The Mackie EM-99B is quite possibly the best sounding microphone straight out of the box for spoken word. I have struggled to get my RE20 and SM7B to sound good. It can absolutely be done, but requires advanced audio skills which, here on the Randumb Tech channel, we simply don't posses. With this microphone, there is very little tweaking necessary in post to get it sounding great - at least to my ears. Let me know what you think in the comments!
I got mine at Microcenter and you can too: www.microcenter.com/product/6...

Sounds pretty good to me; especially considering the price

I agree - straight out of the box is sounds pretty good. I've goofed around with a mild EQ / light compression and it sounds even better! I might do a blind comparison with some of the other mics I have to see which one people prefer based on sound alone. Thx for sharing your thoughts!

I have an audio only podcast and use primarily my RE20 and RE27....BUT....my secret reserve mic and secret love is my Mackie EM99B. I have actually used it on a few episodes and also use it for work zoom meetings. It never lets me down and requires very little post EQ which is another big plus. I almost sold it twice after I first bought it a long while ago...but something always made me yearn for it again and again. Now it has a permanent spot on my desk. It may end up being the lead mic in the future. It is soooooo underrated in my opinion.

My RE20 is currently collecting dust 😆 The Mackie is just super easy to use and sounds great with just a few tweaks.

That sounds like and AWESOME setup! My first audio interface was a Mackie 6-channel mixer and I absolutely loved it. Mackie makes great stuff at a reasonable price. Be sure to come back and leave another comment with a link to your YT video once you are up and running - I'm sure there are lots of folks who would want to hear the mic on a different voice.

I've been tempted by this mic for months. Was just browsing around recently, and found that the price on Amazon had dropped to $105, which made pulling the trigger quite easy. Going to record myself on my next podcast with this mic and decide whether to keep it or not.

For the money, it's an AWESOME mic! Needs very little EQ to get it sounding great. I've reverted back to my RE20 only because it does sound a bit better (as it should for the much higher cost!)

@@RandumbTechThanks for your reply. I picked up the Mackie around the same time as the Podmic USB. And while I like them both, I slightly prefer the Mackie. Given that it comes with the best desk stand ever I'm going to return the Røde and keep the Mackie.

I think the build qualiry is as good as the EV. I also like the windscreen which doesn’t roll off highs but eliminates plosives

The Mackie has decent build quality, but the EV is still better. The rotating arm that the mic is attached to is cheap metal. I still love the sound of it though and for $150 I don't think there is a better option out there.

To me sounds really good with nice clarity and bass. However, looks too chunky and stubby. And despite its color has a bit too much presence. Thanks for the video.

I think it sounds great too! It's a bit bigger than an SM7B, but not by much. Personally, I don't mind the size, but if you are looking for something a bit more discreet, I would not choose this mic.
