Mannnnn did Donny Cates make Thor so powerful in this run. It was so much fun. And I wish we got to see the FULL vision Donny was building with his writing on all his titles. Awesome review bro. Nah, instead of making Thor powerful he had to tear down and destroy the canon of established characters. There is a difference This same version of Thor went on to have even fights with the Hulk, almost got KO’s by some aliens with a rock and almost drowned in a puddle a la David Dunn in Glass

@@aaronharvey5625 That coma stuff is crap. It happened after all of the stuff with Thor and Hulk. He has a drug problem and his wife left him, he just used the accident which happened later as an excuse for not doing his work and skipping conventions constantly. The current rumor is that he's blackballed from the industry. Apparently, he did something really bad behind the scenes which we'll probably never know about ala Beau Demayo of X-Men 97. Marvel is literally paying him to not work, they're just waiting for his exclusive to run out so they can throw him out the door, and it doesn't look like anyone else is clamoring for him.

Also going to go out on a limb and say that when you’re blackballed from the industry they’re not going to choose to continue making new omnibuses of your work, especially your “less than stellar” work that could easily be forgotten and no one really would miss. Also, he was literally listed in the thanks for ultimate invasion. So are you saying this big “black ball” worthy thing he did was in the last 8 months?

@@aaronharvey5625 I stated that the blackballed thing is the latest rumor, but I personally think it's true. The drugs and divorce have been confirmed by people and if you actually talk to some of the people that run comic book channels that actually have connections to the industry, they will tell you if you ask them (and I'm not talking about hack channels like EVS, Eric July or john Del Arroz). Also, he was thanked in Ultimate Invasion because he was originally supposed to write it but went MIA at that very same time. He probably gave Hickman a basic outline of what was supposed to be hence the thank you. Being blackballed also has nothing to do with Omnibus printings as people like Chuck Dixon and EVS will still get their work reprinted. You really don't think it's weird how he just disappeared, and no one will talk about it or how the accident happened after all of this went down yet is still somehow the reason for everything? Or how Marvel is paying him but not giving him any projects, or how his plans for Thanos wielding Thors hammer with the infinity stones or how his plans for the ultimate universe just crumbled and is now being ignored or undone? He also randomly reappeared on Twitter for like 2 seconds to bash that comic bookstore owner with the horrible hammer analogy before disappearing again. No one has heard from him since. Stegman also goes completely rigid whenever asked about him Something stinks here and Cates himself has written about his drug use. Hell, just read Vanish, the main character is clearly cates and he's a mess.

When Cates' run first started out, I enjoyed it, even though it annoyed me that he killed off Galactus. That said, I was still invested. And when I saw Thanos with the Marvel Zombies, I was like, okay - there's a crossover event, right there. The entire Marvel superheroes could try to tackle that and probably fail. And then... this. I think Cates has had some personal issues, so I hope he's okay. But Marvel crapped on Hickman's X-books, so it should surprise no one that they crapped on Cates' Thor run. They cannot be trusted with good ideas - they don't even care about good ideas, really. It's a shame.

Hope u are starting to feel a little better now. I worry bout my Maddogg ha ha.😄 If u didn't know Maddogg, Cates had a serious car accident where his face literally went into a laptop. He now has severe memory loss and had to learn to do basic functions all over again. I feel really bad for him. Hopefully he comes back one day.😕

Donny Cates' Thor to me is one of the runs on Thor to date. From the Black Winter arc, the God of Hammers Arc, Banner of War, all the way to the arc where Thor prevents a vision of Thanos wielding an infinity Mjolnir. I love the Thor comics, but I need to read the Thor Epic Collections, J. Michael Strazynski's run, and Jason Aaron's run.

I have been reading thor since the first journey into mistery started years ago but now im at the Dan Jurgens run Thor heroes return. In my opinion in comic you need to read the whole run of a character to judge wich one is the best. A lot of people recommended run for batman, thor, etc that i really didn’t like. For example thor from Walter S is really bad. For many reasons. The first being its the first time thor suffer back to back sour defeats. Making your hero you been reading for 20 plus years fealli g helpless and beaten. Wow what a great run right the one you need to read if you like the hero. Fuck no its the one that should get red con and ban from the timeline. I know donny cates made sure to avenge those defeat and made thor destroy Beta Ray Bill once and for all. Everything seams super nice with thor becoming the most powerful being in the universe at some point with his new power. I don’t know why people say it’s bad but im there yet i got 20 plus years to catch up on my hero. Honnestly don’t make your opinion on what to read with online comments. You got to read the full run to know what was the best era.
