I don’t enjoy watching the folks who do this for a living, with the exception of Cassie Thorpe, because she manages to keep the joy factor authentic- I never get the impression she’s trying to sell something. I tend to subscribe only to the smaller folks who do this as a hobby. Keep doing what you enjoy doing and who cares what the others are up to!

The over-the-moon excitement of the moment - I miss that. Just like your oil slick Capucines and caviar mini recent unboxings -THAT is what we all have in common, the love of handbags and how so many of them are wearable art.

I tend to fall along the old school line. I don't like watching people push products. I dearly love watching unboxings, what's in my bags, and purse comparisons. I love pros and cons videos as well. I don't live in a city where there are any luxury stores except a small Louis Vuitton. When I purchase a handbag, I love seeing videos about what size wallet will fit in. I love getting to see the inside of the bag, and how it looks on. I don't always have that luxury. I love good honest reviews as well. I also miss the joy of seeing someone unveil a bag they've been saving for. That is so much fun! I watch you because I can tell that you are passionate about handbags. So am I! We share the same joy. I also appreciate your honest reviews. This was a great topic, and very timely.

You are my go-to for reviews and industry news. I began KZbin because I hated having to sit through the commercials on TV. I elected to pay $19 a month to watch KZbin “commercial free” only to now see my favorite channels succumb to “sponsorships”. I am doing my own personal rebellion by unsubscribing (Handbags, travel, camping, etc)to those KZbinrs who caved into pressure. Yes, my list of favorites has been drastically reduced, but for now I choose to stay with “old school” channels because, after all I pay $19 a month to watch commercial free. I’ve been watching luxury KZbin for a long time now too, and you’re absolutely right - it has changed. I’m not a fan of the new influencer focused model. I just can’t trust someone’s opinion on something when they’re changing what they’re loving every week based on sponsorships. I don’t mind the vlogs - the shopping vlogs will never stop being fun for me - and, unlike you, I was (and still am) a huge fan of what’s in my bag, hehe. I miss the old days I guess. I continue to watch the OGs, but a few of them who have expanded the focus of their channels reflect lifestyles that are no longer relatable, to be honest. I watch them a lot less now. Nice video. Right now im going through these feelings about one of my favorite KZbinrs. The channel has definitely become their full-time job (they bought a house and expanded their family). despite their best efforts it now feels a little bit like their content is to professionalized and that they’re choosing their words a little more carefully as they present more sponsorships. and I don’t enjoy that as much. I don’t enjoy feeling like I’m paying for someone else’s lifestyle that they are then feeding back to me as content. I much prefer the hobby/passion project feel to contribute to.

I am very picky about who I will work with, you know how many emails we get to promote things. I really don't like channels that only unbox and never show a mod shot or what fits. There is nothing helpful on some of these channels at all. I don't have every store here either so I like WIMB but please DO not show me your lip color etc. Just what size pouches fit etc. I do call this my "job" but in the loosest term possible. I have been watching luxury KZbin for years. I also live in a city with no luxury stores so I loved watching unboxing videos because I wanted a review of the bag and what fits inside. I order my bags online and I try to fit in a quarterly trip to Dallas to shop. My Chanel SA is amazing, she sends me texts on the new arrivals and will ship items to me but it doesn’t compare to shopping in store and seeing her in person. I have noticed a change over the years and it has changed a lot. I enjoyed the hauls because I got to see how the clothes were styled. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from those types of videos but I don’t see much of them anymore. I loved Dayles video on the items she purchased before her trip last year and I loved all of your videos on your meet up in London. But I do think so much has changed in the world over the last three years that have changed people’s perspective about over consumption, I know I have. I just want to enjoy what I have and not constantly look to see what I want to add next. I hope you and all my other favorite KZbinrs continue to make content, I would really miss you all if you left.

