@johngwheelerАй бұрын
@@77drisApple uses normal LPDDR5X chips on the SoC package - they don’t AFAIK make their own RAM modules, and buy them from other manufacturers. The memory controllers are part of the SoC die though. The differentiator between Apple Silicon and DIMM modules is that the RAM is physically closer to the CPU/GPU cores and is shared between them. The actual memory is nothing special, but Apple charges a huge amount for it.
@MrPerrisC26 күн бұрын
Good point, and RAM cost them less than anyone, their markup is monstrous, but I do want to clarify beyond marketing. Apple RAM is not on system chip, (SoC), it's RAM on package, that's why Apple can offer differing amounts of RAM per user order. RAM on package/die, is still faster than most RAM, (not socket LPcamm2) . AMD still doesn't have RAM on laptop package, but OEMs solder ram anyway For laptops, Intel is now RAM on package for no good reason other than trying what Apple does to get RAM sales when selling laptop CPUs LPCAMM2 is socketed, thinner and faster than RAM on package, but only dell offers lpcamm2 as my last look, and it would only be for desktops and AMD laptops Sadly, "unified" is simply marketing, apple renames "shared" memory as "unified", they correctly rebrand tech for their own marketing and it's well done, my point is to provide knowledge and is not criticism, it's admiration for how well they manipulate those repeating what they have to sell The actual benefit from Apples' shared memory, unlike other players' igpu, Apple gives near equal access both to cpu and gpu, typically, previous CPU philosophy is to limit top amount igpu uses to a few gigs I believe AMD is following Apple's lead somewhat, not equal RAM share but allowing users to decide how much RAM iGPU can access. But "unified ram" is just shared ram, it's just a branding thing

The thing is that the base M4 is not really targeted to professional users. Yes it still has very good hardware and you can do some really heavy tasks with it, but you have to see it like an upgraded version of the macbook air, with a better display, 120hz refresh rate, better and louder speakers, bigger battery and much higher performance overall, which will also make it more futureproof. This way, the answer is pretty easy: are you a professional who has to do very heavy tasks with their machine? Buy the M4 Pro or Max. For all the rest of people, the base M4 is more than enough and will satisfy 99% of consumers. You don't need to spend more money for a huge jump in specs if you'll never really make use of it.

Longer battery life on basic tasks, I feel the base m4 pro is like an air 15, a tad smaller but with better screen, speakers etc. Look at your use cases carefully, its not all about performance. After order arrival, fortunate to get trade in credit $705 for M1 MacBook Pro w/ 32GB RAM, 512GB disk in good condition; thus the upgrade to 3 generations of Apple silicon isn't that expensive. My needs of such specs include web development using IDE w/ plugins, local web server, background script processing continuous tasks, and running docker of multiple servers (database, memory). Reviewing docs and testing would use tens of browser tabs. The system runs smoothly running together with daily apps like email, music or video player and office production apps use most of RAM w/ barely any swap. I returned my standard. Ordered a nano texture. Its just easier on my eyes for reading. With regards to marks and stuff. I plan on getting applecare plus and see how it goes. Ill still becareful with it. But not overly careful. Hence the base m4 for my needs. Costs less. Supports my usecase, a portable machine for youtube and light surfing to kill time when outside. Im not gonna worry about anything else. Applecare+ insurance should just let you enjoy and use it as is.

@@youknownothing3766 Do you think the the minor color reduction should be a significant reason to go with the standard is if a MacBook is your primary media consumption device. When I saw it in person, it didn't bother me put I could tell something was slightly off. Or maybe is was just my mind saying "how good this is"
@youknownothing3766Ай бұрын
@@EdaTheOwlLadyFan94 it wasnt off by much was what I notice. It still looked incredible. I have always known that nano dulls the colours a little. I owned a m1 pro MBP and studio display and purposely didnt get nano on the studio display when comparing them in store. But the new one on the M4 feels different. I played both the LG Oled video on store on 2 macbook pros. One with nano one without. The colour difference wasnt as profound. It was close. But the nano display anti glare sold me. It was so much easier on the eyes. I dont have the best of eyes now given 30 years of using computers and being in IT. The whites on nano are dulled. Which suits me, the full bright whites on a standard can feel burning at times. Id suggest you go try it out and decide, plus consider your use cases. I will be taking the m4 mbp out a bit, so nano makes sense as my environment where I use it can vary in lighting.

Thanks for the comparison! Can you please make a comparison of the Mac mini M4 Pro 12/16 vs M4 Pro 14/20? I’m not sure if I should go with the 14 cores and 512 of storage or 12 cores and 1TB.

Love these M4 videos. I would really like to see some focused on RAM and more business use case. Not everyone uses Macs for A/V work. People in our company run a lot of different applications plus a lot of browser tabs across multiple virtual desktops. We crunch numbers and do data conversions on large files in the command line while in the aforementioned tasks. M4 Max 36GB or M4 pro 48GB?

With all the Apple Intelligence stuff coming, will 16 GB of RAM be enough in the next few years? The RAM upgrade is the main reason I’m considering the M4 Pro, as the price difference isn’t significant if I were to opt for 24 GB on the M4
@SkaratakАй бұрын
As long you can disable those AI gimmicks, we should be fine even with 16GB. I think for the next 5 years at least, as long you dont run heavy programs at the same time (like I do with Blender, Photoshop and DrawThings, I really need my 32GB)

Thanks 🙏🏽 Max for making this video. I’m just going to pay the extra $400 for the M4 Pro. I’m coming from the 2019 MacBook 13” i5 Intel Processor 🤦🏾♂️ I know y’all. I’m way behind haha. Is the M series silicon chips really worth the hype frfr?

Great video! Is there a chance you’ll do a video M4pro vs M4max? Or even 14inch vs 16inch. This will be my first laptop purchase, and I’m undecided between a 14 or 16 inch. Any recommendations?

When discussing music production (e.g., Logic Pro), could you also comment on the amount of fan noise generated by each computer model? We home-based music production people oftentimes use our computer inside the recording room, thus, computer fan noise is a factor. Thank you!
@tbirdparisАй бұрын
Logic Pro only uses P cores for audio processing, so that's why the difference is so marked between the M4 and M4 Pro Chip. And also, yes the chart is labelled incorrectly as many people already pointed out.

There's an error in the slide on the Logic Pro X Maximum Tracks - it shows 240 for the M4 and 140 for the M4PRO. Opposite of speech and reality :)

NObody has done the M4pro 14-CPU, 20 GPU vs the next one M4 Max 14 Cpu, 32 Gpu, where the 1s option can do 48 Ram and the second only 36, so the question is, for us Photographers, some video, Adobe LrC/Ps will do better in the 1st one with more Ram, or on the second one with less Ram but better Gpu?

I don't edit a lot of video, but i often edit low light skating photos with DXO Pureraw, the. ON1 or Capture one and then with Topaz Photo AI. Currently have a 13 inch 2020 M1, but planning on a new Macbook Pro during the Black Friday sale. Still trying to decide between a 14 with the M4, M4Pro(12), and 16 with M4Pro(12). My last 15/16 inch Laptop was the Titanium Powerbook, so I’m not sure whether im ready for the larger platform or not. Hoping your videos and an apple store visit will help. Has anyone purchasec a 14 or 16 and wished they got the other? If so, why?
