I have been holidaying in Charmouth for the past 7 years and go to Lyme Regis everyday while there it’s a wonderful untouched piece of British culture.. pleas go to Beer further along the coastline

Beautiful place, aswith your friend we are regulars at Lyme. That beach you saw from the top of the "cobb" is Monmouth Beach, so called as it was the landing place for the Duke of Monmouth and where the Monmouth Rebellion started back in the late 17th century.

My parents lived just outside Lyme and one day my Mother realised that they were filming on the landslip next to the house for the French Lieutenant's Woman and being interested popped outdoors to have a look at what was going on being a keen theatre and filmgoer. By sheer fluke she got chatting to Meryl Streep who suddenly needed to use the toilet and Mum invited her into the house. Business over they then sat down and chatted over tea and biscuits!

How different it looks when it not full of tourists . Me and my son love it down their . We go from Weymouth to regis and usually use Bridport area as a base . 😁

Used to be all mostly sand that you could walk on as very firm but it changed when they did the new sea defence work- now the sand is by the Cobb as mentioned by James.
