Glad I waited to get the M4 Pro instead of the M3. Extra ports, extra RAM and other features were a great deal. Space Black is a really interesting color. Lighting plays a big role and from a distance it adds extra privacy since it doesn't reflect Apple's typical shine. I love the color. The M4 Pro is the sweet spot in the M4 lineup. I was happy with Intel, but the M4 Pro adds everything extra, making tasks more convenient. I chose the M4 Pro because it’s the sweet spot, with 24GB of RAM and an upgraded CPU and GPU for video editing (as a hobby). Also, the M4 Pro chip, compared to the base model offers faster read/write speeds and better support for external drives, so you can expand your storage more conveniently

I’m just wondering why are you comparing M4 pro to M3 instead of M3 pro
@christederАй бұрын
@@Joker-fj8hg Oh, I meant the M3 lineup in general. When it came out, it seemed like a good idea to wait for the M4 lineup. I even considered waiting for the M5, but it looks like the bigger updates and changes will come with the M6. So, I decided to stop waiting and went with the M4 Pro
@Joker-fj8hgАй бұрын
@@christeder but M3 pro has the same numbers of port as M4 pro, and space black is also available on M3 pro
@christederАй бұрын
@@Joker-fj8hg True. As I remember, the M3 was rushed out as an early-stage 3nm chip. I was fine with my 2018 MPB and felt I could wait. I didn’t dive that deep into the M3 at the time, and I wasn’t happy with how the base and Pro models offered RAM, etc. (With the M4 lineup, they did better). I was used to having four Thunderbolt ports and connecting a HyperDrive to use all the other ports. Still, the ports are the same, and it's possible they’ll keep it that way for a while. Finding other ways and at the moment all good. But from what I understand, the M3 Pro is a great device especially with good discount deals. Here in the EU, I haven't seen many discounts on Apple devices, just small ones. At the end of the day, it depends on what you do with your MacBook. For office work and videos, the M1 will perform great, even Intel models. For more intensive workloads and video/photo editing, the Pro models are better, and so on. Usually, the prices for new models are fairly similar to the old ones, so there's no need to go for the older model. Every year they add some extra features, but do all people need them? Probably not. I believe most people can enjoy the base models to the fullest

If you plan to work on more complex tasks like heavy Fusion effects, multi-layer editing or RAW video workflows, then going with 32GB of RAM is a smart move for smoother performance and future-proofing. However, if video editing is more of a hobby or you mostly work on lighter tasks like basic 4K editing, trimming, and simple color grading, the 24GB option should be more than sufficient for your needs. That's why I took M4 pro 24gb. I do web development in general, a little Photoshop and Illustrator. I was good with an Intel 8GB setup, but I love the power of the M4 pro

@@maidenseddie1701 I was fine with my MBP 2018 with 8GB RAM. I did web development, some Photoshop and Illustrator work, watched videos, and handled general office tasks. For video editing, it wasn’t that great because newer programs require more RAM and take a lot longer to process. But it was manageable since I mostly just added simple fades and cuts to some clips. I used ffmpeg via command line when needed. I believe there will soon be an Air M4 or there are some great offers at the moment? If you’re considering the Air, I’d wait for the M4 version, it’s possibly coming between January and March. What do you use your computer for? Light tasks or do you need more power? For future-proofing I think the MacBook Pro is a great option, but it depends on your needs. For school and office work, the MacBook Air will do its job perfectly. If you’re planning to add photo or video editing then the Macbook pro M4 is a great choice. Personally I think the M4 Pro chip is the sweet spot. At the moment, I’m not fully utilizing its power (M4 pro chip) - I got it more for future-proofing so I can work with ease for years to come. Plus if I decide to dive deeper into video editing or other heavy tasks, I’ll have the flexibility to handle them. Better pricing in USA, here in EU it's little bit higher

Doing a 10 minute Cinebench multi-core CPU test WILL definitely heat up the maching and the fans will spin at either 50% or 95% depending on automatic or high power setting. At this point they are definitely audible but not annoyingly so, least not for me. However, there is not much I ever plan to do with the M4 Pro that will stress the CPU or GPU this much. I'm using the 24GB RAM version and can happily run a couple of VMs (one of which is Windows 11 ARM), containers (small-scale for training and testing), development, and cloud stuff (I work in IT). It's a fantastic computer.

More the better… but if you have to ask then you probably should be in 24GB camp. You should know how your machine behaves today and know the RAM required. I run LLM but I don’t need super large models so 24GB is just fine and I can run up to 11B model with ease but 32B would struggle but not many models I need are 32B. Most are 7-8B and ran fine on 16GB ram before my 24GB M4Pro

I was really hoping you would expand on the M4 Pro's performance in Fusion 360🙏 I am an engineer and for the first time I'm considering switching to Apple, due to Window's continuous lackluster performance off of the battery.

