Really seems Macrons snap election gamble has failed. And I don’t mean because of the prime minister issue, he’s essentially destroyed his own party. If you go to politico polling you can see that since July the National Rally has gained around 10 points and a various left wing parties have gained around 4 percent. The only major loser is ensemble with a 5 point loss.
@krashme9975 күн бұрын

@@krashme997 To be precise, it seems while establishment parties are loosing and left wing parties are gaining, the true winners are the right. Just look at Austria with the FPO, or reform in Britain, or whatever is happening in Romania. But people also don't seem to appreciate that the centrists are more willing to work with the left then with the right. Personally I believe this is due to a matter of origin of their philosophy. I.e. socialists, communists, and classical liberals are more different in approach then goals, all sharing a Enlightenment philosophy origin. Just look at in France where even the communists and the center-right worked together. This means that right wing governments have to win a lot more to actually get in power. I like how Macron's approach to fixing the issue is by making the same mistake again and refusing to let the democratic will of the people decide the government and instead just once again appointing one of his buddies. Macron really is letting French democracy die, with the risk of a fascist takeover just because he refuses to acknowledge that his party lost the election and that the left wing coalition got the most seats.

First of all RN is the biggest party in France, calling it Fascist is insulting not only to them but to the 10.6 million French men and women who voted for them. Second, the Left wing coalition didn't win, they had no majority, no one has a majority, thus no one won. The Left is far from United, the multiple parties in their coalition all hate each other, and LFI is hated by all other parties, the left would have a chance if they got rid of them. There are no Fascist parties in France, calling the far Right Fascist is simply bigotry. Both the far Right and far Left would be catastrophic for the economy. Macron is not letting Democracy die, or risking 'fascists takeover, if the far Right is elected it's not a evil Fascist takeover, it's just Democracy, the people want a right wing government, be it far Right, or Center right, the RN, Macron's party Renaissance, Les Républicains, MoDem and Horizon are all right wing parties to diferent levels. The Left wing coalition is a minority if you only consider the Left right axis. The French people are a majority right wing. Thus Macron should not pick a left wing PM, it's as easy as that.

I don't know why countries are concerned about lowering birth rates. Most nations face resource shortages of one kind or another, and environmental damage resulting from those shortages. Housing, arable land, good jobs, food, water, and so on, all problems brought on by too many people needing too few resources. We deplete the water table for our crops and destroy natural habitats so we can develop them. Fewer people mean there's more room for humans and wildlife. It's not like there's a shortage of people.

Falling birth rates lead to an inverted population pyramid. That is, fewer working age people to support a continually increasing elderly population. More of the young's efforts will need to be dedicated to caring for the old, as well as paying additional taxes to pay for it, assuming that old age benefits aren't lowered (you've seen how *that* suggestion went down when France tried to raise the retirement age). On top of that, it seems increasingly likely that the current generation entering the workforce won't receive the same old age benefits enjoyed by those currently in or entering retirement. People drive the economy. Less people means less output, and therefore less resources to care for the people that already exist.
