The movie was actually set in the 1990s when filming before 9/11 happened and was to be a set-up for Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. It was then changed in post production to 2003 (after 9/11) to be a set up for Tom Holland's Spider-Man

My favorite part being when he gets into the diner and just jumps on a table and sucker punches a dude, for no reason, and continues menacingly walking towards them. Cause he's the bad guy. Last but not least, for no reason, the taxi has more character development then any other character in the movie
