Hi..karthick..i have been setup a walsted/ father fish tank..its running successfully without water change for past 3 months..just i am doing topup water...fish are super active and healthy..i wish you to explore those things and try it out..since we need not water change ..it will helpful for some people...i used potting spil 2 inch at bottom ..and 3 ro 4 inch of river sand to cap the soil..

Discus Pair 8k. Tank 4000. Ultra clear tank 12k. Plant 500₹ Sand and ADA soil 10000. More than that discus is high sensitive fish. Food and all costly Maintenance is hard. 3-5 days once water change required. Need 3-5 feet tank for discuss and light background.

Additional info - It grows very slow if we give food in limit. If we give more food everyday we need to keep changing water more. It can survive without food for like 6 months also which i personally tried. Maintain best cannister filters to keep them healthy. For chennai temperature no need heaters. But if at all the fish is not healthy provide heater with 30 degrees for a week and fish will be healthy. I had only 2 fishes initially. Slowly i learned them. Food is too costly for these fishes so if u want them to grow in big sizes u need to feed more 3 times a day, weekly 50% water change is fine. I use sunsun cannister with few medias. Initially use bare bottom tank to understand them. Water gets polluted more easily because of the food items, so obviously get high quality food for them. Best filter media gives the best life span for these fishes without more maintenance. Always get these fishes from breeders and not from sellers. And if you are a newbie buy 3-4 inch fish and not below that. Take more time to process your tank and filters before buying this fish. This is the main thing for keeping fishes healthy.

@@marutheeshsai8578 not mandatory bro. I usually do water change in 15 days once. But when I feed BHM i will do weekly once. This will try to avoid much of internal diseases in fishes. I don't know about top filter as well bro. Discus don't like water falling from top forcibly. It will become stressed. I believe cannisters have good media and lot of space when compared to top filters.

I don't feed live feed often also wtr top filter I keep the water level to maximum so that the fishes don't feel the(pressure) water pouring from top + I don't have space for cannister. I assume when you mention water change you change 20% or 50% water right? Another doubt do you used carbon in filter media bro ?

@@marutheeshsai8578 no carbon at all. I haven't used that bro.and yes water change is 20-50%. If weekly I do 20% and if 2-3 weeks I do 50-70% water changes. And 2 months once I use dewormers..

Bro I'm a beginner. I started with discus fish only with proper guidance. I started before 1st lockdown. Then during lockdown i was not able to maintain. But my fishes survived. Used to change water 45-50 days once. Not much maintenance it was required. I usually change water 10-15 days once 50%. Will give healthy and quality foods always. I never faced such issues.