Hi Deb, great video! I have been watching luxury videos 10+ years at least. I “stumbled” upon them bc I was interested in purchasing my first LV bag and wondered if I could find a review. Jerusha Couture TV was definitely one of the first channels where I became a subscriber😅channels back then didn’t seem to have an underlying agenda. They were informative and did a thorough job of giving a great review. Over time the videos have turned into a “isn’t this pretty type of video-which I appreciate, but the helpful part of the video tends to come out when someone wants to sell the video and the focus is on why it didn’t work. The title influencer is actually derogatory to me and makes me very hesitant to purchase the product. Especially if nearly the entire community is advertising it. Senreve is a great example of an unattractive bag with decent marketing. I watch the videos of people I feel I could be friends with and enjoy their personalities. 😅

I'm an older gal, and very skeptical. That's why when I see a KZbinr try to "sell" an item, such as a hair curler, jewelry (fake diamonds, or ahem ... lab grown???), clothes from Chinese vendors, etc, I tend to fast forward through that portion of the clip. Don't get me wrong, I HAVE gone to sites, and have purchased a few items over time, but found the items hawked rather lacking. What I do love is watching shopping videos (there's a lovely Milan window shopping channel), or videos showing quality and true thoughts on items (Leatherman). Keep up your wonderful channel and don't succumb to selling out to hawk products if you don't have to. (-: You are correct, it tends to confuse and/or turn off some people after a while (As PT Barnum has been quoted to have said "there's a sucker born every minute.") No one likes to admit they were had. Cheers!

I did unsubscribe to three big haul type of vlogs because it was sickening to watch the over consumption. Here’s what I like about your content and the others mentioned above in order that I listed. You: helpful in information on bags. Your Longchamp video and last YSL vlog are examples. Amelia: consumes a lot but I don’t care because she provides useful information on how she uses her bags. Her first video ever on the Nice Mini is a perfect example. Cassie: So fun and links everything she is wearing so I don’t have to search for it. Her first Fendi fashion show was hilarious and fun. She did exactly what I would have done when she was gifted her red satin bag by Fendi rep who was oh so proper which made the video even more fun. Dacob: So knowledgeable about the houses and their products. Always encouraging us to find affordable luxury items like his blue Chanel vintage bow. Jess: So honest in sharing all the ups and downs of luxury buying emotions. Lou: beautiful blogs that are authentic. I bought my first speedy 30 because of her post on how it was a work horse. Connor is like Cassie. Fun and witty. Connor has a carefully curated collection that is what I am working towards. Thank you for your videos. I was so excited to see you posted. I started watching luxury KZbin videos since 2016 and i really miss those days (2016-2019) It's not the same anymore. Lydia for example has moved from bag reviews to vlogs, her house, her life for 1-2 hours.. I don't even want to watch a celebrity for that long. Just saying 😅

I was able to choose my LV Alma BB because I was able to see so many detailed reviews. I knew exactly what I wanted. It's completely different now. I've just watched Jerusha's video where she says she's taking a break from all social media. I completely understand why she's decided to to do that. She also talked about how it's all changed and not always for the better. What turned me off the likes of Lydia Millen and many, many others like her is that it came to a point where it felt their whole lives were 'on sale' (does that make sense?) It is all about the aesthetic, the products, the lifestyle, everything. It all feels stage managed. Given their follower numbers, it's clearly popular and if you love, go for it and enjoy it! But if you're following these people and you're trying to live like that and it's getting to you and you're not enjoying it, then it might be time to unfollow and take a step back xx

I just fast fwd or dont watch the sponsored content, I watch designer items, hauls, reviews, and closet tours as well as styling video's. Personally don't watch the big youtubers. Not into the short clips either.

It’s a catch-22 situation for me. I understand how much effort and time goes into making these videos, and getting paid for that work makes sense. On the other hand, when I am looking at a luxury KZbin channel and the owner is pushing some inferior jewelry or leather goods brand, all the while being decked out in Cartier and having a Birkin on their wrists and shelves, it feels very disingenuous to me. At the very least, if you’re going to try to sell me something, make it something you would wear or carry in your real life, please. If not, you’ve become a sales person first and a contend creator second. I do enjoy many KZbin channels, but have noticed that once their subscriber number hits approx. 30k, their focus seems to change. Not all, of course, but most.

