen. Composite construction, aluminum frame, and dexter axles Weighing in at 5391 with options. Seriously, I can't imagine paying 50-70k to be so cramped in an Oliver!

I almost bought an Airstream, but when I heard about the Oliver II I thoroughly checked it out and bought a new one from the factory a few months ago. Far exceeds Airstream in quality and the cost was about $20,000 less than a comparable size Airstream. Also four-season, which Airstream is not. From reading a lot of research and reviews on all brands of travel trailers, I really believe the Oliver is the highest quality trailer available anywhere. There aren't many videos of Olivers out there, so yours is a really nice addition!

@jeffreywilson16775 жыл бұрын
Not sure why there is a price issue on this. Many airstream trailers are much more with less features. Better structure, better insulation, better features short of the wet bath. It doesn't blind you to look at it in the sun, doesn't dent like a airstream and it is very unique.
@toptobottom2476 жыл бұрын
The build of this camper is phenomenal. I want to describe this trailer as Airstream's 4 season cousin since Airstream doesn't have 4 season coaches. The fact that the interior is not covered in a wood grain just make it feel bright and airy and open. I would love to see one in person. My personal options are no propane. Single burner induction plate and flexible version solar panels for wind tunnel effienceny and get rid of the air conditioner.
@johnharper20166 жыл бұрын
We looked at Olivers 2 years ago when shopping for Travel Trailer. Very nice, high quality fit, finish and fixtures. Premium product with premium price. Deal breaker was wet bath. The "Ambassador" that showed us his Elite II was great guy that really loved his Oliver. They have a very long "Options List". We ultimately purchased a new 2017 Airstream International Serenity 23D for just under $65K, out the door. The MSRP was $82K so there is room for negotiation when you purchase. Included solar, rear vision camera, and full awning package. Those were the only options offered. Everything else was standard equipment. In our estimation, the Airstream is a far better value. Wet bath at 60K is a big no go. Airstream also has a pretty decent dealer network in the U.S. Just MHO.

Amazing small trailer, but you lost me on the price. That's about double what I was expecting......... I guess I'm being unrealistic.
@ReflectedMiles6 жыл бұрын
What?? You don't think you should have a tiny trailer with a wet bath for that price? :-> It's ridiculous. You could get a customized cargo trailer with a genuine R27 insulated roof system and R12 walls with a real shower for about $25k less than this, and still with a small floorplan / relatively light weight.
@tommytmt6 жыл бұрын
Reflected Miles - What company are you referring to?? Seriously I’d love an affordable custom trailer!
@ReflectedMiles5 жыл бұрын
OOO There are several companies around the country that customize cargo trailers, mostly for commercial users like corporations that have to create temporary living or office space in harsh environments like North Dakota or Alaska. Most RVers aren’t going to like them, though, because they’re utilitarian, not principally aesthetic. The RV industry knows what sells. If someone wants to spend a lot of money to look great and still be closer to those commercial standards, the RV edition fishing rigs sold for winter use on Minnesota lakes are better (Ice Castle, etc.). They can “sit down” on a flat surface which also makes it easy to stop bitter winds from blowing underneath.
@shekharmoona5445 жыл бұрын
This thing reminds me of a Scamp. Nothing substantial was mechanically powered. The outside faucets seem like the cheap white faucets everyone else uses. 53 is way to much for a trailer that looks like they took a Scamp trailer and upgraded it.

I love the attention to detail (e.g. placement of the generator plug, access hatch for propane tanks, etc.), that they have a composting toilet as an option (I hope more RV companies start to do this), and the leveling jacks (so nice). The interior also looks really nice- I’m happy RV manufacturers are moving away from traditional RV decor (e.g. dated, busy patterns, etc.). If I could make some changes, I would have an option for a compressor fridge (ideally pullout fridge drawers) and gravity water fill for people who want to boondock. I really like this trailer, though.
@bradarmstrong74672 жыл бұрын
Actually (yes I know your post is three years old but.....) in the 2023 model they are switching to a compressor fridge and they have feature that imho is better than a gravity feed for water (Which they also have) there is a water inlet on the curb (door) side in the back at the bottom, run a hose from a 5 gallon water tank or a 50 gallon water bladder in the back of your truck, turn on your water pump for your water tank and it will pull the water out and fill your fresh water tank, a real blessing for Boondocking!
@dannyyates72086 жыл бұрын
Great video Joe. Great 4 season camper for a single or a couple. The construction is hands down the best on the market. The size is great for getting into those tight places where other campers won't fix. It also has good ground clearance for those who like boondocking on the back roads. It also wouldn't take a very big vehicle to tow the small camper which in itself would save thousands of dollar in fuel alone. Again, great job on a great camper.

