I remember changing the knobs on my Boxster 987, cost about £7 for the two. Saw a vid on KZbin on how to replace them, simple, and they were exactly the same as the Porsche ones. Does make you wonder if a lot of this stuff is made in China then sold at much higher prices through the dealership. I agree totally with you on Boxsters, they are fantastic driving cars. I’ve sold mine recently, one bill too many😂

Bear in mind that Porsche does not make radios. So trace down the real manufacturer and buy your knobs from them. Much cheaper.

Not sure what VAT is… but 2x28 is 56 not 48. 😂 maybe the price shock affected your arithmetic… wise decision to fill up the Macan before setting of on the trip… is the KIA still stuck on the continent somewhere? 🧐 😅

Not a Brit here, but I think it is Value Added Tax... Here in the Colonies we might refer to it as a tax on tax
@ultimobici.Ай бұрын
@@louispaparella5766LOL!! It’s the same as sales tax in the US. Difference is prices are displayed including VAT. That way we know how much everything is in advance of choice.
@IceAce1Ай бұрын
I was taxing 30 each and got anxious whether his first 28 statement is including tax. 😅 Display prices are incl. tax in the UK as well, but invoices often show one tax total for all line items only. I'm gonna call it tax on tax from now on. That's just so much more logical. :)

Great video. I have completely lost touch with what Porsche has on offer, since real Top Gear ended in 2015. Maybe some bits and pieces in early Grand Tour, but you are now my replacement Porsche information channel. Getting used to the new name on the other channel, Boat Gear? Yacht Stuff? I’ll catch on eventually. Thanks for all the great videos.

Dude, you are just killing it with the vids from both channels. Huge thumbs up! 👍 Edit: I'll guess 10 Sterling for each knob.

Hello, I regularly watch the yacht channel. I’m a 911 owner. I’ve got a 2013 911 convertible I bought new. The reason for the comment is that I drove a Cayman and I was very impressed. In fact the Caymans have the same motor and transmission as the 911 and the Cayman has better weight distribution than the 911. Anybody that thinks the 911 is superior to the Caymans or Boxsters should drive them. Love your videos!!!!
@D992Ай бұрын
Well said. I have a 981 BS and it is a superb drivers car 👍🏼. Cracking video pal - keep up the good work 😊
@simonelliott5956Ай бұрын
The cayman is a supremely capable car and certainly not inferior to the 911, it’s just different. I love my 911 for its driving experience too. it’s the rear engine layout that gives it the characteristics that make a 911 like nothing else, even after 60 years.
@richardharrison6993Ай бұрын
As somebody else said at the end of the day you’re happy that’s what counts. There’s always a lot of naysayers out there. It’s just a matter of luck when you buy used vehicle. In the end, it looks like a great vehicle. Great video thanks for creating.
@skiingfast1Ай бұрын
I really think if Porsche wants to remain premium, it needs unique to the brand screens, vents and switch gear. The stuff you see and touch. But in particular engines beyond the block. Of course the body will always be different, but the driveshaft, turbos, radiator and that stuff you don't see matters less.
@helmuttdvmАй бұрын
Porsche used to care about quality, now it’s about profit. Aircooled 911 timing chains lasted much longer. Everything you buy from them now has the well known ‘Porsche Tax’ on their parts. Also best to not have service done at the Porsche Stealership, plenty of of great independant shops out there.

I'm all in on Audi and Porsche. Those I buy are always used and from their respective dealerships with a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) warranty. I bought an Audi A4 allroad some years back knowing my daughter was going to drive here in Canada. She did crash it into a snowbank at the end of my driveway during the last winter storm of 2022 and that cost CAD$4,500.00. I bought it knowing it was safe, an absolute tractor in the snow if you know what you are doing and was the right choice. Its warranty runs out at the end of October this year. Still has less than 80,000 km on it and that warranty is valid to 120,000. Its going in for an inspection next week. No issue to pay for maintenance as that is key to avoid disastrously high repair bills. I've decided to keep it out of warranty as I know its history and there are more drivers coming up to use or abuse it. Really enjoy your channel and the good advice you offer. Be well.
@peterwoodhead2569Ай бұрын
Your right about the warranty, but get the Porsche backed Main Dealer warranty, we have it on our Macan roughly £700 per year if you don’t have the recovery option, in my opinion about the only good value item you can get from a Porsche Main Stealer.

