I think a shout out is needed for Edward af Sillén who wrote and created this performance. He’s the writer for Melfest, wrote the scripts for Eurovision 2013 and 2016 in Sweden (including the iconic Love Love Peace Peace) and as far as I’m aware the scripts for the recent additions of You Decide, and it shows. He’s truly a master script writer for these type of entertainment shows and an absolute genius when it comes to musical pieces with his wit and creativity (you can tell if Edward is in charge). I had the honour of meeting him last year at You Decide as he came to chat with some of the fans and was the most humble man; asking what we thought of the show and whether it was funny. The BBC would be very smart to try and get him to work for them on a regular basis (I know he’s very well respected but those who know him and is friends with Graham Norton), but he is pretty loyal to SVT so I can’t see that happening. ANYWAY, Edward (as well as Mans) did a great job with this and deserves the recognition!!
@nashathegleek6 жыл бұрын
I wanted to put this out there as well everybody is rightfully praising Måns, Edward deserves credit for making the show entertaining amongst the bland and uninspiring songs the BBC chose (nothing against the talented artists, but the songs they’ve were given were awful...the BBC needs to sort themselves out)
@MrMusicMan19736 жыл бұрын
@@nashathegleek I completely agree with everything you've just said and this doesn't surprise me. I've already had two rants elsewhere on KZbin tonight about the BBC's lack of interest so I'm not going to rant on again but suffice to say the BBC really do need to sort themselves out or the EBU needs to give either Sky or ITV the rights - a broadcaster who'll put the effort into picking a decent song. I do think Michael Rice was the best of the bunch but realistically, we all know in advance that we're going to get hammered the minute Europe starts voting because no one knows him (not even the Brits) while we all know in advance that Russia will either win (or come top 5) because they're going to be represented by a major worldwide star even if the song he sings ends up being absolute shit. Anyway once again, well done to Mans and the equally talented Mel Giedroyc plus a big thank you to Edward af Sillén for at least making the pre-selection enjoyable.

AND beyond all these great accomplishments there's the fact that Edward is Brazilian. As far as I know, he was born in the state of Santa Catarina and adopted by a Swedish family when he was quite young, but at least I can have some pride being an ESC fan from Brazil.

He also tends to do the live comments of the Eurovision finals, even the Oscars. And the fact he knows a lot about Eurovision means he can easily write something like this. But I doubt, he living in Sweden, he could deliver a full show with the same comedic touch as he does with Melodifestivalen, for the simple fact that he lives in Sweden, not the UK, and therefore will not have much to spin jokes around - except anything related to Eurovision. But there are plenty of great comedic writers in the UK who easily is of the same standard as Edvard, but who also have the inside knowledge of British society, current affairs and popular culture to deliver something similar to what Edvard delivers for Melodifestivalen, but better adapted to a UK audience and setting. The one you really should study and copy, because he is the guy who has been in charge of Melodifestivalen for donkeys years now, an era when Sweden has performed better than any other nation in that competition, is Christer Bjørkman. He is the guy in charge of everything from selecting presenters, and writers like Edvard, to deciding the running order of the songs, and also have a say in how they are selected and presented. Melodifestivalen is a huge success mainly for two reasons: Bjørkman`s dedication and enthusiasm for the competition - and for the fact the acts that do well in Eurovision will secure their artists gigs for the coming summer, thanks to the many summer festivals around Sweden. The problem for the UK is that it is not the major players on the music scene who takes part. They have to much to lose, so the UK keeps sending either hasbeens or new comers, and the songs are not penned by the Cathy Dennis` and colleagues either, but far more unknown and less merited song writers. Had it not been for the big 5 rule, UK most likely would have been knocked out of the semis every single year, with the exception of Blue and the Andrew Lloyd Webber song that came 5th the year Norway won with Alexander Rybak and Fairytale, over the last 10-15 years - and Blue had international help and a solid fanbase to help them, and Andrew Lloyd Webber is Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Måns Zelmerlöw is a great example! Måns Zelmerlöw, the Swedish singer and songwriter, has indeed dark brown hair and eyes. According to his ancestry, his maternal grandmother was of Italian descent, and his paternal grandmother was of German descent. His parents are both Swedish, but his father's family has roots in Eastern Europe, specifically in Poland and Ukraine. In Sweden, people with dark hair and eyes can have various ethnic backgrounds. While many Swedes have a Northern European genetic background, there are many exceptions. Here are some possible sources of dark hair and eyes in Sweden: 1. **Italian-Swedish**: Many Swedes have Italian ancestry, particularly from the southern regions of Italy. This is due to historical trade and cultural exchanges between Sweden and Italy. 2. **German-Swedish**: Germany has had a significant influence on Sweden's culture and language, especially during the Middle Ages. Many Swedes have German ancestry, which can contribute to darker hair and eye colors. 3. **Eastern European-Swedish**: As mentioned earlier, Sweden has a significant Eastern European diaspora community, particularly from Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Many Swedes have ancestors from these regions. 4. **Refugees and asylum seekers**: In recent years, Sweden has received refugees and asylum seekers from various parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. These individuals may have darker hair and eyes due to their ancestral origins. 5. **Genetic admixture**: Genetic studies have shown that there is significant genetic admixture between different populations in Europe, including between Northern Europeans and Mediterranean populations. In Måns Zelmerlöw's case, his dark hair and eyes likely come from a combination of his Italian and German ancestry. However, it's also possible that he has inherited these traits from his Swedish ancestors who may have had genetic influences from other regions. In general, people with dark hair and eyes in Sweden can have diverse ethnic backgrounds, including: 1. **Romani**: Some Romani Swedes may have dark hair and eyes. 2. **Italian-Swedish**: As mentioned earlier, many Swedes have Italian ancestry. 3. **German-Swedish**: Germany has had a significant influence on Sweden's culture and language. 4. **Eastern European-Swedish**: Many Swedes have ancestors from Eastern Europe. 5. **Mixed ethnicity**: Many Swedes have mixed ancestry, reflecting their complex cultural and genetic heritage. Keep in mind that ethnicity is a complex and multifaceted concept that encompasses not only biological ancestry but also cultural identity, language, religion, and other factors.

Haha, the real funny thing: the UK song, which ended bottom up this year, was written by the Swedish singer who ended in the top!!!!

Oh my god that's Mel Giedroyc. It took me 4 and a half minutes to realize, and she's completely different from who she was on Taskmaster

UK 1983 Sweet Dreams - I'm Never Giving Up, is one of my favorite UK entries. This was really fun and Måns is great.

The 1997 winner of Eurovision, Katrina Leskanich, comes from my home country of the United States! Proud to have her representing the British! I think Måns would do well over here! We have many of your British celebrities here, why not a Swedish one? lol

Y'know I still don't think Heroes should of won over Latvia, Belgium, Norway, Estonia or Italy but without Mans winning we wouldn't have Petra and him in 2016 nor him presenting here.