@joeo72576 жыл бұрын
Nice!!! It's not for Joe the Plumber, but a retired couple would really enjoy it. I would expect the maintenance and repairs to be far less than a standard trailer. I'll bet it's quiet inside. I like all of the power ports, and abundant solar , batteries and inverter. The tow vehicle would need to cary a water tank that can replenish water into the storage tank, lawn chairs, table, blue boy, barbecue grill, outdoor rugs, etc. Over all, well thought out.

Sure they look cool yet do not automaticalyl buy into the Airstream hype. They have great resale value yet they are just another aluminum on steel frame rig that you have to somehow spend time in. KZbin videos abound of people modifying their Airstream interiors and finding the same old cost cutting tricks you find on many RV's. Before you buy, really look under the skin of an Airstream. Its not the magical dirigible you Dad always wanted. On the other hand, I saw an Oliver at a state park in Washington this Summer and came away very impressed with virtually everything inside and out. Give them and other brands a looky-see before assuming nothing compares to an A-stream.

Great video! Laura and I have an ‘05 Casita 17’ Freedom Deluxe molded fiberglass camper that we bought used 3 years ago. I am a huge molded fiberglass camper fan. The Oliver is at the apex of luxury, form and function in the molded fiberglass camper world. We live 2.5 hours from the Oliver plant. We have toured the plant. We have attended two of the three Oliver Rallies. We have enjoyed getting to know the Oliver family that makes the trailers as well as many Oliver owners. Yes, Olivers are expensive, but Olivers are “marine grade” precision camping instruments! ;) Personally, I would easily choose the Oliver Legacy Elite II 23.5 over an Airstream 23’ (I am an Airstream fan, too, but I prefer the Oliver). The big plus to me is the 4 season ability. I definitely would like to see the interior as it just seems be claustrophobic especially because they keep the shades drawn for all of there media shots. One of the big pluses of an airstream is the huge windows, then again the disadvanted of a 4 season trailer as that is a source of heat loss.The only oddity is the front storage tray. It lengthens the trailer probably by a foot. One of the advantages of such a trailer is that it smaller, that means it easier to tow and moves to places longer trailers can't. So you add another foot for such small amount of storage that makes it less compact and adds a long lever action to you tongue weight. Even if it's a great place to put a generator you still have to pick it up out of the tray as they recommend not running the genny in the tray. This tray supposedly saves you from moving the genny from the back of the truck which is right there beside you. In fact you only have to lift it once to put it back in the truck where as the storage tray you have to lift it twice, if this is a weight issue. There really isn't much of an advantage unless you have a real high tail gate but generally the tow vehicles are half tons and don't have a high bed height.
@allens74766 жыл бұрын
I think the Oliver would be a competitor to the Airstream except for one huge factor, floor space. Two people can't walk past each other easily. Oliver needs to make it 8.5' wide IMO.
@rxonmymind83626 жыл бұрын
One? Try couple. Wet bath. As a previous poster just mention I would hate to take a wet bath and then have to wake up in the middle of night walking on a wet floor sink and a muggy bathroom. But to be fair to the Oliver I just purchased 23 foot Airstream front bedroom model and that's very tight for two people. We can't walk by each other. Maybe in the 27'-33'? Definitely NOT in mine. On the other hand trailer such as the Oliver and my Airstream being so narrow I've noticed the furnace heats up the area very fast. My friend who has a 35 footer complaints about using too much propane to heat his huge trailer and has instead go to one heater in this bedroom. So their are trade offs.
@rxonmymind83626 жыл бұрын
@Robin Sherman I've only had it a month living on the coast here in San Francisco. Through rain, wind and some 39° temps I've had zero problems. On EVERY forum (I drive a Toyota) you'll find that it's a dumping ground for "problems". Bad news travels fast with good news barely getting out. Remember these are rolling, bouncing homes and things will have to be tightened, a checklist kept up and maintenance on a monthly basis. That's trailer life. I purchased this for the Airstream support too that's nation wide pretty much. Oliver? Good luck. He closed shop in 2008-2012 and that gave me pause. One man, one company --gone tomorrow. Airstream on the other hand has history, dealership network, durability and will be around for a long time. That's what made my decision.
@mattduncan20315 жыл бұрын
@@rxonmymind8362 Oliver made trailers up until 2009 when the economy crashed (along with the RV market). They just made a decision to temporarily shut down their travel trailer division until the economy and RV market came back around, concentrating on their other businesses that were thriving. They still had service support open for the customers that had previously purchased in 2008-2009. With the economy and RV market coming back around, they started making trailers again in 2013 or so. Oliver actually has 4 or 5 companies. In the same factory where they make their trailers, they make several fiberglass bath products (showers and tubs). They are also the world's largest manufacturer of walk-in bath tubs (they make them for Safe Step Walk-In Tubs in the same factory). The also are a leading manufacturer in the setup material for the manufactured housing industry. They aren't going anywhere. As far as a dealer network... of course they sell direct, but from what I understand, they work with RV service centers all across North America when their customers need service or warranty work.

