I upgraded to the 15 inch Touch Bar, 2.9GHz w 512GB storage from a late 2011, 13 inch. Needless to say... what an upgrade! Love the keyboard (oddly)/retina display and the slate grey is gorgeous and the envy of all my buddies! 6 months in, I'm gassed. After hearing how the 2018 model might shape up I am excited but can't see myself upgrading for another 6 years. These MacBook pros are getting rather spenny

I had a non retina mid 2012 13 inch Macbook Pro and i just upgraded to a Retina 2017 15 inch Macbook Pro, and i havent had any problems what so ever. And I absolutely love my new computer, I needed a new notebook because I’m starting in a graphic design education first in august, and my old MacBook wouldn’t do me any good on those demanding graphics tasks that is needed. But i will definitely consider buying an eGPU on some point, i think its a really great thing you can boost the graphics externally. Exiting technology.

I have the same. I also upgraded my RAM to 8GB and my HD to 500GB SSD (Samsung EVO) and it's blazing fast again (for me, anyways). But I find it can't keep up with my photography habit now and inhibits me from forming a videography habit. I want a new MBP for the processing power. Social media, streaming, surfing and MS Office all run smoothly and it boots fast enough. Airdrop is iffy with "modern" devices due to an old bluetooth adapter. It's going to be tough to give up the MagSafe adapter (but there's a dongle for that). I've replaced the battery once ($300 Canadian, ouch) and I am due to do it again with the amount of cycles on it, making the case for a replacement. (I also have spilled a whole glass of water into the keyboard...works just fine! Love Apple's build quality. A younger HP laptop for my wife couldn't lasted less than 1.5 years once the power supply gave out. Replaced it with a MacBook Air.)

The port issue is not an issue. I had thought the exact same thing, however, I then purchased a 15" 2017 Macbook Pro (CPU upgraded and 1TB SSD), along with a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 hub. Now, my Macbook has only one cable going to the hub, which also conveniently charges the Macbook too. This means, unlike my mid-2015 Macbook Pro 4th Gen i7, which had a load of ports, it only has one cable coming out, however, the mid 2015 always had 3 cables minimum connected; power cable, ethernet via a dongle and a usb cable to charge my iPhone. Belkin gives me 3x USB Ports, DisplayPort out, 1Gbps Ethernet, 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports, 2x 3.5mm jacks. You can also daisy chain the hubs together which means you still have only one cable coming from your Macbook Pro. Conclusion: Macbook Pro 2017 15" + Belkin Thunderbolt 3 hub = Winning

chris lecce I prefer without, but the with touchbar is the roughly the same as the base 2017 one. You get a touchbar, roughly same speed, and more ports, but I’m not a touchbar fan. All up to you.

Great video! I haven't seen such a detailed comparison between the 2016 & 2017 MacBook Pros anywhere else! Well done! Now with both Coffee Lake & Cannonlake processors being just around the corner, do you think Apple will again refresh the MacBook Pro in October/November 2017, or will they wait until February/March 2018? I think the latter is much more likely, and I'm hoping for Cannonlake! I'm holding off until the next refresh cycle because the updates are worth the wait for those of us who want a reasonably future-proof laptop. The new processors will reportedly support: - Up to 6 USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports - 802.11 ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi - Bluetooth 5 - 32 GB DDR4 RAM - Potentially improved battery life, especially if Apple goes with the smaller, 10nm Cannonlake Do you think these 5 updates are likely in the next MacBook Pros? PS - I would also absolutely love to see: - 1080p FaceTime Camera! The current (very outdated) 720p one has been around since February 2011, and we already know the iMac Pro will get a 1080p camera - More color options - Matte Black on a MacBook Pro? 2015. I won't upgrade until they make a higher resolution display. The Dell 4k laptop panels are beautiful and apple needs to step up their display game. We've had the same resolution since 2012.

I recently bought a refurb 2016 MacBook Pro from Apple directly, coming from a Razer Blade 2014, it's faster in some regards, but not GPU. The major differences are the ability to use MacOS and Windows, the Trackpad is miles better, the display is staggeringly good, and the battery life is easily 3x longer. All this in a more portable, sleeker design makes it nice to use.

The 560 is not a new gpu its just a slightly overclocked 520 with 2 more CUs

Efe B. The 2017 without touchbar has a higher Geekbench score than the highest 2016 model, depends if you really care about the touchbar. I went for 2017 without touchbar it works really good!

thx but the touchbar version has more ports bigger speakers and a touchbar I would go with the touchbar version I think

The non touchbar version has the same speakers, so only difference is the touchbar, also take into account the touchbar version will have less battery.

Do you really need 4 USB-c ports? You can buy a USB c hub which provides all the ports for you. Up to yourself but your buying an outdated processor. I would save up and buy the 2017 touchbar, I've read kabylake also has better battery.

You don't talk about the replacement of the SDD storage... is the SSD soldered or glued on ? I was looking for this info on both models.

Great vid ! I watched the whole video. I upgraded my laptop last December to the 2016 version 15" i7 2.6 but with 512gb ssd and am very happy with it.. I haven't had any issues with it. My previous laptop was the 2013 rMBP 13". Also I've just got the new 2017 iMac 5k i5 3.5 with 1tb ssd, 64gb ram and better graphics over the last model I had which was bought in April 2015.. So I am happy with both machines so far!

Great video but skeptical at the end when talking about don't get a 2015 MBP but the new 2017. Can you give me any good reasons why the new MBP is the way to go. Tomorrow I have to decide on what to buy a 2015 MBP with 128GB but can expand storage with sdcard and have all the ports I need (plug my iPhone, Fitbit watch... for charging or sync, doing video presentation, printing with wired printers... no dongles need) or a 2016 MBP 256GB for $300 more or a 128GB MBP 2017 that cost $60.00 more than the 2016 model? Help me decide!

+steve suard 2017 definitely. Ports will remain the same. USB-C is the future. Thunderbolt 3 is incredible if you can use it to its full potential. You can also use 5K monitors (LG UltraFine). KabyLake vs broadwell or haswell on the 15".

The main problem with the Apple product is the PRICE. And this new Apple Macbook Pro 2017 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM model price is high enough to think twice before you buy. And you're saying that 2018 model will come with 32GB RAM model would be better so it is worth to wait. So now assume the prices. It's gonna highhhhh or not. what do you think? Still should I wait for 2018 model or 2017 model is better to invest, coz it gonna be One Time Investment so... Thank You :)
