In today's video we show how simple woodworking steps result in great woodworking projects. Even complex and seemingly intimidating projects, when broken down into simple processes yield great results.

Ryobi has a 9" for around $130 depending on where you live.
@BirdYoumans
@BirdYoumans 4 жыл бұрын
@@sheepleslayer586 I tried the Ryobi and it did not work for me. I wound up getting a Grizzly 14" and once I finally got it adjusted it works great. But one thing I did not know with the Ryobi, the blades that come on these things, including the Grizzly are junk. I tried a Timber Wolf blade and it was as if I had gotten a much better saw, so that may or may not have worked with the Ryobi. The blade just would not stay on the tires with the Ryobi when I would try to turn the corners in that thick a piece of wood. Just some thoughts.

Great vid, really enjoyed watching and enjoyed how slow and careful you went on each steps however I mainly wanted to see the complex box being build. I just started woodworking and installed my very first band saw just last week. I want to make a 3 draw box for my wife to keep our 3 children's keepsakes in but not sure do I but the design into 3 piece then make each box or do I just cut out 3 draws out of the design.

usually bandsaw boxes are made out of one block of wood or a single block of laminated wood like he showed but the great thing about them is that you can come up with any design that you like.. just have fun with it

Ok, i have no xp in woodworking, im just acquiring tools for the moment. I do have a bandsaw already, havent used it yet, but i know its about 5" I have something in mind, but ill be a bit bigger. Can i use a table saw to cut the sides (getting one next month). i dont have the precision to make a cut that long with a hand tool, so thats not an option at the moment.

The Baltic birch, for the meat of the box, is there a practical reason for using plywood? Or just more cost effective?

I've never made a bandsaw box and I have a question. When you cut the drawer out of the block you have a cut in the case. what do you do with the cut? I don't see it on the finished item.
@michaelgross8461
@michaelgross8461 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Minella I glue mine back together and clamp it. Its best to make the cut with the grain. That way its less noticeable when its glued back up.
@pminella
@pminella 7 жыл бұрын
Michael Gross I assume you're using a very thin blade then, otherwise the box would look out of shake. We blade do you recommend?
@michaelgross8461
@michaelgross8461 7 жыл бұрын
I use a 1/4" wide blade for doing the turns to cut out shapes. The blade is only about 1/16" thick and the kerf is usually easy to glue. Sometimes the box shape can make glueing back up difficult. Such as the sail shaped boxes from this video. For boxes with several drawers I put the entry cuts on different sides of the box going with the grain.
@LynnLaceyLLWW
@LynnLaceyLLWW 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, great question. That is something I'm going to cover in a followup but you simply glue the kerf up. Put some glue in the kerf and clamp it. Most of the time it disappears. Thanks for the question and for watching.

Thanks Michael for the comment. Hey Peter - What Michael said, my exception is I use either a 3/16" or 1/8 " blade most of the time.
