Macbook Pro GPU fix-Macbook pro late 2011 15 inch

After watching Steve’s video, I called him to get more details. He told me how to order the special part, which took about 10-12 days for delivery from Holland to Michigan. Once I had the part, I packed up my useless 2011 MacBook Pro and shipped it to Steve. Three days later, I received my Mac back. Steve had soldered the special part onto the motherboard of my Mac. And now, after two years, my Mac works again! Steve is “the Man” to see or call if you have a 2011 15” or 17” MacBook Pro that doesn’t work properly because of the faulty Radeon Graphics chip. Brought my Macbook Pro into Supamodz a few weeks ago and you fixed it! Thank you man! Nobody would fix it. First I brought it to Apple .. they told me I need to buy a new one. I would not call that a fix. This is a workaround, and it can easily be done via software on the nvram, no soldering needed. The real "fix" would be fixing the dedicated gpu, otherwise it's not that much usable.

what I did for this problem is to reflow the AMD GPU and use good thermal paste. also, clean the MacBook from time to time inside. the main problem is that the original thermal paste is not that good and dries up combine that with some dust blocking the exhaust and it will get this problem very fast. after my reflow, it's still working 2 years later

bjorn van de walle yes that’s what we all used to do, also your supposed to replace the tantalum capacitor that is on the other side of logic board which will work temporary until it fails again. This chip bypasses the GPU to work permanently.

I did a brute attack on AMD chip underneath it. in frustration i just used a screwdriver to take out all the SMD components. I did not take the main board out at all. And I just though I might put the battery on again started, and it booted up , but very slow in OSX but with Linux it works . In linux with lspci command it only shows intel gpu.

I got 2.5 years extra by cooking the logicboard in the oven, but the true fix was cutting two holes in the bottom chassis, below the impeller fans, and Voila!!! no more heat problems lol, for real.curren tly enjoying a MBP 2018

Supamodz Tech Apple told me l needed a part that costs $600 or buy a new computer. My computer just keeps restarting, and will only stay on in safe mode. I tried a step by step solution I saw on Macrumors that had me type in some commands to bypass the gpu. That’s the only way it will even start in safe mode.

@@kimj5457 Have you solved the problem? I just did mine (MacbookPro 17'' 2011 with a bad gpu). I used the dosdude guide and works great in High Sierra, except sleep and brightness control.

it worked as described in the guide, with the mention that I pulled out the SSD from my macbook pro and installed a fresh copy of High Sierra with another mac. I also made the latest updates before I put it back in the damaged MacBook Pro. After that I did the exact steps mentioned in the guide. The downside is that you don't have brightness control and if the mac goes to sleep, you will have to forced shutdown because it will not wake up from sleep when you press the keys or touch the trackpad as should normally do. The good part is that it boots fine every time and always using the intel graphic. I personally can live with these. Planning to use DosDude patch to upgrade to Mojave or Catalina. Have fun.

The answer is no. And the answer is dont repair. Just go in settings and disable the damn thing. No need to this fix and just sell it after, graphics are ok but annoying.

If you have GPU management program on your machine, you need to get rid of it. With terminal bypass, the GPU program will try to talk to it and you may run into the same problem again. Above is a hardware bypass. Once it's done, you do need to be aware of the temperature with your machine so it doesn't go too high to ruin solder connections elsewhere. Get a cooling pad.

it can be done with a magnifying glass to make sure joints are soldered if you have good eyes you will be fine.

Cool video. Question - youre saying that it disabled dedicated gpu (leaves only integrated gpu). What happens when you plug-in monitor into thunderbolt? I'm soft fix I did ignoring gpu from macos, when connecting thunderbolt display, monitor would just go dark and it require the restart to get it back alive. Would be curious to know if your solution works with thunderbolt display.

Thanks for the video! I fixed the problem via eliminating the amd gpu through single user mode; but now the performance of the screen is so terrible that I can't even open a browser properly. when I move the cursor it leaves marks through the path on the screen. Do you have any suggestion about this problem? Now I got my screen back but it is still unusable. Since the amd gpu is already bypassed; trying your hardware solution won't change much in my case, am I right?

Remember you are emulating the gpu its not turned off. This device turns it off completely and only uses the intel gpu by itself. In your case it won't hurt to try it you really have nothing to loose, i left the link in the description where you can buy them.

Yes it's will work but don't install the driver for the amd gpu, as soon as installing Windows, install the Intel gpu driver then disable the 2nd gpu (ATI Radeon) and don't install the driver

In these macs the video on external port is always driven by the AMD GPU. Hence it is impossible to have external video once the (AMD) GPU is dead.
