256 GB storage is not relevant unless you just casually use. For working purpose just go for 512 GB. You still need that internal storage for applications which external hard drive unable to store. Memory swap RAM & SSD is not bad. If need more performance, just go for Macbook Pro.

Depends if this is your casual everyday laptop with some work then 256 + external ssd. If this will be your work laptop than at least 512

Nice. Straight to the point. Am planning to learn to code and iOS development later with this. And this is my first Mac. My friends were like get a 256GB and then an 1TB Samsung T7. 512 upgrade costs 20k here while 1TB T7 is just 11k. And they also said that we can keep apps on external SSD too on Mac since they are mostly single file package. But now am leaning a bit more towards 512Gb

I dabbled in a little youtube, and i am planing on get more serious in making contents. I am also a student, I currently working with the 6th generation ipad with an amazon keyboard. I don't think there’s any performance difference between disk space's models; The only thing that really bothers me having an external SSD is when I travel or I want to move everywhere with my laptop, that's why I'd suggest more SSD space on your first purchase

Larger storage usually has minimal proformance improvements but they tend to tapper off past 512/1tb Usually the biggest improvement is between 30/60/128/256 & 512 Itd be max 3/8%

@@haku4841 I've also heard there is a better lifespan difference for the SSD between 256 & 512 because of how the M1 uses the SSD. I'm mostly gonna be working off an external SSD to save Podcast files onto that, and then writing/browsing and doing very light gaming. Do you think 512GB would be more beneficial or would the 256GBSSD do okay with that kinda work, lifespan wise?

@@tomh5501 late reply but if you got a 16gb ram, you shouldnt worry about your ssd's lifespan since it would rarely use swap memory as compared to how much more prone you are to run out of ram on a 8gb which leads to more swap memory.

256gb internal is still a insanely inferior amount of space for softwares that requires to be installed on the system, android studio also takes several gigs, visual studio, having to work with files with several gigs too, is very important to get an external ssd to carry with you, but you still need some files to be on the internal ssd in case you missed your ssd or a dongle

256gb version shouldn't even exist, apple is such a dork for that move, but anyways, you missed a key difference, 256gb version has 7 cores instead of 8 cores of the 512gb version
