Excellent tutorial! Sounds like you are an intermediate lyre player. I am a newbie researching lyres and harps and much of the information available out here is from professional lyre/harp players who seem to have a hard time remembering when they were new to the instruments, thus have difficulty translating basic information to novices. This can be overwhelming to us but your tutorial has helped immensely. Your information about posture and tone quality is invaluable. Thank you!

It's always a help for me to know if the information shared is of use to those it's intended to aid. And I think it's probably accurate to affirm that I am an intermediate lyre player. I am certainly by no means a professional nor an expert on the instrument, but I have worked with it for a while now and though I don't have formal training in the lyre, I do with classical piano and that has been a huge help in picking up the lyre. Will you still compose for the 16 string lyre,although you now have a 19 string one? I love your music. Mine is a deerhead 16 string lyre. I'd like to build a good repertoire for her but I'm scared of being limited by so few strings. I hope you will keep composing for the 16 string lyre ❤

I'm currently working on another album and found it a bit too tempting to not use those two higher strings (B and C) especially when I've got it tuned to C major / a minor. But what I've done is added alternative notes in the sheet music when it goes higher than a 16-string has available which has thus far only been a handful of notes. So the songs are definitely still playable and lovely for someone who doesn't have the 19-string. I will definitely keep this in mind though! And I bet when I've got the tuning a little different, the song will naturally stay within the 16-string range. I am certainly sympathetic to your fears about the string limitation though... It took me some time to let go of trying to play styles and ranges more akin to the piano (I don't have experience with the harp) and to enjoy the uniqueness of the lyre. Ended up calling for me to be creative and curious in ways I hadn't been before. I hope you enjoy it just as much as your other instruments!
