I find that Makie's CR3 and CR4 were already very muddy and not clear in the midrange. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I feel like it's more bad on newer versions ... do you think too ?

at home i have my HS7 ... RP5 G3 ... Eris 4.5 ..... and my favorite still always my little Eris 4.5 :) you can sound "magic" with them.

@@vikplevnes736 i have tried both at home and no doubt ... eris 4.5 is way better than 3.5 .... when i tried the 3.5 its like i hear only bass and trebles .... on 4.5 I hear bass, beautiful mids, and trebles ;o)

Use your headphones. The CR4-X is WAY closer to the source track in nearly every frequency range. I know what I'm going with for a secondary small pair.

Listening through my beyerdynamics dt770 headphones, moving from the source file to the mackies is almost imperceptible. The low end sounds beefy, but so does the song. The presonus are cleaner I'd say from the 500-2000 range, but then get very tinny in the high range. The mackies seem to lose a bit of clarity in the midrange, which would likely need to be compensated for to make it truly more neutral. But I would rather work on the mackies and make some slight adjustment there. Although I would like to hear the presonus with adjustments to see if that makes a difference.

Replying to myself haha, I would say the presonus are a better investment at equal price because of their onboard EQ. Adjusting the highs down just a notch and the lows up just a notch would likely compensate for what I am hearing as a difference from the source material. The mackies, it simply is what it is. And this is from someone who worked on hr624 and 824 for a long time and loved them. Mackie just missed the boat on this one I think by not including eq.

​@@paulrenaud2388yes, you can EQ both, but you can't add details, which Mackie filters out, so the sound image of e4.5 is more neutral and better for Studio/mixing, whereas Mackie might seem more natural for an ear.

Crossover in the mackie sounds better. But air is seriously lacking. Woolier too. Overall I like Presonus better in this shootout. Both speakers are compromised in some area.

The Mackie has that old wood box speaker feel, will be my pick for music listening. Presonus better for production.

I am using presonus eris E5 but i don't love it sound... Too much crisps and harrass for me.... I try to shift with mackie cr4x bt...

Thanks a lot for these videos! I was wondering if you think the Eris E4.5 or E5 is better suited for suboptimal listening environment (untreated bedroom) with monitors close to the wall? Or maybe the iLoud micros? Main purpose is mixing, although I'll mainly use Sennheiser HD650 and monitors for comparison.

As ever, the Eris 4.5 has a clear, balanced, detailed sound, whilst the Mackie suffers from an overwhelming, intrusive, woolly bass and indistinct upper register.