I don't think it's fair you bashing the Bigfoot like that without completely understanding the facts. Just because Bigfoot doesn't have a double hull doesn't mean it's a piece of shit. It DOES NOT equate to less comfort, the quality of the insulation and engineering is exceptional. It's extremely strong, very reliable, requires minimal maintenance, and has a very long life span. Trust me the reason they are expensive is because they use high quality materials throughout. They are built to withstand the climate and severe conditions here in the Canadian north. To prove they are quality, you'll still see Bigfoots built in the early 80's rolling down the road. That's 40 years! how long do you want a trailer to last sir? You'll be fertilizer before your Bigfoot needs to be retired trust me. Ditto on the cost. But then again, quality construction costs more. Similar construction, check out the "Bigfoot" (manufactured out west). The "Runaway Roses" have a used one that is very nice. Check out their tour on their UT channel. Tell them the Freebirds from TN sent you!

I’m always up for a game of Euchre! That’s a very nice camping trailer! The four season capability is really appealing to me.

Three things. . . It needs a queen size bed. It needs a propane oven instead of a microwave. It needs to have the price tag cut in half.
@chrisneuhaus7188 Жыл бұрын
Why would they cut the price in half, every one they make is sold before its finished? Besides, unlike any other camper on the market, the Oliver will still be worth it's original purchase price four years after you buy it. Decide to sell it and recover all your investment. Sounds extremely economical to me.

I had those shades in my Winnebago View and NEVER AGAIN. The silly string they use breaks. I hear some folks have gotten good at restringing them but I have better things to do. Regarding the cabinet doors I’ve seen split sliding doors I like better. The clean look is nice and it looks like keeping it clean would be easy.

They did some really nice things they’re yes it is expensive but damn they really went for it with that one. They included solar and four battery system is pretty awesome. I’d like to think I could take a more basic trailer and add those options to get that kind of functionality but I’d never be able to get that clean look.

That was a very informative video. Thanks Joe. What are some of the optional upgrades? Can you do tour of a comparable Airstream?

Hi 277kne! We do have a comparison table of the Airstream to Oliver if that is what you are looking for. Here: olivertraveltrailers.com/travel-trailers/compare-travel-trailers/ And also the options and features can be found on our pages: olivertraveltrailers.com/travel-trailers/legacy-elite-2/