I’m happy to agree to sponsorships as long as it feels right. It does take a lot of time and effort to put together content and I think it’s ok to be remunerated for that. However it’s when the narrative changes away from one brand to another each being a ‘gamechanger’ that’s when it feels disingenuous to me x

I've gotten tired of it. There is an IT bag every couple of months and luxury has become fast fashion. I am so over it and getting flooded with images of the same bag everywhere just turns me off of the bag at this point. Like Polene. LEAVE ME ALONE!!! 🤣🤣 Just because of this I will probably never buy a Polene.

Saludos!

It’s hard watching small KZbinrs change especially if you’ve enjoyed them for a while. They start to cosy up to bigger KZbinrs, tag them, start collabs with them and inevitably change. I have unsubbed from so many and there are a few more I am watching with interest as I can see them stepping over that line. For me the line is overconsumption, massive hauls with so many boxes filling the background and a cheesy thumbnail. Overconsumption is such a massive societal problem, I really don’t want to be part of that. I just like to see people’s style! Not their lifestyle. It’s self obsession, I get second hand embarrassment. When they start to post pictures of what their coffee looks like and then them drinking it, it’s a slippery slope downwards from there. Or some start posting their makeup application, honestly, just because you can put on makeup doesn’t mean you should post it online. I always say to my kids ‘just because there is a stage doesn’t mean you have a right to be on it. You have to earn it.’ I have watched a few videos on this subject and much of it is self serving. Thanks for a good discussion.

Thank you for your comments. A lot of people love seeing more about the persons lifestyle and lots of people don’t. It’s all personal choice I guess. I know from my experience the more you put yourself out there on KZbin the more you get to know other KZbinrs in your community. I think that’s a fab thing as we can all grow our community together.

I do find that some specific youtubers have commercials in almost all their videos and it's annoying but I have come to expect it and I just skip through that part. In terms of luxury YT changing, what actually bothers me more is that people I used to enjoy watching talk about various different brands have now sold off all their other stuff and only buy and talk about Hermes. I do find it interesting sometimes but the fact that it's so monolithic now is annoying. I don't even want to look at another neutral B or K at this point, and I definitely don't want to see any more "bait" hauls of mugs, belts and whatever else. People should buy what they like, but I do think luxury YT has become much more dull since everyone decided that Hermes is the be-all and end-all. As for all the "what's in my bag" videos, I never understood the point, so I'm glad to see the back of them 😅 I do miss the helpful in-depth reviews though.

Remember the character of Jesse from the Fast Show? “This week, I have been mostly eating/wearing/using….”? That’s who most of these YT’rs remind me of 😂. I guess if you’re offered £5,000 and upwards for just one Instagram post and another £5,000 plus to talk on here about it, it’s easy money but I won’t be watching. I skip through almost everyone’s sponsored spiel so if that’s only going to leave me with 5 minutes of decent content out of a 40 minute video I’ll be off. Some are akin to an actual shopping channel these days.

Yes it’s a balance I think. For me I will accept sponsorships if I feel it’s the right fit for my channel - for me and also my audience. It does take a lot of time effort and money to put out consistent content so some remuneration for this is not a bad thing in my view x
@bagsandlifestyle6 ай бұрын
I like watching hauls. However, I personally prefer a balance. I get tired of watching videos from the same person and every video is just about “look what I bought”, no reviews, no what fits, no comparisons……… I still watch larger channels and I don’t think there is anything wrong with people making money from it. I think there is a balance and I don’t want people pushing things just because. If we don’t get mad at commercials then we can’t get mad at channels that have sponsorships. However, you can tell when someone is just promoting a product just because they want the revenue from it. Like you mentioned when you have someone that shows you a product a month ago and they said it is the best thing ever and then 2 months later share a similar product from another company and use the same wording “this is the best thing ever”……I don’t like that. Just state what it is but don’t say things just to say them. I’m not going to knock people for making money how they can because KZbin is free and when you are not contributing towards their time and effort they have to get paid someone. All that to say there is a balance and I don’t want to just be pushed products. However, I am not going to automatically stop watching someone because they have sponsorships. That’s not 100% fair to the person putting a lot of time and effort into these videos. I am not sure people realize how much time it takes to create a video, edit it, work on a thumb nail, title, and description for one video. You have channels out here that do this multiple times a week. KZbin is a hobby for me as well and I would like to pull in money from my hobby because I spend so much time on it. I don’t intend for this to be my full time job. I also want to remain authentic as well. Thanks for this topic.

