When prices are going up, everyone wants to buy, and no one wants to sell. When prices start to fall, everyone wants to sell, and no one wants to buy. Simple.

A used watch should Never be priced above that of a new one. No one should pay over retail for a Sub/Datejust. Same goes for any other brand. It use to be that way before the pandemic, hopefully things will go back to normal sooner than later.
@TheWatchBros20 күн бұрын
Well, I definitely believe in market demand dictating price. So I understand if a certain “special” piece goes for over retail on the secondary. Billy when most watches are selling for over, then something smells fishy to me. To your point, watches are a “use” product and for the most part, should sell for under it’s retail price - Jason

@@TheWatchBrosdude it’s cause of the AD game. Omega resale value is fine and so are other companies that didn’t treat customers like shit. It’s cringe to have a Rolex. Who did you let bend you over? The AD? Who made you buy shit you didn’t want to get the watch or the grey market shark who made you pay 4x retail for it (that the AD sold to him out the back door). You are too close to the elephant and not seeing what is happening in the culture cause you’re an enthusiast and you sell watches for a living.

My guess is that as much as the flippers inflated prices so did easy financing by way of credit cards, affirm-type loans and helocs. The chickens always come home to roost and the bills are due. I agree there is a market correction (crash may be too strong a term) with some forced selling from the gray market dealers (the deals are hard to resist in some cases). Good for consumers with dry powder. I am interested in what happens to the periphery brands though and all those ADs that are stuck with expensive niche watches.
@TheWatchBros20 күн бұрын
You’re absolutely correct. Credit cards and financing definitely played into the inflation of the watch market. The “market correction” is a good thing for us, collectors, in the end. But I also feel bad for those AD’s that are going to be on the struggle bus holding watches that sell way below retail on the secondary now. - Jason

When we got into pandemic and the watches prices all shot up, I was like “nah, no way am I buying at such absurd (at least to me) prices” Like what Warren Buffett always say: “Be fearful when people are greedy.” And now watching so many videos of people selling to dealer at a huge loss, and even knowing friends who done so, further emphasize how wise Mr WB advise is, and not applicable to only the stock market 😂

finaly objective journalism, better now then never but thik this topic should be disscused at least year ago. If you are long enough in watch game geanerally speaking, we see this ups & downs so many times. If you say newones that 2 x Rolex was traded for Cartier Pasha mid 90's, that Frank Muler was big deal hyped watch, same as Panerai - doing exact same decade ago.... APRO was missunderstood watch rare one wants to have, Nautilus meh... in most cases faces looks like this 😮 I personally don't see it as a crash, its more back to reality. It was, still is and it will be expensive game as luxury is.

Waitlist or not, that's going to be a very hard watch to get. It's a very low run, even by Rolex standards. The waitlist are going to continue to get shorter, but mainly for watches there should have never been a waitlist for. Black sub is an example.
