Legendary music executive #LyorCohen joins N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN on #DrinkChamps for an insightful dive into his pioneering career and big visions for the future. He goes in-depth on discovering DMX's genius and building Def Jam into a hip hop empire in the 80s/90s golden era. Lyor also discusses his entrepreneurial success with 300 Entertainment, passion for fighting cancer in the black community, and responsible preparation for AI's impact on music.
With plenty of never-before-heard stories spanning from Run DMC to Jay-Z, he provides a rare insider history of hip hop's evolution from subculture to global phenomenon. Lyor offers hard-earned wisdom on assembling championship teams, balancing art and business, as well as the importance of social impact.

Blame the artist for not managing their money right. Y’all say stuff like that but look how many artist actually took advantage of the money they made in music industry, like ice cub, snoop, Jay z, Dr Dre, Eminem, 50 cent. Don’t blame the guy who gave them an opportunity. Blame the person who blew their money and didn’t invest because they thought the money would never dry up.

Those are the artists these corporations are mainly trying to target but it affects all artists sooner or later. It’s simple, people create music for other people to hear them. I tell people all the time. Redman kept the the lights on a little bit longer. Warren G kept the lights on for good. No artist wanted to 🤬/sign with Def Jam for a few years. Redman signed with Def Jam and produced two Gold albums, then a platinum album.

Been waiting for this interview since I learned about Lyor Cohen....been waiting three to four years for this. Thanks NORE. Want to state that I don't believe Lyor Cohen is a culture vulture, or a racist or out to exploit blacks. I like him and think he has helped the hip hop culture and black community alot. 1. He gave a lot of black guys from the hood, who were high school drop out, drug dealers and criminals an opportunity to do something positive with they lives, he made them executives, record label CEOs and millionaires and put them on the map. 2. He contributes the most to the hip hip culture. Big ups to him, anyone who doesn't like him is bias and prejudice because hebis white. Like Eminem he is one of the greatest rappers, anyone who says otherwise just has an issue with him because he is white. Before anyone says he exploits blacks, P Diddy, Dr Dre, Suge Knight, Jay z also make rappers sign the same deals he makes rappers sign, and send out the same message (drugs, women and violence)...yet no one says a thing. Why is it an issue when Lyor Cohen does it. I am a big fan of Lyor Cohen. He has a great career which I admire and he did great things for the music business.
