I live in Indianapolis, and we have some rough equivalents to these areas of Seattle. Lynnwood and Kent are basically trashy hick towns. We have Martinsville and Speedway (home of the Indianapolis 500). I would guess Martinsville is more like Kent, and Speedway is more like Lynnwood. Mercer Island is for rich people with boats. We have Geist. Redmond is a bland, white-bread place where nothing interesting happens, but everyone is affluent. We have Carmel. Carmel is also home to a number of big businesses, similar to Microsoft being in Redmond. Leavenworth is a tourist trap. We have Nashville. It's not Bavarian-themed, but it's in the hills (the closest Indiana gets to mountains). It is full of gift shops and kitsch. Wallingford is for hippies. We have Bloomington, which is a combination of that and the U-District since it's home to Indiana University. Does that about sum it up?

@seanmcdirmid There was no fentonyl Smash-n-grabs were fewer and further between. There was such thing as a freeway off ramp without a panhandler. There was an infinite supply of used car parts in the form of a wrecking yard every half mile. You want a V8 Vega? Give me two thousand dollars and three weeks. I drag my feet. I could go on and on, and on.

LMFAO!!! You are so right! My city (Tacoma) got its fair share of hits over the years, too. Even the East wasn't safe!! Why was this show ever cancelled?? Just when it was going national and everything! Dammit.
@psychochicken95354 жыл бұрын
I don't remember the details, but I think I had something to do with how the money was being split up, because of the syndication. John Keister was making the most, but he was also the funniest driving force behind the show (and I think part owner), so when he quit, the show continued, but it lacked the same level of humor and the audience shrunk.. Then he started The 206 which quickly fell apart for similar reasons. But I could be wrong, if someone wants to correct me.
@MokkaMatti2 жыл бұрын
The worst thing was for it to go into national syndication. It should have remained our special treat to ourselves, a secret handshake, a wink and a nod to each other who knew. The Washington State that I was born into in the early '70s, and have lived my entire life in, is gone forever. There's no way now that a show like almost like what even get to the pilot stage, local TV is also dead; taken over by out of state interests who have imported their unfamiliar on-screen personalities and homogenized content. Bill Gates brought about the end of all that was good here.

@@psychochicken9535Here’s supposedly how it went: King cancelled the program in 1999 (I presume at the end of the 1998-99 TV season) because of a lack of profit (likely because ratings didn’t live up to expectations given budget). Technically Almost Live didn’t continue without Kiester. However starting at the beginning of the 2000-01 season, Kiester would create another sketch comedy series for KIRO called The John Report with Bob (that being Bob Nelson) which aired for two seasons before similarly being cancelled in 2002 also due to lack of profits. And finally in 2013 there was the 206 with Cashman which ran on KING from early 2013 to mid 2015 before being renamed “Up Late NW” for its final season in 2015-16.

@ChristopherStandardTime4 жыл бұрын
your comment was twelve years ago, but ya gotta remember these episodes are from the mid-eighties, which is now about THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. the whole area was pre-ama-whatever, pre-tech boom, and was a big industrial area that wasn't doing too well because reaganomics screwed everything up. so... yeah, lynnwood was like that. a lot of the area was. it's less so these days; lynnwood now has people living there who can't afford a house in seattle but can still buy teslas. fewer pickup trucks, but the trucks that are there are clean and cost $85k. although... money doesn't buy class, but gives the illusion it does.
