Hi, Jose Mohan I was listening to the conversation with the young lady. I will share certain things with you. I been in us for 47 years. Before that 4yrs.in Germany. Any where you go you will experience some prejudice including India. When it comes to English, you be yourself. We do have an accent, as long as you speak slowly and clearly by articulating your words, you are OK. You don't need to imitate Americans. Malayalee accent is not that bad. If you don't understand some one, you humbly say ' would you please repeat it, I didn't quite get it'. If one speaks fast , you can say ' if you don't mind can you speak little slower, so I can follow you '. The best way to learn any language you can watch children 's education program Be humble to take correction from others and repeat after them. Don't feel shy to talk to people even if you don't know how to speak. You will learn from your mistakes. Always to try to converse with children.