Super video, and incredible computers! I went down to the Apple Store last night and tried out a new M 4 MacBook Pro, I have the M1 pro. I just tested a couple of applications to see how fast they came up. every single application comes up, just a wink shy of instantaneously. But I started thinking… My M1 pro travels at about 80 miles an hour and the new M 4s travel at about 130 miles an hour, but I'm not sure I need to go that fast.

New subscriber here This has been the most helpful video I have watched on MacBook Pro M4 Pros, as a non Apple user it has been confusing on what to buy and where I should upgrade and where I should save. I do video editing and 4k podcasts etc. My windows machine has 64gb ram, I know apple uses the memory differently, is the 24GB enough or is a ram upgrade to 48 Ram worth the money?
@KyleErickson13 күн бұрын
if you're just doing lighter edit or projects, I think 24 is fine, but if you're super worried about it, having the peace of mind might be worth the extra cost. That said, I've edited these videos on the M2 machines with 8GB of RAM before, so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about it, haha.

I have a couple comments: 1) tb4 should be plenty fast for any external ssd 2) if you don’t know whether you need the extra cpu or gpu cores - you almost certainly do not - the applications that take advantage of gpu acceleration and parallel processing are very specific and people whose livelihoods depend on them already know the answer. If you are just a hobbyist or amateur these issues are far less impactful. 3) the m4 pro and m4 do have some differences in terms of external display capability which may matter to some people - m4 pro has a bit more “bandwidth” in outputting to more and higher refresh rate monitors. 4) probably the most important thing to me - as an amateur/hobbyist - but still technical minded - is the amount of ram. While 16gb is certainly a good amount today for my relatively simple needs today (photo editing - without shutting everything else down) - I do like to think a few years out. So I like to always go one step up - which makes me want to get 24gb just so that I the machine will still be good to go in the future. I’m not worried about the gpu or cpu.
@maidenseddie170128 күн бұрын
I'm in the same boat as you. Don't need to do technical work to earn a living but I'm ramping up a side gig which requires multitasking and keeping several web apps open. I won't need more than the out of box CPU/GPU but I'm sure I need them RAM. I want to get the 24GB too and noticed some folks in the comments recommending the 48GB for future-proofing and that's got me thinking because my plan is to keep this machine running well for 7-8 years.
@TubeYouDSilvy27 күн бұрын
@@maidenseddie1701 So I actually ended up pulling the trigger - found a Black Friday sale - $250 off of the M4 pro version - 16 gpu cores with 24gb ram - for $1,750 total. So I went with that. According to the resource monitor - when using Lightroom, surfing the web, listening to music, and messaging - so a decent set of the things I would be doing all at once generally - it said I was using 13gb ram - and was running nice and snappy. If I had 16gb ram - I probably would NOT notice a difference … today. HOWEVER - I do think over the next few years it’s likely I would start bumping into the resource ceiling - so I’m glad I got 24gb. Once you start going well above “the next” level of resources you need for “future proofing” - you have to decide whether that really makes sense. Going up to 36 or 48gb adds a lot more expense - and even if it lets you keep your device - theoretically - for 3 or 4 more years - at some point - you might simply be better applying that money towards a new lower end device 4 years from now with the money you would have spent. A base model m4 is pretty good compared to the high end m1s in some applications So since you don’t know exactly what you’ll be using it for in 5-8 years - my advice is generally - go one step up in ram beyond what you need - but don’t overbuy too much - because the technology definitely gets better - and it’s nice to be able to buy it when it does.

Hey, I'm thinking about buying MBP M4 pro 14", and want to futureproof, so I initially thought about buying 14cpu version with 48gb ram and 1tb disk space, but I've seen people saying that this procesor really heats up in the 14" model so I'm worried now. Should I get 12cpu version instead with all the upgrades? Any thoughts??

I haven't looked at one yet, but that might be something I have time for next year! Right now I wouldn't recommend the studio display, but there's a lot of great options, it really boils down to what your price range is. I would just make sure whatever you get is factory calibrated to make sure your colors are solid, but from there, it's super hard to recommend anything, as there are so many factors!

I'm getting ready to upgrade to this machine--MBP M4 Pro--from my old reliable 2015 15" MBP. I'm expecting to see quantum leaps in performance from that old Intel dinosaur. My primary uses would be Photoshop and Lightroom. My current machine's battery has swollen and warped the case. Also, has reached the end of its OS upgrades with Monterey. Also, same thing with my Adobe software: Lightroom and Lightroom Classic current versions are incompatible with my old machine, and Photoshop gives me a message telling me that their new versions may not work well with my current machine. So I guess it's time

They all increase so fast, that getting expensive M4 Pro or M4 Max is not financially appropriate. I mean soon they will announce M5 and then M6 in 2 years, and your M4 Max will be weaker. Unless you are making money with it, it is just burning money.
