Hey everyone! I’ve been reading through the comments and I see a lot of People concerned about the boys having to share a queen bed. We are trying it out for now. They haven’t shared a bed up until this point. We had twin beds and then bunks. But Bunks get tiresome, so this is a little change. So far they’re sleeping 😉 It’s also what I had on hand. You see, I grew up sharing rooms/ beds at times. And also we hosted tons of visitors growing up. We let guests sleep in our beds. And I’m thankful for that experience. It teaches kids good values. And adaptability. The boys wouldn’t sleep in separate rooms if I made them. They’re very close friends. And close in age. So for now- it’s just fine. And maybe we’ll switch it up in the near future. Who knows 😊.

I haven't read any comments but your's yet, bc I just came to say that I really enjoyed this video/vlog! I would be worn out if I followed you around! I hope the dress wasn't ruined! About the boys sharing a room and bed. I don't see anything wrong with this and at their ages I'm sure they find it fun at times! It's your family, your house, your set up, your kids, so do what you need and want! They're not being harmed one bit! Quite the opposite in my humble opinion!

I don’t comment very much mostly because I watch you on tv. It’s so good to see you speaking up about the way you grew up! I’m much older but we were taught that company comes first. Sleeping with sister or cousins when we needed to. No big deal! We turned out just fine and are very close! Really enjoyed your vlog!!

Love how the light illuminates the picture on the shelf in the kitchen! Perfect spot. You could always get a nice set of bunk beds with a full bed on the bottom. Then both boys have their own separate sleeping areas but guests can use the bottom full sized bed on the bottom. And guests could use the top bunk to place their suitcase while visiting.

True. Maybe down the road. I was tired of bunk beds 🤪🙈

Just wanted to make a suggestion that worked for a friend of mine. They put their boys in twin beds and when they had overnight guests they would push the beds together and put a divider cover over the hole between the beds and put king sheets on the bed. They had one set of king sheets one king quilt from Target and kept them for guests only. I say this because that is what my husband and I did when we bought new mattresses bc we are older and know we will be moving and can’t carry anything but twin sized mattresses. Just an idea you might consider if the boys can’t give you peace about bedtime…
@TheUgliestKitchen Жыл бұрын
I second this. Plus it will make their room feel more like ‘theirs’ instead of a guest room they sleep in.

We are currently doing that for our bed ☺️. Two twins. We had to lay them the opposite way though because apparently they’re not quite a normal king size according to our bed size. It’s better now.. but a bit on the shorter side I think. We’ll see what they say as time goes by.

We found that twin beds for siblings when the room is used for a guest room actually can work best. I've been surprised that couples often sleep in separate beds, or are used to a king, which the twin beds allow that space per person. Also siblings seem to do best separated, if the room can handle twin beds. I had 4 brothers, two per bedroom, and they sort of drew a line down the middle, claiming territory.

Your house is always sooo welcoming. Love the orange art in the kitchen. The suggestions below of twin beds for the boys, would still allow them a space they can call their own, while sharing a room (and particularly works better as they grow older and want more privacy). I feel quite certain most people would not mind sleeping in twin beds, particularly in your beautifully decorated home.

Hi Lynette. With the pavlova, here in Australia, the recipe that I use each time suggests to let the pavlova cool after baking in the oven overnight which makes the outside crunchy and the inside soft. Also when you decorate it, you invert the pavlova so that the base becomes the top. Only decorate just before serving. Here in Australia, pavlova is really popular to eat on Christmas day. Thanks for sharing your recipes and house- it looks beautiful- especially the kitchen and cabinets 😀 👏
@loissaedder2214 Жыл бұрын
I've never inverted it but we used to have it often at a good friend's house when my kids were young (they are 50 and 47 now!). She was the pav queen. Sliced banana and passionfruit on it - yum.

