M1 Tank Platoon (PC/DOS) 1989, MicroProse, MPS Labs

A very encompassing game that allowed players to issue orders to Tanks, AA units, Aircraft, Artillery and Infantry in a campaign against Warsaw Pact units in Europe, while specifically controlling a platoon of 4 M1 tanks. The player could jump into the position of the driver, gunner or commander of any of the tanks to view the world from a 1st person perspective, or work from a tactical map to command all his forces. Characters in the M1 platoon actually increased in skill as they survived battles.

I remember seeing the box for this game come into the local computer store. I begged the owner of the store to hold it for me until I could earn the $25 he was asking. After I bought it, I then begged him to use one of his cutting-edge 386's to install and play it on. I spent hundreds of hours there until I managed to buy a 486dx266, which I then installed this in, and played until I lost the "A" disk in a move. Thanks for the drive down memory lane.

Loved it when all your tanks were tracked/disabled but not destroyed and you could still win the game by commanding the support units like Helicopters to still win the game.

This game started me on my Army career when I was in middle school. Got to Command tanks in combat.

I played this on a 8088 IBM-XT with a green CGA monitor before I got a 386 and VGA. Imagine how slow everything moved from point A to B. The graphics were top notch during its time.

I remember playing this on the Amiga using the preset tank platoon Bills Bombers. I retired the platoon after 100 battles and only 4 losses. Epic game, never will be forgotten

Do you guys remember being attacked by the Soviet SU-25 ground attack aircraft in this game? It made a menacing sound when it fired but never seemed to do any damage! I used to enjoy blazing away at it with the .50 cal machine gun but unfortunately because of the jerky gameplay I could never get a proper bead on it so never managed to bring it down.

Aaah, nostalgia...! Loved to play this game as a kid (even though I had no English knowledge)... Glad my old man was such a nerd for military stuff (especially airplanes)... xD

It would be soo cool to see a game like this is a museum like the flight simulators that you can turn upside down lol like you can get in the driver seat,gunner and commander seat and all work together! That would be amazing

Anybody have the VHS that came with the game? Talked about HEAT, anti aircraft systems, different armor types, different types of soviet tanks, panthers and tigers, and so on. How they're different, how fast they go, what their key weaknesses were. Was a great VHS.
