I actually played this at my Grandpa's funeral last summer. I barely got through it, but it was the perfect song to remember such a good man. I wish I had let him listen to M. Ward when I had the chance, it's the kind of soulful music he would have appreciated.

Favorite m ward song. Makes me cry when I hear it as it reminds me of my best friend and cousin Isaac who died in 2007. God bless m ward and all who appreciate his music

I love the message. I know he wrote it about his elderly father, but you could apply the message to anyone who's lost a loved one, even if the lyrics don't particularly describe that person. The song is not weepy or overtly sentimental. It's just a simple message. A matter-of-fact message. A let it be message. It actually put a smile on my face when I first heard it and thought of both my dad and mom, both gone.

Well he stomped with his feet And he clapped with his hands He summoned all of his joy when he laughed It suffered all of his joy when he cried And sometimes when he got into talking Man he could rattle on and on He was a good man and now he's gone Well in war he was a tiger When it was over like a dove He summoned all of his strength in the climb It suffered all of his strength in the fall And sometimes when he got into talking Man he could rattle on and on He was a good man and now he's gone He put his trust in a higher power He held his power like a holy grail He summoned all of his faith in the lifting It suffered all of his faith fail His heart was stronger than a heavy metal bullet And that's why I dedicate this song He was a good man and now he's gone His heart was stronger than a heavy metal bullet And that's why I dedicate this song He was a good man and now he's gone

JJ is a king of guitar, his lyrics are some of the most touching and aesthetically potent words to be sung...ever. and that can be said of M. Ward just as much, these two need to tour. I saw Mward last night. They both rock, you should check some brushfire fairytails

A person on a messageboard introduced me to this on IMDb (I made a thread basically asking folks to introduce me to some new stuff since I have a very eclectic music taste that pretty much includes every general genre.) I favorited it before the song was even over. :) Love it.