Re: sons sleeping in same bed. Not a bad idea for this visit; however they will soon let you know if it doesn’t work (for now) as they may not be used to another person in their sleeping space ie moving, kicking etc. They will definitely need their own beds as they mature. One idea might be to put a Murphy bed in the playroom or office. We put a Murphy bed in my craft room … it is actually a beautiful piece of furniture and we use it frequently when all our children visit ie Christmas.

Your story about the little bug reminded me of something that happened years ago at the Grand Ole Opry. When I came to Nashville (in 1965) the Opry was held at the old Ryman Auditorium and the Ryman was not airconditioned so in the summertime all the windows had to be left open to try to let a little bit of air in, but when the air came in, little bugs came in also! At that time, Bill Anderson was already a huge name in country music and one evening he was performing and of course the lights were on him and all eyes were on him and a little bug came in through the window and flew in his mouth! Being the seasoned entertainer that he was, he merely swallowed the bug and kept singing and I don't think most of the audience was even aware of what had happened. Can you imagine?

Wonderful video! The bug in the Pavlova made me laugh. I helped set a wedding venue up and the baker brought the multi-tier cake in and got it ready for the next day's festivities. We were setting out the food and realized that ants were on the cake. It turned out they were inside the cake as well, alive and busting with sugar fed energy. The good side of the cake is in photos and the new couple may have found a few unsullied bites. The rest of the guests enjoyed Texas sheet cakes that we quickly put together.

Oh Lynette the first time I made a cheesecake from scratch - it was a labour of love as I’m no cook 🤦♀️ I had it all done and even used a spring form cake pan - I turned to put it in the fridge and i somehow slipped and it went EVERYWHERE 😳😳 it was up the walls on the ceiling 🥹🥹 I was soooo mad and honestly I think I did actually cry a little - but I cleaned it all up and started again and made it - Black Forest cheese cake from scratch - and it’s the one and only time I ever have I think I’m still traumatised 25 years later 😂😂😂 you did a wonderful job preparing for your family to stay I’m sure they will feel the love 🥰🥰 and how wonderful to be meeting your baby niece 💕💕💕

Your cheesecake episode reminds me of when I made a homemade cake,from scratch with orange frosting and after I got finished frosting it to transfer to the cake stand the cake slid right off the plate to the floor. Cake was everywhere....on the fridge, wall, pantry door, and all I could do was laugh and laugh and laugh. I think I called about everybody in the family to tell about my slippery cake.

It's fun to see you prep for guests. We live in an itty bitty cottage so we don't get guests except for the kids' friends sometimes. I'm still getting used to your new house as I am sure you are, too. I actually felt a little sad, missing your first Florida house. Oddly enough, I've been having dreams about my first house when I got married! Must be a nostalgic time of year! Yes, my boys share a room. Our cottage only has 2 bedrooms. Hubby and I are shoe-horned into to 7 x 9 2nd bedroom. The 3 boys share the 13 x 12 master bedroom. We made a bedroom for our daughter in our enclosed porch. It's only 12 x 5, but it's her own space. The boys sharing the room is tough because there's an age gap between the oldest and the 2 youngest. He's an older teen and has a very different schedule than the little boys. But, the mortgage is almost paid off, the taxes are still pretty low, the neighborhood is quiet, very safe, friendly, and beautiful. It's rural enough that I'm tucked between the woods and a farm, but accessible to several cities. I'm only minutes from church and near family.

the pavola is a New Zealand or Australian dish (we can't decide or made up the recipe I think NZ because that is where I am from) - if you make a Pav and cook it - once it is cooked turn off the oven and leave the door open a little bit, once the oven is cold shut the door and leave the Pav in overnight (if you can) and it will become chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside - it works the same with meringues

Yep, Standard fare here in NZ for Christmas and Birthday partys. Doesnt matter if they crack or some times leak a little fluid in the bottom, so long as you have lashings of whipped cream and berry fruit or Kiwifruit on top. Love Pavlova.
