Great video showcasing these new batteries chaps! I’ve had a Milwaukee 9” cut off saw for about 6 months. Bought to replace an AC 9” angle grinder. I use it most days on various masonry/concrete tasks. Originally running two 8.0a HO batteries. I was fairly underwhelmed by its performance due to the batteries overheating quickly under continuous load, I certainly wouldn’t bother cutting a line in concrete but fine for blocks and slabs. When the 12a forge landed I thought it might be a better way to go with the cooling technology on the batteries and new super charger. Bit of a pill to swallow the price but there’s an absolute night and day difference. These new batteries really do unlock a lot more potential from high draw tools. The cut off saw now performs as well as an AC equivalent. The 2 batteries will easily cut 4 meters of 3” concrete no problem. For DIYers or occasional use the price jump from HO to forge probably isn’t worth it. But for self employed professionals who need performance tools to work hard, these batteries are really worth every penny.

You should know: the Milwaukee batteries (not Forge, but whatever came before - and maybe Forge fixes this well known issue) will not take a charge and require an involved fix that's beyond what most consumers are prepared to so own their own. I'll not detail the problem as the internet has an extensive records of the problem where users must open the batteries and charge, or balance, the internals so that they will take a charge. This kind of error is unacceptable, or course, and regardless of how well the tool works if the battery gives this much trouble it's wise to avoid Milwaukee entirely. Their customer service tells me I can print free shipping returns labels via their website, as long as the battery is within warranty (I think this was one or two years). There needs to be more focus on how well these batteries hold up, because replacing them is very expensive.
@garyradtke3252Ай бұрын
It would be helpful to know the remainder of the battery capacities after the test run. I might assume the Forge would have more left because it gets through the work faster but that might not be true.

Forge has more power and punch but you don't always need that...for example 12a battery should have more Wh to spare and that's good with lights and lawnmowers...
@MachineryNationАй бұрын
Interesting point. Yeah you don’t always need the power, for those who do it shows that they are more capable I guess.

@user-ld6wo4rv8hАй бұрын
Your first test was severely flawed. The expected order of performance should be 1. Forge 8.0 Ah 2. Forge 6.0 Ah or 12 Ah HO (difference not significant) 3. 8.0Ah HO. This can easily be predicted just from knowledge of which cells are inside and their max amp output. At that point, it becomes a matter of what the tools can draw. Anyways, you can see that the 12Ah got caught twice during its run. The Forge 6.0Ah got stuck twice. The 8Ah HO had a clean run. Effectively, all would have done the test in about 9 seconds if they had a clean run. The circuitry of that particular tool likely limits the current intake from those 3 batteries such that they all essentially perform the same. The Forge 8.0 would be the one exception where the tool can draw more from it due to the cooler running.

Currently have 8.o high output batteries for my Milwaukee brushcutter. Runtime is about 20mins, would like that to be a bit longer, what would you recommend?
@merkn247Ай бұрын
12.0 HO or forger they will both have more runtime than your 8. Hd has a buy 12.0 amp forge get 8.0 forge free
@hakz1nunkeАй бұрын
The AH rating for a battery will tell you it's run time. The only way up from an 8.0 is to a 12.0, but I'd go with the Forge as they are the same price as the high output, and the old HO 12.0 is known to drop cells and not give a complete charge after a while. Like merkin247 said, I also just ordered a 12.0 Fordge from HD and they are giving away an 8.0 forge free with it. Great deal.