I almost ordered an Oliver. over 68K!!! Then I learned that the flat freshwater tank only will dispense about half as the rest of the water didn't flow to the pump. Units needed retrofit which means a trip to Tennessee. As a point, almost ALL repairs need to be done in TN, they are factory direct with no dealer network. They are very small (and noisy with a/c on). Just for the hell of it before pulling the trigger we went and looked at a 1yr old (but never used) Airstream FC27. We were blown away. Even the AS 23, the same length as Oliver is much more roomy due to additional width and a bathroom with separate shower. We got the AS 27 for 6,600 LESS than the Oliver. No comparison. No TT is perfect but Airstream is the best on the market.
@chrisneuhaus7188 Жыл бұрын
How much is it worth today, and how much have you had to spend on maintenance over the last 4 years? The Oliver would still be worth $68K. The items you mentioned have all been fixed and even many other upgrades added over the past 4 years. Airstream prices have skyrocketed.
@bluestarindustrialarts7712 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisneuhaus7188 I had and used our Airstream for almost 3 years. Maintenance? No more than any other trailer, wheels, tires, washing and waxing etc. I only had to take it for service once...the 2nd ac unit wouldnt start, I thought it was just a capacitor but AS replaced the entire unit, no cost. And the dealership is right here in NJ no need to travel to Tenn. Was an excellent TT would recommend to anyone. At the time we bought it the Oliver as we configured totaled 71,725. My check to Colonial AS was 65,111. For a new 27 footer with 2 A/C's. As for what it may be worth today, I don't know....we sold it at the height of the Covid induced camping craze (and yes prices did skyrocket and delivery waits were long) we listed it for 68.5k and sold it within a month to a couple from PA, the second ones who looked at it. If they took care of like we did my bet is that they can still get close to 60 for it, maybe more a 2022 model similarly equipped is almost 120K.

@@bluestarindustrialarts7712 I have not owned an Airstream, but I've read many of the owners' stories of leaking seams, hail damage, rotten floors and framing, and poor insulation and frozen pluming. Heck there's whole KZbin videos on the problems with Airstreams. I also know first hand that many of the Oliver owners are former Airstream owners that decided to get away from those issues. The ones I know say they would never consider an Airstream again. You owned yours for 3 years. I know Oliver owners that have owned 14 years and their campers still look as good as they did coming off the production floor. One of them has over 200K miles on it. That's how you know the real durability of a camper design. BTW the Olivers have gone up considerably to both because of inflation, but more so because they have upgraded everything they are installing in them. 640amp/hr Lithionics Victron system with 400w of solar and 3000w inverter. Compressor fridge. Truma AC/Heat and tankless water heater on an integrated control system. Heavier maintenance free axils to name a few. Even with all this it is still almost $20K less than the current price you stated a comparable Airstream would cost. This upward pricing for new Olivers is bringing the used unit price up with it understandably. And the covid boom is over. Other brands prices are plummeting now. I don't hate Airstreams. I actually like them. But when folks whine about the price of the Oliver product and say the Airstream is the better value, I know better. The Airstream is definitely a better value than all the fast build junk RVs people think are a bargain. But no Airstream is a better value than an Oliver. It's valuable to those who want an Airstream. And an Oliver is valuable because it will be something your kids will inherit and use if you decide to keep it that long.

@@chrisneuhaus7188 I didnt say they wern't good units they are. If it was just me and a small dog, it would be in the running for a choice. But 2 adults and gear......a bit tight. I had no issues with my AS except the a/c thing that they took care of in 1 day. Never had leaks...they are not a 4 season unit like Oliver is. Extreme winter camping they are not designed for. Trailers are a personal choice. I enjoyed the room, the layout, the light from the windows, etc. That AS took us on adventures and fun and memory building experiences hassle free, and I sold it for more than I paid for it. Cant ask for more from a product.

I think many people are used to the prices on a standard built trailer. They are horrible construction for the most part and that is why they are affordable. This trailer is not really my style but it seems the construction of this unit will probably last without the typical problems found in mass produced trailers.

Nice fiber intro of a trailer, I don't know they existed. Learn a lot and thanks. I like the inside design. Not too much of the outside look wise. $70K is not bad to get the quality. Most trailer and camper are cheaper but they serve a shorter lifespan. I think people talked about cheap trailer build from other makes. But people are not looking for a long-term ownership neither. Joe, are you guys thinking of a trailer after the Hymer since you invest quite a few videos of it. I like to hear how a trailer works relatively to the advantage of a B Van. Would a trailer life very much different than a van life from your perspective? How trailer life can serve an independent life based on your book? We did trailer for more than 10 years in the past.