I used to drive a BMW 732 and the switch for the nearside rear window stopped working. As the switch was made by Bosch I went to a Bosch dealer where I was told that they are only being sold through BMW main dealers. The BMW man sold me one but the price was about £27.00 if I right remember. Back in 1991 that was quite a bit of money
@CoolHand273Ай бұрын
I hate to say this macan in the states was rated highest in cost of ownership by consumer reports. gotta google everything before pulling the trigger. a lot of used euro cars are lemons to be pawned off to people who can't afford to buy them new under warranty. I guess when you come from the boating world any car repair seems manageable and affordable.
@clifbradleyАй бұрын
Doesn't really matter what you spent on your car...it's your car! I've seen people take a hunk of crap 240SX that was rusting apart and literally held together with welded pieces of bracing. Then painted black. They throw a Honda K engine in it and a turbo way too big. Get every Spoon part they can. Paint the engune bay yellow and get blue hoses, cords, and caps if they can't get spoon stuff, and then they roast other people's builds. They will 100% rag on the guy with the Ferrari 360 Modena and made the floppy paddle gesture. They trash the 430 Scuderia that their car would beat it in the ¼ mile. The guy with the Huracan couldn't afford an Aventador, the guy with an Aventador couldn't afford the SV and the guy with the SV couldn't afford the Sterrato. The guy with 911 Turbo S couldn't afford the Dakar Rally. On and on. I never listen to anyine ripping on cars anymore. There's always something out there better than what you got no matter what you drive. But at ,east yours isn't financed or falling apart. And if it does, you can afford to fix it.
@chrisnewbold9876Ай бұрын
Your Corsa comment at the beginning was right. Car manufacturers don't make everything, much is bought in from suppliers who provide the same bits to other brands. If its got a non Porsche/BMW/Merc part number on it, search that first - I've found BMW parts fitted to Toyotas that came in at one tenth the BMW price. The spindles those knobs fit on are likely the same size on loads of cars, eBay is your friend..

That tactile rubber coating started to appear 20 years ago. We used to buy container loads of PC Mice with this finish and in time the coating breaks down making them impossible to use, however, there are a couple of solutions. 1. Simply wipe the knob with alcohol and then matt black paint them, sounds like a faff but in reality it takes just a few minutes. The other is to have them scanned and then 3D printed. This file can then me made available worldwide for anyone to print. In all of this you might loose the legends but who cares, you know what the knobs do.
@dodweldАй бұрын
Sticky rubber coated knobs can often be cleaned using “baking soda”. Simply make a paste with water and rub the stickiness off 😊
@gregoryward93Ай бұрын
I am told the stickiness can be also be removed with a makeup remover pad.

Have had Porsches, Audis, Mercedes Benz in the past, they are pretty poorly made. These days I drive a 14 yr old Lexus LS460, and nothing goes wrong. Costs me about 100 pounds a yr to service, 200 a yr to insure.

Maybe they need to have the oil changed twice as often. Ever thought these 12 month oil changes might be to suit their finance dept? Wouldn’t mind a bet their engineers would recommend 6 month oil changes for long life.

The way you described it, I was thinking $180 ea.!😅 $74 US for two specialized radio knobs doesn't sound too extreme these days as they likely make these in small quantities as it's not a highly sought after part, especially if it's a one off for the Macan! 👍✌😎🗽

Shouldn’t really be using your mobile near a petrol pump (unless you have an intrinsically safe mobile!)
@peterwoodhead2569Ай бұрын
This is actually nonsense phones can’t generate the energy required to create a spark, the car itself, the starter motor, switches, alternator and static charges etc etc are capable of creating a spark big enough to ignite fuel vapour and it doesn’t happen because the air fuel ratio is extremely unlikely to be right for an explosion to occur.The reason for not using a mobile at a fuel station is that in the early years the phone signal messed with the connection between the pump and the kiosk and so this myth was created to stop that happening.

VW and Porsche have always been linked BUT never in the way since VW turned things around and did end up aggressively buying Porsche against Porsche' wishes... be under no illusions things are not what they were when Porsche was an independent company and a focused sports car maker... Porsche has become an umbrella brand (like Seat, Skoda...) with all shenanigans that finance boys do on the background for all things the 'customer can't see'. A Macan, a Cayenne they are made by Porsche / VW but in its essence they are NOT Porsches... and the way their second hand prices sink it just shows it...and as well.
