Did you tried with DaVinci Resolve denoise function? I have the first MacBook M1, it is fast decoding and encoding the EOS R5 HEVC 4K-HQ videos, but the noise reduction kills it, the Mac Pro still a little bit faster in that, but don't know about the Mac Studio.

Even though this video is from a year ago, you more or less answered my own question about keeping my 2013 Trash Can Mac Pro for another year or not. I upgraded to 128Gb of RAM, with an 8 Core processor and have no problems with my current workload. All I need to do now is upgrade the OS past OS X to either 11, 12, 0r 13... something I'll be doing in the next month or two. Thanks for this video. I don't edit video, but do music production and book layout and design... everything I need a computer to do can be easily accomplished with my 2013 Trash Can Mac Pro... at least for the next year.

why would you "turn on" the Mac everyday with the power button? the awkward power button designed that way because it is not meant to be pressed everyday... most of us, Mac users, put our Macs to sleep and just wake it up with a touch of a keyboard or mouse

Got 2 trashcans with max specs for cheap for Audio production with Logic Pro X , Cubase 12 and Studio One 6 and they rock! Fast, solid, stable and compatible with all plugins. I can use up to six thunderbolt displays with each for next to nothing! Crazy 😊

It wasn’t a fair comparison :) With the price of a Mac Studio, you can get a Mac Pro 2013 with a 12-core processor, D700 graphics card, 128GB RAM, and a 2TB SSD. Then, upgrade it with an external graphics card since the Mac Pro 2013 supports this. Next, install Windows, combine the two graphics cards for a single powerful setup, and overclock the processor and graphics cards. See how the difference turns out then; they will be neck and neck :) And according to some rumors, even a 24-core Xeon processor works on the Mac Pro 2013. By the way, with OpenCore, Sonoma can also be installed, and you can even play games on it. By the way, a 12-year-old MacBook Pro still has its advantages. Despite its age, its biggest benefit is its very low price and nearly limitless upgradability. With an external graphics card, this device can really fly.

This video brought back nice memories. I had a 6 core 2013 Mac Pro with the D5 GPUs, that I upgraded to 64GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. I really liked that machine, it was beautifully built and rock solid (none of the overheating issues of the D7s). I sold it last year and ultimately ended up with an M1 Mac Studio Max (the base model). Huge increase in performance, I'm really enjoying it.

not fair to the Mac Pro since the most powerful one has the 12 core cpu - he only has the one with quad processor which if you had the 12 that 3 times its power. but cool review

I've had mine for about 2 weeks - same as yours. I run Studio One Pro v5 and all my drum videos in DaVinci Resolve and its a BEAST!! Only 15-20% CPU usage on average. I don't have as many tracks running but when I render a song with plug ins on every track (20+, big drum kit), its around 10x faster than the song compared to my old PC w/ 32gb and an SSD was 3-4x faster and the M1 Mini that I had was 6-7x

I heard it’s good to leave your computer sleeping instead of off and on all the time. Turn it off once a week and then just let it sleep all week just tap mouse or keyboard to wake it up

same. I was confused when he said he turns on and off. I make a keyboard short cut to sleep, and press any key to wake my Mac up. sometimes, it's good to do a restart from the Apple logo. I haven't touched the power button in a while.

6 core 2013 Mac Pro instead of the 12 core is no good comparison to the Mac studio. Get hold of a maxed out 12 core 2013 with 128GB ram. D700 graphics or even an eGPU.

@@transitengineer thats where these Mac studio boxes really suck is on the GPU cores. they get maxed out easy. and Apple won't allow you to use an external GPU. so your stuck with an awesome CPU but mediocre graphics compared to a PC with a high end discrete graphics card

U never said which mac pro 2013 u used...was it the 12 core 2.7 or the 8 core 3.0 or the 4 or 5 core 3.0-3.7ghz? The single core vs multi core benchmarks are kinda all over the place with the different versions. I think the 6 core use to sell new w a $1500-$2000 upgrade option to upgrade to 12 core.

I currently have a 2013 Mac Pro w/128 GB of RAM, D700 Graphics Card, 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor. It was doing great until I gradually switched to shooting and editing 4K footage this year. I edit using DaVinci Resolve now and I think the smoothness in playback of their BRAW files had me fooled until I got some h.265 files on the timeline. I am considering upgrading to a Mac Studio, I just have to plan out the adapters for my monitors which are HDMI and MiniDisplayPort and RAID Drives which use Thunderbolt 2.

Hey Colt, love the content. Any particular reason why you didn't upgrade to the 64gb RAM? I'm currently running my project music studio off a 2014 mac mini, which at times is a bit of nightmare, so I'm looking to upgrade to the mac studio base model. Do you think 64gb would be overkill for someone who mainly works with audio and 32gb is enough to future proof it for a reasonable amount of time?
@ColtCapperruneTech
@ColtCapperruneTech 2 жыл бұрын
Personally 32 GB is more than enough for what I do. I’ve been operating for the last eight years on 12 GB, so this is a massive upgrade to what I’ve been running forever. I think if you were doing film scores, or music with primarily virtual instruments you might consider upgrading. But outside of those scenarios I don’t think I’m going to hit the limit in this machine.
