I have the same van and I love it but people don’t realize that it’s a way different lifestyle than a 4 wheel drive overlander home. It limits where you can go. I think you have a good fit with Poe. You have way too much energy for Vanlife right now. Save vanlife for the next decade of your life and enjoy the adventures right now!

If you're mechanical, you can enjoy the Rover. Because of it's design It can go further off road than the van even if the van is 4x4... But if you can't do your own work on it, the Rover is going to be a heap of problems I had a great experience owning a range Rover classic

We lived in Colorado the whole time our kids were growing up through college. We always had at least 1 4x4 and always had kitty litter. We also had chains for some mountain roads. That isn’t being neurotic just safe. It is always good to have a firearm and know how to use it.

I have not seen you and blue that happy in a long time. Love watching your videos. Honestly, I was scared for you at times with it being so cold. I think your adventures will be more enjoyable, you and blue will get proper rest 💙 and be warm when it's super cold. I say you only live once and go for the van! Continuing to stick money into Poe will get even more expensive. This way you will have piece of mind knowing you will be safe, have heat and its reliable. Plus when your dad or brother want to tag along you have more room.

Blue looks like he gets van life now too! This would be so comfortable for him while undergoing treatments. I understand how you feel about Poe though. I camped in a tent my whole life until I turned 55 then gave in and got a pop up. I am now 66 and just bought a 20 ft. camper. I did exactly what you talked about. I went on a boat trip up the inside passage with my family when I was 16 years old.We I stayed in Southeast Alaska for a little over a year. Hunting fishing and outdoor life has never been the same and I've lived most of my life in Oregon.I remember all our adventures like it was yesterday.

Everyone here is all about the Van life, but I'm still here for the Defender adventures! Owning and traveling in a Defender is special for so many reasons. The smell of diesel, the hard cold starts, the awful headlights, the always broken wiper blades, noisy drive, I could go on forever... but Defender ownership is THE BEST! Looking forward to the repairs of Poe and the continued adventures in Alaska. Hope you and Blue were able to enjoy your time home with family and start the New Year off right. Stay Safe!

I'm glad you like the van, it seemed to be more comfortable for you. But whatever you are comfortable to drive in and like the best, it is your choice . I just saw your videos about a week or so ago. I am already addicted to you and your travels. I do worry about one thing, you are such a beautiful young lady, I worry so much about your safety in your travels. It doesn't matter what you are traveling in, PLEASE make sure you take precautions and make security for yourself one of your top goals!! I have a nephew who moved to Alaska about 25 years ago as a bush pilot. He stayed and raised his family. Today he’s a cargo plane pilot in Anchorage. He’ll probably never move from Alaska, he loves it.

I'm thinking you and Blue need a van. Makes things easier for both of you😊 You both seem very happy in it. Front wheel drive Promaster is not good in the snow. Good snow tires and chains help. Try to stay local as you will get stranded in mountains. When you do get a van awd or 4x4 is best. Stay safe.

A great tip for when ur stuck or in bad conditions is airing down ur tire pressure. I usually do 30 seconds intervals to keep them even, I wouldn't go lower than like 15psi total but that will do wonders! Glad to see you didn't get rid of Poe! It takes a special person to love old vehicles.

That scenery was jaw dropping Maria! Just stunning. I loved the van because it was warm and comfortable but those 2 wheel drives are annoying (I have one) and have been bogged a few times. Definitely a 4 wheel drive for me next. Loved seeing Blue look so great. I love him to bits and continue to pray for his healing 🙏 ❤️

While I no longer live in Alaska, I grew up in Homer, Alaska. I have enjoyed your Alaskan adventures so far, brings back memories. I'm relieved to see you in something where you can be warm! Maybe you can use a van during the coldest parts of the winter and Poe rest of the year. They can should have come with snow tires! And tire chains, or studded tires. I'd call the up and dand that they replace the tires. If they're an Alaskan company they need to have them. It's pretty obvious that Blue is really tuned I to you and can sense when you're getting stressed. He knows which seat is the driver's seat, no matter the vehicle, because it has your smell, which is what he wants, sweet boy.

Maria, Facts about living in Alaska. There is no state income tax nor is there a state income tax. Some cities have a small city tax, however, and after being a resident for 1 year, You will receive A share of the oil money from the state of alaska. Alaska is a very beautiful place.

I'm so glad blue is still with you. When blue got his cancer so did my best friend, a beautiful border collie sadly she died last Nov. I Adopted another border collie from a local shelter and he is great, I'll never forget the one I lost but it seems right to move on.

While van looks more comfortable for both of You, I think for your curious nature proper 4x4 is much more suitable. Also Poe is more agile, compact, you can drive it almost anywhere. It would be awesome for both of You to have new, shiny, modern, 4x4 vehicle as long as you can afford it in some near future (although I simply adore classic LR Defender). I'd also like to thank You for the content you're producing, it's very relaxing for me watching your adventures. I'd also like to see some long-term project by yourself, which could be literally anything, but I think it would be nice to progress through it with you, see your advancement etc.

Might be too late, but I always carry a little shovel and some salt or cat litter. Any time you're stuck, shovel out a 1-3 foot strip behind your tires and sprinkle salt over what's left, and you can drive out without having to run back for those orange things.

Maria, vanlifers have nothing on you. You’re a badass!! The experience you have with Poe, could never happen in a van, but the experience of living in an apartment could. That’s not what you signed up for. Think you would have had to mess around for 20 minutes, just to have a local help get you unstuck? No, but you’d probably had to wait for a local to help for something else with Poe…lol. That’s how life works. I do like the pull out table though. Blue is looking good and happy, thank GOD. I love your defender, but as someone with a nearly 11 year old aussie, they do start having difficulties traversing the things they used to. Atlas still tries to jump straight up into my 91 Silverado but bless his heart he now understands that mama needs to lift him. I do my best to make things easier on him to hopefully slow down the wear and tear. Hoping he makes it to 20 like my last aussie Honey 💙💙
