@@Thinginator it's not sleeves, rather it's the actual material structure of the engine block. Think of it as a coating not necessarily a sleeve. Mercedes reliable engines are always the ones the same time are what mercedes uses in their factory race cars. The v12 was excellent because it was being used for racing. The same way the 4cyl in 80s was or the inline 6. Now that small displacement is the focus that they can add electric motors too the most impressive engine they build is the 4cyl turbo that the cla and a class models get.

Great video as always dude, M120 was and still is a fantastic peice of mechanical engineering. As we're a lot of the 90's engines, but the M120 by far has the best sound with equal length headers. But even right down to the humble M111 that engine can almost double it's hp if you don't keep blowing headgaskets, then the M104 around even before the Toyota 2jz but just as capable without major modification a 3.2 m104 with rods and headbolts/studs will see 800+hp. And then you have the M119 again a boostable v8 that with minimal work will produce great results. Mercedes really put effort into all its engines if the time period for ultimate reliability (even if a few Victor reinz headgaskets tried to end that early) this is why I like my 90's Mercedes cars so much, even if occasionally things do go a bit wrong normally they're easy to fix. 👍

Yes, I hear you. I have a 1994 SL600, 389 hp. 85,000 miles, love it when it was problem free. We've all read that such a Elite brand as Mercedes-Benz, they used biodegradable engine harness? They should be ASSAMED of that. They should recall and change ALL of those, even from that long ago. Mine visually look good, but???? Check engine, ASR and RSR lights have been on as I try resolve problem. I've been lucky to have access to a perfectly running other 94 SL600. So one at a time, swapped Throttle bodies, MAF sensors, no change, and other car ran fine with mine. As well as the 7 computers on pass side. So I'm puzzled being my engine harness looks excellent from the top. I wish I could know for sure if changing the engine harness would solve the problem? If I knew, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated . PS: I did take it to a Mercedes-Benz Dealer on West end of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to diagnose. They did, said because it's old, their computer wouldn't communicate with my car. ? So the suggested in writing, they'd suggest changing the 2 Throttle Bodies, & engine wire harness; & then "we'll see" Lol, WHAT??? & then we'll see? So on the written estimate from that time, about 2018, the 3 parts alone were $14,000. Was hoping to get an accurate solution suggestion. So 2020 is when I tried the other cars Throttle bodies. Eliminating that possibility at Dealer would of cost close to $10,000. I'd sure like to see it problem free again, as I believe it is something simple ???

@@TheMervK I have a '91 600 SEL and I feel you, man. Definitely change the whole wiring harness. You can't diagnose anyrhing with a bad wiring. At least check all the conexion to know for sure that there are no shotcuts. I replaced my wiring harness and now I'm pretty sure that with new MAFs it'll run okay. The wiring was completely destroyed and the bad signals literally fried the MAFs and the EGAS module (which I prevously replaced). If you have any doubt don't hesitate to ask me. You can also check the Benzworld forum which has tones of info. Good luck!!

@@E34Benzin thanks a million. I thought I'd remove engine harness and give it to a person I know who is really good with electronics. Ask him to check each wire current, etc. Perhaps make new with using same connectors. Think that's worthwhile or just try find one as I asked a Dealer here recently and I believe they aren't available from them any more. Probably the next wise step.
@E34Benzin2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMervK No problem! I got my MAF wiring harness from Kurth Classics UG. The specialist can remake the wiring with high temperature resistant cables, but the connectors must be open to replace the bad cables inside. You can't rewire from outside the connector. The wiring diagram is pretty straight forward once you figure it out, but working on the ECUs area is not that easy. The connexions to the ECUs should be made at the pins or near them with fresh cables to avoid shortcuts. NLA from the dealer in my area neither, but anyway it would be crazy expensive. 😅

respect to the old Mercedes Benz (1950's-1997), the King of design, mechanical engineering, class and style. the current Mercedes is shit
@andrewbarton85252 жыл бұрын
So from what i have researched over the years...it goes a bit more like this. Bmw had a 16 valve straight 4 ...the first m3. Mercedes went to Cosworth to get a 16v head for the m102. Thus the 190e 2.3 Cosworth with variable valve timing on the inlet and 7500 rpm limit. A few years later BMW came out with a 24v straight 6. Again mercedes needed a competitive engine. They took the cossy head, expanded it by two cylinders and came ou with the M104.980. as the blocks were the same between the M102 four cylinder and M103 six it was just two extra in the middle. So the m103 sic cylinder with an extended m102 Cosworth head became the M104.980. i had one in a 300TE-24. Red line on ly seven seater estate was 7500rpm. The later engines designated m104 were a Mercedes design. Less revs, more reliable and in tune with mercedes philosophy because they produced less power but a flatter torque and maxed at 6000 rpm. Those early m104.980 engines are dimonds now that the head gasket issues are solved. But they are rare. Worst of all, the ignition timing units were a fudge on the V8 units. They cost a fortune now and were ...um...tender. a new one from mercedes? Last time i asked ...4 years ago...2500 euros. Non cat and on 98 octane, 240hp. Lovely engine that cries like a banshee over 4500.
