Lyric Opera of Chicago performs the national anthem of Ukraine

This weekend we opened our production of Puccini's TOSCA, beginning the evening with the national anthem of Ukraine, as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all those affected by the ongoing war.
As an organization that works with artists from around the globe, we are deeply mindful of the escalating crisis unfolding in Ukraine. Beautiful!!! I would love to hear Ukrainian Classical Music performed by your great orchestra. They have more than 50 symphonies by various composers, hundreds of chamber and choir works. That would show the real support of Ukrainian beautiful culture. Composers like: Silvestrov, Stankovych, Lysenko, Revutsky, Lyatoshinsky, Kolessa, Skoryk...only few of many.

A moving tribute. Seeing the name of Lyric Opera of Chicago reminded me of back in 1970 when our dance studio hired a new receptionist. She had a very regal manner about her, and always wore her hair in an updo. Her story was that she was the divorced wife of a Presbyterian minister, but before that she was a professional singer. She actually successfully auditioned for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, but was told by her minister husband-to-be that performing on stage was improper behavior for a minister's wife. Twenty years hence she had to be satisfied with taking a receptionist job and singing in a church choir.