I watch luxury youtube for the exact reasons that you mentioned. To find out about a bag, its pros and cons, mod shots and what fits inside. I'm not into WIMB. There are quite a few youtubers who I really like and find the topics they discuss interesting even if its not a bag/purse/luxury item. Agree with the other commenter about the ocersaturation of youtubers spruiking Idyll products, also Lilysilk and more recently Goelia. Initially it's interesting but when 10-15 youtubers talk about the same thing it just becomes boring and feels non-genuine. I end up fast forwarding through them. I've never bought anything from those places and the youtubers spruiking them have never inspired me to buy them. I think when you monetise something and make it into a business then it can end up feeling more like pressure and hard work then you end up feeling its not fun and enjoyable any more.

Oh yes. Unsubbed to most that has "evolved" in a dishonest direction. Want to see interesting design and or stylings. Not : cooking or restaurant meals, akwards hubby's😅,not ONE more word about lilysilk",squarespace ,cheap it bags" oh fantastic quality " but designed by baboons😂. Okay must stop to not be labeled toxic myself. Yes many know when the heart is in it due to genuine love of good design . Also like the idea of meeting point to give and receive advice outside facebook groups that also is a no show place for me. Back to the roots I say👍. Ok. Have to mention it:SO easy to spot fake frenemieships between rivals. But stick together by us against "them". Big turn off. Rant over. 😅 Okay cant help myself;being ghosted for comments that tell people where to buy certain thing that are "linked in the descriptions" for a much better prize. Only once on a channel I followed since like 5 thousands that now stalled approx at half a million. No names😅.

When I think that an influencer is only interested is selling a product I stop watching or I fast forward through the sales pitch. It becomes boring when you can tell that it really is just a pitch for cheap jewelry or some awful perfume. Deb, I like your channel because you stay true to yourself and always feel authentic. I don't mind "hauls", I just think that hauls is a negative word because it sounds like over consumption. I also have stopped watching when luxury KZbinrs show their expansive handbag collections. It feels privileged and out of touch.

My issue with Luxury YT is twofold. One, when new releases drop, everyone and their mother are reviewing the same bag/shoe/show/line. How much can you really say about a product, one product?? Sure, there are many fabulous LYTs who are great, so I choose my favourites and stay with my most trusted. I don't and have never liked the "what's in my bag" videos. Why doesn't anyone ever have a tampon in there?? I find them to be farcical. Two, haul videos aren't really my style. With some of these hauls I think they return 99% of the items they 'unbox' and seem to project a false sense of themselves 'owning' those things they return. That can be bad for an audience because I don't think most people appreciate how hard it is to keep up a YT channel even if you have no ther work. Luxury is expensive, so when the economy is bad or times are tough generally, those haul videos can encourage low self-esteem. Thanks for another great video!!

You have to take KZbin influencers with a grain of salt. You're watching people, the majority of whom don't really live a luxury lifestyle, pretend they do by buying designer bags or you're watching someone who does not look like a model, model bags. Then there are those who really can't afford to buy luxury bags and sell or return their bags in order to buy more. I watch to see what new bags are out and what features they have. I don't like to see the same bag for which there was already an unboxing in more videos under the pretense of my best bags, my worst bags, etc. It's just KZbinrs trying to make more money off of their videos and is a turn off.

Great video! I prefer old school videos! I watched Lux Purse Love unboxing her LV Wicker Cappuccine yesterday and it was so refreshing to see her so excited and full of joy! Influencer are unboxing things they never use! Brands are their “family”, subscribers their friends and every product they show is the best! Nothing seems authentic, they are like commercials. I have no luxury store near me so I enjoy watching others show their purchases and their reviews!
