I subscribe and send a few bucks each month to this channel for several reasons. Alex' reviews are the most informative and most carefully nuanced to differentiate facts from his opinions I've found on the web. Videos like this are another reason. An entire video devoted to swapping out wheels and tires with all the process entails. Who does such a thing??? No one I know of. And who can make it a compelling enough presentation to hold my attention for twelve and a half minutes. Again, nobody. Thanks, Alex.

I am a big fan, Alex. Your videos are the most clear, concise and complete on KZbin IMHO. In this case though, I think you have presented a solution in search of a problem. Unless the problem is too much range, or that the tires squeal if you come out of a turn too quickly. If it’s the latter, there is a much better solution then spending $2000. Like the Doctor’s solution to the patient who complains that it hurts when he windmills his arm over his head: “If it hurts when you do that, don’t do that “. Keep up the great videos.

Alex, the number 225 (9:05) does not refer to the tread width; this number refers to the width of the carcass, or bodym or as Tire Rack says: the section width. Tread width is almost always less than the section width. However, a larger section width ofen (not always) makes for a wider tread width.

Interesting to see that the difference is so small in your case. On my Bolt, the difference was much more noticeable. About 10%. That was going from the stock 215-50-17 Michelin Energy Saver AS to a 225-45-17 Michelin Pilot Sport AS4. The difference in grip is absolutely worth it though. The stock tires spin when stabbing the throttle from a 20mph roll on dry pavement. The Pilot AS4s just grip and grip, totally transforms the car.

I have been wavering on buying a Mach-E Premium or ponying up (sorry) for a GT. So, I keep going to Ford’s site and configuring them. For the first time, today I noticed that Ford is offering a summer tire option for $250. However, it seems to be the same size tire as standard. I guess they heard the voice of the consumer, which is encouraging. It is only available on the Premium ER eAWD model.

3 questions Alex: 1. Will our 28” tall 76lb dog fit in the back of a Mach-e with the rear seats up? 2. Is the Mach-e capable of bidirectional charging? If yes, would using it that way void the warranty? 3. Is it as quiet and comfortable as our Ford Edge?

My car that I bought new back in 2012 came with 175mm width tires on 15" rims. My parents camry that they bought a year later had 205mm with 16" rims. Range tests on electric cars IMHO should be more accurate then range tests on gas vehicles. Now of course there's hybrids and cars with start stop but I'm talking about standard gas vehicles. Because, you driving into an intersection, you could be waiting 5 minutes or you could not wait at all. With an electric vehicle, at least you aren't running a motor while sitting at the light. I haven't owned a car with start stop, I would probably turn it off, and turn it back on when I know I'll be waiting at least two minutes. It would have been interesting to use a lighter wheel those things look insanely heavy.

I've upgraded my planned Mach-E order from a Premium to a GT (though not the performance spec; I'd love the adaptive suspension but have no interest in summer tires or the narrower racing seats, and Ford requires the panoramic sunroof on the Performance Edition to get the BlueCruise capabilities. I'm happier to delete the sunroof and add some seat comfort.). I'm a little concerned that the smaller sidewall will make the ride too uncomfortable for my family, but hopefully that won't be too bad a compromise. If everyone had a brand new electric car, overall emissions would go up but eventually level off and start to improve. If everyone drove a used gas car, emissions would only get worse with no chance for a turnaround in the future.
