@ Josh Howe - very well said. Deep "Throws" don't correlate to victories. Every play is "Situational Football" personnel/ down and distance/ goal to go / FG to Field Positioning. Micromanaging is must in today's NFL because there are alot of ex-NFL elites, who micro-critize. My only firm stance is that you do not draft CB's in the Top 11 picks (unless they are also return specialist or you plan to return with them)

I often times think NFL talent evaluators and developers could learn a thing or two from the MLB. In baseball it was thought for a long time that you draft hard-hitters and teach them how to work a strike zone. Teams have realized more recently that it is actually easier to coach and train strength in a swing than it is to coach working a strike zone. I definitely think this could apply to QBs in the NFL. For some reason it's gotten into the minds of people that you can't coach or train arm strength. Yes, you can! Some QBs will never be great, but I think it's easier to coach that sometimes than it is accuracy, anticipation, or reading the field

@@michaelmurray5868 And Tua has been throwing a ton of deep passes these last few weeks. They also said the same thing about Tannehill. Then all of a sudden he became one of the best deep ball QBs in the league. Then our shitty fans ran him out of town, blaming him for all of our problems, when our problems were a lack of a run game, sub par defense, terrible oline, and shitty coaches. I said the entire time T-hill was here (I was a true believer and massive fan) that if we got him a legit RB, fix the oline and defense, and get a coach that knows what the hell he's doing and we would see Tannehill and the entire team take off. I said Tannehill was a top 10 QB with top 5 potential and got laughed at. It was no fluke that our only playoff appearance with Tannehill happened the 1 good year that Ajayi had in him. And had T-hill not gotten injured, we had a legitimate shot to shock the world that year. Now, they're doing the same thing to Tua when his numbers clearly tell another story. Had he not gotten injured, we would definitely have won at least 2, maybe 3+ more games. And these last 4 have shown that we are a completely different team than the team that started 1-7. Hopefully we can win out and make the playoffs.

The narrative had been set leading up to the Draft and it remains to this day. Yes, Mac Jones doesn't have a cannon for an arm but his arm is good enough and he showed in college that he can throw the deep ball. He's shown it his rookie year as well when he's had the opportunity as well. The thing is, the guy is a rookie and so Belichick and McDaniels are going to be cautious with him and have him not lose the game - especially when you have a top-5 defense and a top-10 running game. Besides, the Patriots passing offense is predicated on short to intermediate plays in the middle of the field and they don't have the personnel on the outside to throw it deep. Make the throws that are there to be made and continue to keep the offense in manageable situations.

It's because Jones had the easiest job in college football, and Trevor Lawrence ceiling is far higher than Mac Jones, but Jones has been good, but I do think this video is kind of funny as none of the throws shown are throws that require a strong arm, just throws that require accuracy and precision which is what Jones specializes in. But the narrative that he has a weak arm is true when you compare it to other QB's but that's not a bad thing. He's just accurate, but he is now getting a bit overrated like how Brady was overrated early in his career.

@Brandon Cabrera that's pure nonsense. There were plenty of throws here that rookies usually just don't make consistently. Hes great under pressure or sitting in the pocket. You say his ceiling isn't as high? That's funny because it sure does appear to me that his intangibles, accuracy, poise under pressure, ability to read defenses, ability to make throws outside the numbers, (something "MVP" Lamar still can't do) and even throw accurately downfield would indicate his ceiling may be as high or higher than a guy who just has a cannon for an arm lmao. It's not just the "narrative that he has a weak arm" that were talking about. Its all these clowns saying the ball won't come out of his hands nicely at the pro level, his "pea shooter" arm can't get the ball downfield, and they will have to compensate for his lack of natural arm talent and blah blah. I'm damn sure not a Pats fan but this kid has proved everyone wrong thus far, even the haters and nonbelievers like yourself. People also underestimate the potential difficulty of throwing short passes. They're safer in terms of time in the air and QB pressure, but WRs are much less likely to be on a blown coverage and/or be able to create a lot of separation, have acres of space to potentially be in, and depending on where you're throwing it to, it's more likely that there's more defenders in the area to work around. When you condense the space of the play, you also condense the area defenders have to cover. There are obviously plays built to work around this for the open field, but especially when you get to the red zone, short passes can get truly difficult. Throwing it deep will sometimes result in pinpoint accuracy needed, but it's just as likely that there's a yards large area you can throw it to and be ok. There are some tradeoffs to keep in mind, that's all I'm saying. It's harder to be pinpoint accurate down the field, but you HAVE to be pinpoint accurate in the short passing game.

As a highschool qb I can easily say it’s harder to throw a 10 yard slant route than a 25 yard seam down field because on the seam the receiver is able to adjust to the ball but on a slant if you don’t lead them on perfectly it’s incomplete. Also it’s easier to be accurate when throwing parallel to the direction they’re running in rather than perpendicular.

After his Pro day (Belecheck was there) this is what Mac Jones had to say. "“In real football, you just want to complete the ball,” Jones said. “At the end of the day, hopefully, I did show my arm strength. I can throw it 65 or however long they need me to throw it, but in a real game, it’s all about being a passer and not a thrower. I just wanted to show off. I mean, I already did one pro day, and it was fun. So come out here and sling it deep a little bit and let those guys catch some balls. It was good.” I remember what it was like being a tutor. You build knowledge in the people you work with. You let them learn pieces at a time. Ask any teacher, grade school to college, what happens when you throw a ton of information at a student. Some gets absorbed, most information will not. It takes constant repetition before it's really learned. That's the problem with most of these teams. They get these high draft picks and expect them to learn everything all at once. I like Belicheck and Danial's way. - Start with a smaller playbook and expand it as the easier parts are perfected. I expect to see long balls at the end of the season. This fits with Belecheck's style anyway. Don't worry about September and October, worry about what happens in November, December and January.

When you say that Mac Jones can only play a short game, you must have missed the Chargers game highlights. The interception on the long ball in the Falcons game was as a result of the receiver turning into the defender instead of turning away and shielding the ball with his body. Perhaps a throw to the receivers right shoulder would have been better, but that comes with practice. Mac throws the receiver out of danger first, reception second.

Brady career has had on slightly above average accuracy. What makes him HOF worthy is that he takes what the defense gives him more than almost every QB ever. At the same rate, he was certainly molded by the system he was in, and if he has to create plays on his own he is a mediocre QB which means he is dependent on his systems being great to be great. This can be said for most QB's though because I believe coaching is a very underrated part of football for QB development, but still Brady will never be one of the top QB's ever because he is far too dependent on great systems. He is a system QB who is a great system QB, but when forced to make plays that require skill as a passer, he is average.

While I agree that the Mac Jones narrative re: arm strength was clearly overblown, I feel as if the measurements given in this video are misleading. Typically when discussing deep passes in terms of 20 yds, we are referring to yards from scrimmage, not yards from where the QB dropped to. If you drop back 20 yards and throw back only to the line of scrimmage, it is not considered a deep throw. So a lot of these passes (maybe most, I didn't actually tally numbers) are intermediate throws, not deep throws.
