It is a myth that Apple products are overpriced, and I suspect it is due to the anti-Apple mob repeating it that people get brainwashed. That was definitely the case a while back, but evidence now suggests that it is nonsense. I saw a video from Ben Kaiser that showed that over the last 10 years, Mac prices have risen less than inflation, whereas Windows machines have risen much faster, Dell, for example, by 80%. Of course, I am comparing premium Macs to premium Windows, not cheaper machines aimed at the mid-range market.

A couple of years ago I bought a refurbed base M1 Air from Apple and love it. It has never been used. It ijust didn't function properly off the assembly line and was pulled and fixed by hand. It comes with the full warranty and full Apple Care availability. It is also fast and has never slowed in the least no mater what I use it for. This is the best bang for the buck I have ever gotten from any computer and my history goes way, way back.

@jefferyakakpo4904 Honestly, I was worried also. Especially seeing as Windows is all I've ever known. I watched tutorials on my PC, which I've kept. My Mac is purely for being mobile and music. I followed along with KZbin videos and read some stuff. And tbh it's been pretty easy to transition. You just need to set some time aside and put your head into it for a few days. I'm around a week in and already finding it easy to navigate around the basics. Obviously, there are loads of things I don't know. But, I'm enjoying the process. My Macbook blows my Co.puter out of the water 20 times over and back again. When my PC does perish, I won't be buying another. I'll just convert the Mac for desktop use by buying a separate screen.

I've been lifelong windows user but considered switching as i need portable device that never fails, has good battery and quality - i was choosing between 14" and 16" pro models until i have seen the discount at my local shop on the m1 air. It's all you need. Im using it for everything (mostly webdev) and couldn't be happier with the choice i made. 8GB of RAM is definetly not a whole lot, but its enough for almost everybody. The software doesn't start really slow, the videos doesn't freeze up or lag when your trying to watch something, unlike my previous Windows laptops I had those last few years I like this upgrade better.

@@Roffesr6 surprisingly good actually. It’s at 96% battery health and 110 cycles. I often use it plugged into a dock, which is why the cycle count is quite low. When I do take it out and about, it lasts for hours and hours, especially if the brightness is under 75%

instead of buying an M2 MBA, I bought an M1 MBA and a 27" 4K HUB monitor. this setup cost almost identical to a single M2 MBA. I connect my monitor to MBA with using a single type-c cable, and it also supplies power to MBA, so I didn't use and even didn't unbox the charging adapter-cable of MBA. my monitor has 4 USB ports and an ethernet port, so I connect peripherals (such as mouse dongle) to monitor, and it works perfectly fine. only one cable does everything I need. the monitor is perfect, MBA is perfect. and the best part of this setup is, it's cost effective.

The original M1 Macbook Air is truly a wonderful daily driver. It can even do some video editing, music production, graphic design, and much more. If you need a high-end laptop for engineering or other specific tasks that take major power then go with a PC laptop, but make sure you have good cooling. If you need something for super high-end video, music, graphic design, coding, and other professional tasks then the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 with M2 chips are fantastic or a comparable PC Laptop. ASUS has some great models in this area as well. If you are a gamer there are powerful gaming laptops but make sure the cooling of the CPU and GPU is top notch. Otherwise top gaming systems are better built as desktops (PC) where you can use the best chips and GPUs and you can cool the heck out of it. But for a daily driver and sort of do everything laptop in a thin and light format the MacBook Air M1 is truly a game changer. The M2 Air is even faster though cooling was not done as well and I think Apple will fix that.

Good timing. Typing this from the M1 Air, which I've had for about a year and a half now. It's funny because the message that prompts you to clear your RAM just started popping up for me yesterday. 30 Chrome tabs, Slack, Photo editor (without any edits running), Finder - that's all I had opened. And now it started slowing down after I tried using Photoshop generative AI (on Chrome). So, I'd say spring for the 16GB variant if you can. If you also need more storage, then I'd look for an M1 MacBook Pro, which will be a much better laptop overall. But apart from the RAM thing, it's been the best value laptop. Unmatched.

