I still like my jumps. They have their place, and the water line is one of them. Great video

Great video as always, highlight of the day when a new one comes out. As a newer trapper I had beaver going around my 330. I thought screw it, I left the 330 where it was and I put footholds on sliders on the side, using the 330 as a blocker that can catch. Caught one with the trap to the left and one with the trap to the right when water levels changed. Can't wait for next season.

The #4 jump trap was my go to in the early 1970s but I used Victor brand. I caught and held a lot of big ones and not all were caught in drowning sets. Many younger trappers don't give old school traps and methods their due respect. Glad to see you do. Good vid.

Awesome seeing the ole school Blake & Lamb in use. Used a couple of those rat trapping years back. Awkward buggers to set with a single spring lever

Enjoyed seeing a catch with the ole jump trap! I have been threatening for years to break one out and snag a coyote or bobcat with one. I believe, Lord willing, I will do it next winter! Thanks for the inspiration! A buddy back in high school went on a date with a girl and boys being boys, we all asked if he got a kiss. He replied yes but she kissed like a #2 jump trap! I'll never forget that, we laughed our butts off! Thanks for making great vids!

Just so cool to watch your videos and see how you explain why you set things. I don't trap beaver -- don't have any places here to do it -- but I love watching you & Trapper J's videos.

I still use these traps to this day. Being in Canada, t 5:39 5:39 he only time I can use the "Old school" traps with no offset jaw is for drown sets. The jump, coil and long spring traps have produced many furs for me over the years. The broken leg is the set back on these setups however, with no rubber jaw or slight offset it is a hard hit when snapped. You must try for the front foot catch so you can't drown the beaver quick. Still hard to beat old technology.

Yeah my old victor traps so strong still they did the same thing. Almost lost mine as well. Slaying them brother.👊💀👍🍻🇺🇲🍻

That is the major problem with jawed LEG HOLD traps for beaver and Muskrat. Their Leg bones are so brittle they break so easily, allowing the animal if not drowned to RING OFF EASILY..
@330Maniac3 жыл бұрын
Yes but if you run the right equipment like a drowning rod you will almost never have that issue
@jttraina45163 жыл бұрын
@@330Maniac True ,the way I used leg hold traps was on Raft sets. We only started to have an abundance of beavers here in NJ in the past 20 years. I trapped extensively in the late 70's until the bottom dropped out if the market. Mostly Racoon, Rats and Fox. Loved it and really miss the excitement of running the line in the early morning anticipating what I may have caught. People who don't trap will never understand how you can actually develop a relationship with a HARD to catch individual animal. Anyway LOVE YOUR POSTS ,keep them up and stay healthy.

@@jttraina4516 I just fight with such extremely HARD to catch beavers in my pond, with no avail so far. They constantly avoid conibears and snares, even these ones set deep underwater. Recently I caught one chewed stick in 330 and one in a snare. I've bought 3 footholds and will try drowning sets.

Would a couple of extra swivels help with the old Blake and Lamb? Seems like it would not twist as bad. Love Old Traps. Thanks for sharing

Most of my traps are Blake&Lamb. I have 1 1/2, and 2`s in jumps, #2, #3 in double Long springs, and the cream of the crop... a dozen #44`s double long spring. I even have #600 Montgomery body grip traps with the " Canadian Bend ". also a lot of other old traps. That gives you some idea just how old I am. I do have #5 Bridger`s in double long spring, and four coil, lots of Sleepy Creek in #11, #2, #3, and #4 1/2 double long spring, and several dozen different sizes of Belisle body grips. I am not able to get around any more, and they are just sitting in my shed.

THE best antidote is a soap called Earth Soap from Buck Stix. It will absolutely neutralize skunk scent.
