I'll be 66 this year and I'll never forget seeing the evening news and hearing about it there. They were supposed to have a concert about an hour from where I live later on that month.

I hear ya. At almost 63 here, they were my favorite back in the day. Of course, we had so much great music back in the 70s, but LS really resonated with me. I was at the Oakland concert with my brother and his friend in 77, about 40 feet from the stage. Amazing show. I was crushed when the plane crashed, much like when we lost SRV.

Man y’all have got to listen to Cry For The Bad Man These boys didn’t play when it comes to putting out bangers It’s almost unbelievable how truly good they really were We truly lost a blessing to music when we lost Ronnie In five short years these guys made some of the best music ever played RIP to the greatest Rockin Roll band in history As long as there’s a way to play music Skynyrd will never dye Some times when I’m listening to this band I think of how much great music we never got to hear because of that tragic day in October of 1977

There is literally not a single bad song on this album. Its all top quality from start to finish and this for me is the best song on it. Pretty sure they recorded it at Muscle Shoals too. Be in no doubt, Lynyrd Skynyrd were the real deal.

Lynyrd Skynyrd had so many hits on the radio in the 70s, I grew up hearing those, but I never had their albums. So I'm finding these other great LS songs along with you! Thank you for that. They really are one of my all time favorite bands. It is absolutely tragic what happened & that they weren't able to go on really. When Duane Allman died, the Allman Brothers were able to continue & they went on to make great music after he died, although you can never replace Duane. But your lead singer dying is really tough. A/C D/C did manage to keep going strong after Bon Scott died, but it's rare.

Same boat. I was 3 months past my 17th birthday and just bought Street Survivors the day it came out, which was 3 days before the crash. It’s the one with the flames on the cover which was changed shortly after to the picture of the band with a back black ground featured on the back of the original album. I still have it. It came with a red insert TOTS (Tour of the survivors) schedule. I looked it over and was all set to see them when they arrived at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto listed on there, which of course was not to be. Devastating.

You are right it hurt badly went the plane crashed as I was in high school at the time and big into music especially southern rock with them my favorite band behind The Stones.
@EddieDumont-ny1gt3 күн бұрын
Funny you should put Skynyrd behind the Stones as far as your favorites. Skynyrd did the same venue with the Stones in the mid 70's and blew the Stones off the stage. The Stones sound great on record's but they're a let down when you see them live where as Skynyrd is the only band that went overboard with their times spent rehearsing the songs on their set list's to the point that they sounded better live and the Stones were known for not putting on a good show live, that is Mick's fault because he sounded terrible live. But hey, they both created great music.

Though there was only one original Lynyrd Skynyrd band with Ronnie on vocals, still when the band regrouped in 87 with his brother Johnny on vocals & 5 original members Ed King, Gary Rossington, Leon Wilkinson, Billy Powell, & Artimis Pyle they did justice to the original music plus the released new music beginning with the album Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991. The lineup changed over the following years & I know they have released at least 8 albums of new music as well as numerous live albums. I know many diehard Skynyrd fans are critical of the latter versions of the band, but there is something to be said about carrying on the music for newer generations. Gary Rossington the last original member passed away about a year ago & the band still tours. Hey bands change & evolve & I consider it Johnny's band since he has been fronting them for almost 40 years. As well Ricky Medlock (on guitar) was with the band in the early days before they became well known. If you check out any of their later material I suggest their 1997 album Twenty (anniversary of the plane crash) or their 1991 album. As well there is an awesome version of I Need You on their live 1987 Reunion tour album. Peace! & You guys are the Best