Personally I like the wedge shape of mine and I don't know if the 16 gb makes any difference but if you're going with an air model the 8gb will deal with anything these are designed for. I maybe fell for Apples "just another few hundred dollars you can have this!". You won't be disappointed either way. Cheers

And honestly I'd only buy the 15" for the larger screen, BUT I have a 27" external monitor that I can attach to my MacBook Air, and bam, I have a large screen! I don't always want/need a bigger screen, so when I don't I just unhook the external monitor and I still have my amazing and very portable 13" MacBook Air! I will use this laptop until it dies!

I got a base m1 MacBook Air in dec 2020 on a whim as my first Mac cause the hype and my Dell died. Wow.. it’s been amazing. My only regret is not leaving Best Buy (who didn’t carry 16gb RAM) and ordering online. Would have been worth the $200 for the extra fast year or two I’d end up getting four-five years from now. My use case is like most-5 tabs on safari with different streaming sites, iMessage and maybe crossy road or something. It’s never slowed down. Day one I tested iMovie to see if it slowed, it did not. It’s unlike the older MacBooks with Intel CPU’s.. it’s quick and no fans and just miles less choppy and clunky. If you can find new for $750 still; worth every last ¢

My sister got an M1 MacBook Air, the base model, in Space Gray, on a Presidents' Day sale at BestBuy. She's a school teacher who uses it all the time and she absolutely loves it. I finally got the M1 MacBook Air that I've been wanting since it was first announced in 2020. I got it in silver because that's the standard color for the MacBook Air. I'm convinced that this is the pinnacle of MacBook Air design. It's everything the 2014 MacBook wished it could be except it was hobbled by that pathetic intel Core M CPU. I doubled the RAM and the storage because that's me. I tried to get it refurbished but Apple sold the one I picked out from under me before I could place the order. I had to get mine new, which meant I had to wait for them to ship it from China. This thing is wonderful. Heck, the M2 MacBook Air doesn't even LOOK like a MacBook Air!

Just bought the basic M1 13 inch at costco canada for 1089 Canadian, Aug 14 2023. The Apple store after taxes and warranty was $1954 for the M2, this one was $1440 for warranty and taxes in so 500 dollars less than M2. but I still wanted the M2 and the silverlight colour scheme, I wrestled in my head and took the 500 dollar cheaper option.

that docking station is bout the same as apple tv with the ethernet port. id recommend that for a 2nd monitor, no cable directly connected to a mac and u can use the apple tv fr smart home/tv reasons when u want.

The M1 Air is a great buy and a great machine, but to call the other MacBooks overpriced is subjective, 3, 4, 5k for a MacBook Pro might sound expensive, but if its for work its a tool and can pay for itself. I’d argue that the Max chips in the Pro’s is actually incredibly good value considering what you get.

I got the base-model M1 Air, around 2 years ago, a bit after it was released, I do love the laptop, but I'm at the point, where I'm about to upgrade to the M2 Pro 14" , with my degree being centered in Cybersecurity, I do need more CPU/GPU power, and I like the bigger display with the notch on the new models. After looking at the M2air the M1 was an easy choice for me, The M2 offered little more with all the same limitations for much more money and the new shape isn't an improvement whatsoever. Even two years later, M1 air is no brainer. Better SSD speeds (base variant) and better heat management than M2 air with 200$ less price. Just saying take the 16gb version as 8gb will probably fill up due to some ram hungry apps nowadays. Peace!

@@JerrySchulze no, i'm from brazil. MBA 8gb RAM and 256gb here on apple store costs more than 2000 dollars because of taxes. It's impossible here to buy on apple official store, we buy just on authorized resellers where is costs 1000 dollars at least (for the most basic model). Imagine how would cost a 16gb RAM model 🤣🤣🤣

I can't help but wonder if they're going to be supported for much longer since they are moving to the apple silicon. My 2017 macbook pro is already out of support for new MacOS versions. Do you think them being on their own hardware will let them extend support for the 2020 models out for longer?

Even if apple drops official support, unofficial support will keep it on the latest macOS for as long as is still reasonable. For instance, the 2012 can still be unofficially upgraded with OCLP. That is unless apple moves away from Metal GPUs.
