Those underground tunnel sections are pretty impressive-looking FPS action for 1987!

snozzlehead92 yes, plus the real-time interactive map and items. Incredible ammount of work put into this title. Absolutely incredible game.

@@EvilKris The only tier game to this one in ammount of real time item interactivity would be 'Force 7' in my opinion. That thing was unbelievable at that time. Role playing management at it's finest.
@DonPeyote4208 жыл бұрын
Wow, this game was pretty ambitious for its time, it has a nice variety of levels: a side-scroller, an early attempt at first person shooter, a point-and-click element, a rail shooter... It's pretty neat for '87!
@eriksaari44302 жыл бұрын
elite and ultima V were far more impressive. it's cool for a shooter though

same here , i think i might have got to the tunnel level It's amazing how many of these games are 20 minute games, and most of us where stuck in the 1st 5 minutes of them

Damn i love that underground music! Music composer really nailed it here with tense and atmospheric music. It's amazing how composers managed to produce such feelings with very limited resources. Amazing!

O M G! The fabled tunnel sections, I never even got that far. I got to the village hits but never into the tunnels, when you are 9 years old in the 80s, C64 games seemed so difficult! This was the best in the "Hollywood" pack that came with the C64. The other games seemed impossible, Great Escape looked good but I had no idea what to do & Miami Vice involved the car speeding up & crashing straight away!
@PJMartin Жыл бұрын
My Miami Vice never loaded properly. It always crashes out loading. And top gun was dull. I did like The Krypton Factor though.

Although I haven't played or seen it for decades, I still remember every single detail of this game! I know every screen frame by frame and I can tell easily the way through the labyrinth in level 1 (the jungle). I always liked the variety of the level design and I think level 2 (the underground tunnel system) is the most thrilling one. I remember that I've beaten the game only once as a kid (I never finished the night shooting at the end of level 2), but that was some moment!!! Brilliant game - and hard as f%§k (at least for my 10 y.o. me)!!!

And here we could have had an awesome Sergeant Barnes boss battle with a grenade duel. Nope. We just get a thorough napalming and then putting an evil jerk out of his misery. Interestingly enough, the NES version had the actual ending part with Chris Taylor saluting a staff-swinging Rhah from the chopper as it takes off and the credits roll.

Hahaha. I remember being 8 or 9 years old and being dumped by the prettiest girl in my class. The only music that could express my devastation was the "game over" score at 18:06... Unbelievable score with such limited technology.

I remember getting the 2nd level as a stand alone game (Blaze Out?) for the light gun with the 'Light Fantastic' C64 set. I just sat there aged about 6 or 7 watching my Dad playing it and kicking ass at it. My Dad is 65 now and smiled when I reminded him about it. 8-BIT and 80's computing will always make the best memories.

I had the NES version of this game, and I must say that it was difficult as all hell. I got as far as the Dugout. I can see a few differences from the NES version in this game. For starters, the enemies leap over the booby traps in this version, 2nd, you can change soldiers in this version, and 3rd, i think that it takes 3 hits per solider to die in this version, whereas it takes 4 in the NES version. Those are the differences between the two games that i can recall.

I got Platoon from that club where you would buy 4 games for 25p and then get sent a full-price game every month? I may be wrong on the odd point but they always advertised in Zzap 64 or C&VG my Mum would always go mad and write to them saying I was only 13 and to stop sending games as she wouldn't be buying them, I think I at least did it twice over the years got the stupidly price games at the start and then I bought one game Platoon with my New Barclays cheque book.
